Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
The Jamaican Government is working hard to bring tourism back-on-track in the safest way possible....
they will be launching a mandatory insurance programme for non Jamaican passport holders which will be "aimed at providing travel protection and emergency services to tourists coming into the island, as well as to ensure the safety and protection of workers in the tourism sector and, by extension Jamaican citizens."
More info provided in link below...

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
I’m impressed, seems to be a very inclusive insurance program for a cost of only $40. Good job Jamaica, what a great idea!! I’m interested in seeing how they will collect the fee.

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
Thanks for the information

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
Has it been determined where the fee will be collected?
-
Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
The price of $40 US sounds reasonable, but the amount for repatriation $100,000 and medical care $50,000 seem inadequate if those prices are in Jamaican dollars ($700 US and $350 US). Can you clear this up?

Happycappy....I've only read that it's to be paid at the time of the travel authorization.
We still have quite a few questions & we're waiting for answers.
Here's a bit more info & connection to the insurance company....

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
I just wonder who is the insurance company that will be paying out that money if anyone does get sick in Negril? We already bought our travel insurance but I will purchase this new insurance since I'll have no choice this trip.

Thank you for the great updates.

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
So will I not have to buy travel insurance in Canada if I have this mandatory insurance?
-
Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
This coverage will supersede the other coverage, some may overlap. It is up to you...
Check with your local Canadian insurance outlets...

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
From my reading of the announcements - which as far as I can see do not include the actual policy - it's entirely possible that the Jamaica Cares policy will cover health issues while in Jamaica but not the usual trip cancellation or delay coverage that regular trip insurance does provide. You'll need to read what the policies cover when they become available in order to make an informed decision.

Even with the policies I've purchased in previous years, not all cover trip cancellation/delays. You always had to pick the coverage you wanted, I would probably supplement the JA insurance to add coverages like trip cancellation.

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
So November 9th will be the two week mark from the Jamaica Cares Insurance launch announcement. Any body heard anything more about how Jamaica is going to collect it?

The JTB website states:
This page provides information and utilities to non-residents for the purpose of travel to Jamaica over the period November 1, 2020 to November 16, 2020

Don't expect to hear anything more for at least another week or so.... nothing will change before the 16th....

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
Anyone heard anything more about Jamaica Cares Insurance Program (JCIP)?
When this program information was released back in October it was widely speculated that the program would be implemented in "2 weeks", making it's start up date around November 6th. I haven't heard a word about it since then. Jamaica was the talk of the world when JCIP was first announced. Media outlets all over were commenting on how this tinny Island nation could come up with such a great idea to spark their tourism industry back up. I sure hope this didn't turn into a lame duck idea.

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
Nice to heard that the Jamaican Government is still talking about this and I am looking forward to to the "launch shortly". Lot's of questions need to be addressed still. I'm flying down November 21st, can I buy into it after it's release? If so, how do I pay? How long of a stay will I be covered, 1 week, 2 weeks?
Thanks Lisa. See you guys soon.

Absolutely none of those questions have answers yet.... When they do, we will post it!

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
The last we heard about the Jamaica Cares was January 13th and the launch date was to be February 1st. Three more days Mr. Prime Minister, you better get on it. Any bets if we see it at all?

Re: Jamaica Cares Insurance Programme to be Launched in Two Weeks
This plan seems to be chasing a moving goal.
When first mentioned, it would supply emergency medivac if you test positive. Under the current US and Canadian government guidelines, is that even legal now?
