State of emergency ? Friends in jail ?
Restaurants closing at 8 due to a state of emergency which we are told will be on until dream weekend starts we also have a friend who we know has been in trouble in the past taken out of his bed and now in Negril jail. It seems they are just rounding up people who could be trouble and keeping in jail anyone know what’s going on ?
Re: State of emergency ? Friends in jail ?
Spanky,
We have been trying to let everyone know what is going on. We previously posted the SOE closing hours, I am posting them again at the bottom of this post.
Depending on how the business was registered, some restaurants can be open until 10pm. But I do know some that are deciding to close at 9 so the staff can get out earlier.
As you just mentioned, the SOE continues until the end of July, just prior to Dream Weekend. There has been some confusion, but the original 14 day SOE was extended TO 90 days, not extended BY 90 days.
The main reason for this SOE to be called is to give the police and military the ability to act in conjunction and be given extraordinary powers to detain known bad elements. If your friend was taken from his bed and is now in custody, he is still considered as part of the problem.
The temporary business hours are as following:
Clubs and fast food restaurants – from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m.
Every place required by law to operate under a tavern licence from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Petroleum filling stations from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.
Supermarkets, grocery shops, haberdasheries, cook shops and any other place offering goods for sale from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Pharmacies from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Any other public place, except a tourism enterprise, or a tourism accommodation as defined in the Tourist Board Act from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

According to a posting by Mi Yard in earlier May, he has been cooperating with the SOE and closing at about midnight. I believe he is still doing that until the SOE is lifted.

Re: State of emergency ? Friends in jail ?
Just talked to Delroy at MiYard and he is enjoying this break after 29 years!
Trying to keep it closed for a while... He looked relaxed with no shirt, no shoes and three computer monitors... :congratulatory:

that's a pretty sensible way to get through some mandated down-time.

So the Jungle & Scrubadub close at midnight? That's when they just really start up!
Re: State of emergency ? Friends in jail ?
I talked with the Wallace's and they say the Jungle has shifted hours, busy earlier now!

Sounds like they might know something you don't. :culpability:

The only thing I notice is, when driving around, there are military checkpoints at a couple points where you have to roll down your windows and turn on your interior lights and soldiers with machine guns look in and then wave you through. Like one of those war-torn African countries. Seems pointless to me. To me it feels like they are putting on a display to make it look like something is being done.
