Here’s one for you Boardies
Coming back to Negril, after an 11year absence, with my 12 year old son. Used to be a February regular and will be returning this February for a fam/friend-ly reunion and to get a boost of much needed Negril vibe! Home base is beach road in the Time Square area although we definitely venture to the West End. Thought it would be fun to start a thread about changes that have taken place since my last visit. New things we shouldn’t miss, old things we will miss, and familiar things that remain. How ‘bout it?
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
So many things here have changed...quite a few haven't.
A few new ones to you...
Restaurants with bars - Catch a Falling Star, Woodstock, Canoe, Island Lux Beach Park, Kool Vybes, Swordfish.
Bars (with food avail or nearby) - Bar Negril, Drifters, Natural Mystic, Sunnyside
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Things I miss: evening dining on the beach at Pete's, live music at De Bus, and cheap camping at Roots.

Hey Cap,
That would be great. We will have plenty to talk about. I look forward to some cold Red Stripes and some Appleton to help with the reasoning.

Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Fitzy, I took seven years off and returned in 2015. Previous trip had been November 2008. These were some of the changes I noticed. Selina's on the Beach road is gone, but Roy was still making the best pancakes on the beach. The Pirate's Cave and it's Sunday night pig roast are gone and it is now the Push cart Restaurant. Seastar Inn had some nice improvements and the Saturday night entertainment and food was excellent!
I can't tell you how wonderful it was to get back to Negril and walk the beach and float in the sea! Life has been too busy to get back, but it is still on the horizon!
Enjoy,
VVHT

I had forgotten the dinners on the beach at Pete’s. Thank you for bringing that memory back. I agree the live music at De Bus was great!

Thanks Bnewb! I’ve heard a lot about Drifters and will definitely check it out. It’s at One Mile, am I correct?
I saw someone else mention Island Lux Beach Park. What’s the scoop on this place? Is it a place for a 12 year old?

Thanks VVHT, I really am looking forward to the our return. Negril has always been a special place for me. Selina’s not being there will be a big change for me. That was my morning go to for many years. Blue Mountain coffee and Rum Cream. Yum! Met a lot of great people there over the years.
The beach, the sea, the music, the food, the people......the change is gonna do me good☺️
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
It's been 5 years for me, since it's along the same line, can someone chime in on the sidewalk? Does it run the full length of the road?
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Biggest change (IMHO); Bar B Barn and the great Angela's is closed.

You're correct...Drifters is located at One Mile.
Island Lux Park is perfect for a 12yr old...great restaurant, ice cream shop, water "toys"...

Jajodi...the sidewalk runs from the roundabout to (almost) Couples Swept Away.
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Sidewalk??? Wow! Better not tell my son or he'll be figuring out a way to fit his skateboard in his suitcase.

You are right Irie John. That is a BIG change. What is in the space now? Does anyone know why it closed?
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Hey Fitzy. Was just reported today , BBBarn has re-opened. I'm going to go down to the beach, in the next couple days, and check it myself.
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
Irie John, please update with what you find out. Fingers crossed

Thanks Bnewb! Did some searching on Island Lux and it definitely looks worth checking out but Injust can’t figure out in my mind where it is. Could you help me out please?
Re: Here’s one for you Boardies
There is a side walk, and it's really nice. But also street lights which detract from the "sleepy little town" vibe, but the crotch rockets were getting out of hand and things needed to be slowed down so I get it. Great big AI where Grand Lido used to be. You risk being fined if you take a taxi that doesn't have a red plate, so that's a big no no there now. There is still so much of "Negril" there that the vibe is still pretty much the same, and of course the calm easy way of life is unmatched anywhere we have ever been. You will fall back in love in no time.

If you've been coming to Negril for a long time...it's located on the old Mahogany Inn property at the border of Hanover & Westmoreland.
The property next door used to be Poinciana, then Beaches and currently Azul Sensatori.

Ahhh! Thanks Bnewb. My mind didn't travel out far enough.
