Thanx for the links. We will be in Negril the week of Aug 19. So if you’re planning from 8/20- 8/23 let me know. We’ll be staying on the beach first 5 nights. Then up at Catcha last 3. :)
Can you put me and hubby down as a maybe? We arrive the 20th/leaving the 26th..we are signed up for the One Love crawl on Aug 22...sounds like a good time!
Andrea34,
If you have never done the One Love Pub Crawl, I highly recommend it! It is a great way to see the West End of Negril, especially for first timers and those who spend their time in Negril on our beautiful beach!
The Pub Crawl "The Other Way" is notably different than the One Love Pub Crawl as it takes our visitors on a tour of bars going out of Negril toward Little London. It is not exactly what you would call "off the beaten path" because it is still a main access way to Negril from the eastern areas of the island. But most visitors will never stop at the bars on this pub crawl, they are mainly local hangouts for the immediate neighborhoods.
It looks like we have enough for the Pub Crawl the Other Way that week, what date seems to be the best for everyone?
We are flexible about the dates.
What are the cost, besides the drinks?
What currency do they prefer in the pubs, Jamaican dollar or US dollar?
If we can arrange 8 or more, there would be no cost, just tip the driver! Less than 8 will depend on the number interested.
The currency is not a big issue, J$ are the norm at these bars, but they will accept US$.
We did the one Love crawl back in 2015, which was our first trip to Negril..we loved it!! We were staying on bloody bay at the riu that trip..the one Love trip had a lot to do with us falling in love with Jamaica and deciding to Try the non all inclusive hotels..we are now hooked and have returned to Negril every year since😀. We are looking forward to seeing Lenbert again❤️
Since this is such a short trip for us I’m hesitant to commit this crawl..sand gravity might win out, lol. Pick a day that works for everyone else and we will see how it goes once we get there👍🏻
This "other way" crawl is ideal for those new visitors with an adventurous spirit and returning visitors who have already done most of the typical activities in Negril.
Don't let sand gravity win on this one!!!
I will try hard to fight the sand gravity
This trip sounds so great, and I would absolutely LOVE to meet Rob and other members of this board❤️❤️I’m just such a beach girl..and we just moved to southwest Florida in May and are trying to escape a terrible red tide...so the beach girl in me is afraid to give up any precious time at the amazing beach
Is the date decided?
Let's try the 21st! Who wants to join us?
We are in for the 21st. Ever72 and husband.
We, Jack&Ireen, are in for the 21st of August.
Abandon it! We meet starting at noon at Wavz, get aquainted, then hit the road around 1pm. Worse comes to worse I can set my phone up as a hot spot... On second thought, no, ABANDON IT! And have some fun!
Hi all,
Is the pub crawl on for 21 August?
I don't see a lot off reactions.
Yes it is on! We have 4 and possibly 6, so that equals the turnout for the last one! We are meeting at Wavz on the 21st at noon then heading out at 1pm - we have you down and looking forward to meeting you!
See you there!
Nice, looking forward to meet you all.
Rob, is this going to become a monthly event? We are already booked with Lanbert for September but next year if you have something going the other way maybe we could go.
We can't play hooky from work on Tuesday, today has been a real Monday already. Maybe we can make it next month!
Rob,
It would be great to make it a weekly event. We will be there Feb 6-16 2019. I will be looking to join in then. I first went when Lenbert started his adventure and loved it. Not saying it isn't good now, just enjoyed it better with a less crowded bus. Love going to the out of the way spots and also helping out the local economy.
This afternoon, do you take your swimwear with you or on you?
For a quick dip in the sea?
Or do we refresh only with drinks?
We are heading "the other way" which is towards Sav/Little London. That is an inland route, so we really wont be near the sea. There will be places that you can stroll in neighborhoods, but no sea access except at the beginning and end of the pub crawl when we are at Wavz!
Thanks, clear
Rob, we did sent you a PM
My recommended "to bring" list based on my personal experience:
-small day pack or tote
-water bottle
-small cash bills in JA (though I do believe I was able to use US at all of the bars- small bills are always best so the bar tender doesn't have to worry about making change IMO)
-small roll of toilet paper or wipes
-bug spray or wipes
-beer coozies and/or 8-12 oz insulated cup/mug with reusable straw (-plastic cup sized so you don't have to mess with the plastic waste)
-camera
-tip money for the driver
-cash for a snack and beverage at Dru's @ WAVZ
it doesn't hurt to brush up on your domino skills, either!
Just some things I've been glad to have handy on my trips "the other way"
I think this "other way" is a good way for people to get out of Negril and get a sense of of what Jamaica is like when you aren't surrounded by tourists.
You don't need to wait for a bus to take you out somewhere if you want you can just go out on your own.
Big Up to Lenbert for providing a comfortable way for tourists to sample local culture.
Respect.
Acc,
This crawl is not part of Lemberts One Love Pub Crawl... We had the first one as part of our Boardie Bash this year!
Rob and Lisa were the hosts for this crawl, at least the inaugural one. And I'm sorry I can't remember the gentleman's name who drove us around.
Lenbert is now running two busses in the Cliffs/West End area, including his very own bar at his home! Actually, I think it's his wife's bar!
Thanks for the clarification. I was "Big Up"ing Lenbert for getting the idea rolling even if he isn't part of this. I did the Pub Crawl and liked it alright. I do prefer to just go with a friend to one or two bars and stay as long as I want. That being said, I know some people like the security and company that a group tour provides.
vive la difference
Rob and Lenbert started the One Love Pub Crawl in the West End in 2011 with the three of us riding the bus along with one other couple...it has obviously grown from there...enough for two buses now!
Rob, Lenbert and I spent a couple of years working out the "bugs" and Lenbert now runs a successful business.
Just as he had done for Lenbert, Rob is now working on a new pub crawl going "the other way" as an option for those that have been through the West End many times and would like to see something different. Most of these bars don't see many tourists and are excited and appreciative of the people they meet and the extra business the pub crawl will bring.
This new pub crawl is being tweeked just like the One Love Pub Crawl was detailed. We have received great reviews so far and look forward to this becoming another regular event!
And, LivinInThe603...I'll work on the TP issue...lol!
