Not sure if this intel is correct.... is Yellowbird Sea Tel currently closed indefinitely for renovations? If yes, any idea when the renovations will be completed?
I have a booking for December 26, 2021-January 9, 2022.
I have been to Yellowbird for 37 years excluding 2020 approximately 45 times... is my home away from home

"To our current and prospective guests and friends, The Yellow Bird Resort will close temporarily for refurbishing, effective May 1, 2021 until further notice.
We must apologize for any inconvenience in your current or future booking with us, we therefore use this time of COVID-19 pandemic as it is imperative to reconstruct and improve the amenities, services and overall ambience of the Resort in an effort to provide better accommodations to you.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
Feel free to call, email or send us a message should you have questions or concerns about this temporary closure.
Again, thank you so much for your patience, support and well wishes as we take this much needed time to work on The Yellow Bird, “your home away from home.”

It seems a change of ownership has taken place at Yellow Bird. On their facebook page they say they are closed for renovations. Also noted on FB was that they are (were) charging a fee of $20 US per person for a day pass to use their beach facilities. You received a towel, beach lounger, washroom and shower use and $10 US bar credit.
Does that seem like a decent deal to you? Maybe the new management wants to limit the number of non-guests using the property. It is not exactly clear if you could still stop in at the bar for a drink.

We were discouraged at first and stopped going for a while. Once we had an opportunity to talk with the day manager, we found out that many people were using the beach, beach chairs, wifi, and the washrooms, yet never spent a penny at the bar and then left the chairs out and garbage on the beach. Can't really blame them for taking action. We spend an afternoon or two there per week, use the bar and tip well so we were given the preverbal golden pass. I can't wait to see the new Yellowbird next season. I understand that the new owner also bought Merril's III next door and the old Risky Business next to Merril's so he will have a very nice stretch of beach for improvements.Quote:

They had that awful chain link fence along the beach. I always felt sorry for the people staying there. IMHO Yellowbird improved 100% when that came down. Anxious to see how the future plays out.
I agree, as a longtime paying guest, I noticed over the last couple of seasons that the number of non YB guests just coming and taking YB loungers was growing. These folks would not buy anything at the bar or perhaps one drink, take the majority of the prime chair positions and then leave their garbage on the beach. It got to the point that for paying YB guests it was difficult to find a "decent chair" and relax.Quote:

Although we have never stayed at YB, where we have stayed I've often been taken aback at the behavior of people who are not guests at a resort but show up in the morning, grab loungers, and claim prime spots by dragging the chairs there and piling their stuff on them. This is somewhat offensive when it's guests of the resort who don't actually stay on the beach throughout the day, but definitely so when it's someone staying at a cheaper place on the morass side. I can certainly sympathize with YB's new owners attempting to prioritize their paying guests without completely shutting out the general public, and I think the $20. with a $10. bar credit rebate is quite reasonable.
That is a shame if people were abusing the property like that. I hate to see people leaving garbage, and throwing cigarette butts in the sand, etc. I always thought it was well understood that one would spend and tip at the places they like to spend time. Same for me..... I spend a few hours a couple of days a week at the bar enjoying the drinks and the company! It was fun watching the World Cup a few years ago! I have no interest in using the lounge chairs or beach area but it sure is a nice backdrop. Any idea if the bar will be open in July?

Thank you for your post which reinforces in more detail my previous post re what my wife and I experienced. Sometimes multiple groups of 8-10+ people will show up early in the morning and act as if they own the yard= prime loungers, prime spots, entitled attitude etc. It is a fair call to implement the new $20/day/chair including $10 bar credit "chairs" policy for non YB guests. The YB is a functioning resort not just a bar or "drop-in center". This policy will not completely shut out the general public.Quote:

This beach chair thing is an issue everywhere. A charge for non resort guests is a possible solution however hotel security would need to get involved to make it work.
It's my understanding that YB is a business, not a charity. I see no problem implementing the charge to correct an issue impacting their paying guests. I would think $20, with all of it going towards food & drink, would get less resistance.

As an aside, other facilities are available including Alfred's, Bourbon Beach, Woodstock et al where there are chairs on a first come basis and a bar....
It happens, mostly on a Sunday, people will enter a resort on a day pass. They won't put down a deposit for a beach towel but simply sit in other peoples chairs and use their towels. I've seen it happen.Quote:

Well we’re going to be using all the facilities at country country including using credits towards their restaurant and bar even though we’re staying somewhere else. But then again I have 1,050 in a deposit that I can’t get back so they are treating it like day passes. So I end up losing a lot of money. Sorry I digress.
Have always loved YB!! Last stayed there July 2017...was looking to maybe re-book but now it looks like the prices have gone way up! I doubt we will be able to stay there again, and that makes me so sad!

Only seen 2 from the original staff left rest were fired.Marcia cake lady and Andrea kicked of property.Ref stripe went fr $250 to $600 no one drank there.Adjusted price to $400 j.No one hangs there with the exception of some who stay the winter.Corrine the only bartender left is working 7 days a week.The guest who come year after year are disappointed with changes I have spoken to.
We were there in December and yes, Corrine was the only one there. She was working 6 afternoons a week but sometimes closed before 3:00pm. Prices did go up and they weren’t even putting bananas in a dirty banana. So, we walked up one day when they were supposed to be open with our own bananas and it was closed. Sorry to lose such a wonderful spot but we won’t pay a lot of money anymore if they don’t start using bananas again. Best wishes for them all.
