The Covid curfew has been lifted!
From the Gleaner:
Persons who test positive will be required to isolate.
Persons will continue to be encouraged to wash their hands and sanitise.
Masking wearing in enclosed spaces to which the public has access will be a requirement until April 15.
Mask wearing, in general, will be recommended but not mandatory.
COVID-19 testing three days before travel to Jamaica will remain until April 15
Physical distancing is recommended but not mandatory.
Protection protocols in workplaces will be recommended but not mandated.
Meanwhile, the nightly curfew will come to an end starting tomorrow.
So too the ban on entertainment events.
Venues will be limited to 70% capacity.
This requirement will remain in place until April 15.

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I figured April 1. Fairly conservative considering what many of the other Carib islands that are also so dependent on tourism are doing.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I know this means they will review the requirements to test before entering on April 15, but it sure sounds like it will end then. Time will tell.

Interesting, My son and I arrive on Saturday April 16th. I wonder if we will have to get tests since we leave San Francisco Int'l late night on the 15th. If I goofed up this post I apologize, my first ever post after lurking for years.

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Welcome LeftCoastTom! It’s always nice to see new posters. That’s a great question. It seems the airline would have rules in place that may not update until 12am on the day it expires, probably eastern time. I hope you can find the answer and avoid testing and the expense.

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Just in time for our 4/20 arrival!!
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I haven’t had to wear a mask anywhere except the airport since Ive been here. Not even in the grocery store. Everything feels almost normal again.

From the Gleaner article:
" Masking wearing in enclosed spaces to which the public has access will be a requirement until April 15. "
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
wrong most businesses have made it optional. We haven’t had to wear it once. Not in cars or vans, not at LTU, Catcha, hotels, grocery store or on street.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
And many staff are no longer wearing masks including Security and front office staff.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I'm not sure where you shop BethAnn but HiLo and Value Master both still have security at the door taking body temp and checking for masks. Business that have no public contact may make mask wearing optional but not for enclosed spaces where the public has access. Mask wearing in places like HiLo is still mandatory.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I shopped in a public grocery store and they said it was optional. I’m here now and know the situation.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I’m not sure why people keep arguing about someone’s experience. Yes some businesses require it but some do not. That is what is going on.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Wise Choice I think it is
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
But maybe HiLo I can’t remember. It was a full equipped grocery store. Let Rob chime in…

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I'm glad those masks are history. Enough of that. :encouragement:

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Was just at HiLo maskless yesterday. The dude at the door shot some hand sanitizer on my one hand as I went in but no temp check and nobody said a word about masks as we loaded up with provisions for the week. Employees were masked up and a few Jamaican customers were also, but that was it.

Exactly. Thank you.

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
You know what annoys me? Is when Americans who aren’t on the island try to tell you what goes on. Um no. I’m pretty sure we know better than you. And you copying and pasting quotes just looks lame.

About this tread...All I can say is wow!!
I don't know if your previous post is about me BethAnn but let me set the record straight. #1 I'm not American, I'm Canadian. #2 I'm am on the island and been here since November. #3 regardless of what you think, the Jamaica Health orders state that mask wearing in an indoor setting to where the public has access, masks are mandatory, at least until April 15th, 2022.
https://jis.gov.jm/drma-orders-withdrawn/
Please stop spreading misinformation.
I didn't want to cut and paste the order cause I didn't want to seen "Lame".

When traveling abroad we try to leave the entitled American attitude at home and follow the local rules/laws. I understand things may have changed in the last two weeks but prior to that masks were still required in HiLo and other stores we visited including Times Square. I was spritzed with alcohol so many times I thought I might spontaneously ignite. :biggrin-new: I am glad to hear rules will officially be relaxed soon.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I am a very rare poster, but really appreciated your official cut and paste as we are American rule followers and will do whatever is needed to enjoy the Island!

Entitled really? Lol. Get a life dude. If they want you to wear a mask they will tell you. Then you wear one. Im also not a tourist like most on here. So I’m pretty sure I have a better understanding of what’s going on than y’all.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I’m sorry BethAnn I thought we were being asked to continue mask wearing until April 15. I also didn’t mean to imply you were an American citizen. I’m sure you know best, enjoy your vacation and stay well.

BA,
I just went to Value Master and had my temp checked but I was wearing no mask and the dude at the door had his mask around his chin. No one asked me to mask but I saw several tourists wearing theirs, so things are deffinatly changing here quickly.
Just as you were explaining what happened with your experiences, others in this post have been doing the same. Just because their experience is different than yours doesn't make their experience any less valid than yours. And BTW, a Canadian living here much more than you do is someone to at least listen and entertain their point of view. If you maintain preconceived ideas and refuse to entertain others experiences, you are looking for a tough time here.
Other than indoor places, not LTU, Catcha or virtually any place in Negril which are not indoors do the new "requirements" necessitate masks. My guess that only the banks are really enforcing the "requirements".
And asking before entering is excellent as each indoor business does seem to technically have their own rules. While the government has said that indoor places are required to have masking, once the DRMA was canceled that also canceled the legal enforcement of masking. The Ministry of Health can make the suggested requirements, but the DMRA was the only way of enforcement of the rules. Since that is gone, each business can enforce the requirements as they seem fit.
Several people, who are here and not necessarily American, gave you their experience. Rather than taking offense, try to learn from it.
This ain't TA so please chill a bit and enjoy your vacation. We do not want TA's pointless power trips fighting here.
And to be fair, until you have lived here for a couple years without leaving, we will always consider you "just a tourist" as you are a tourist. You don't live here. Get a few full years under your belt here and you will understand what I am saying.
And for those curious, the masking signs are no longer present at Value Master. I do appreciate the fact that most tourists in VM were masked without demanding it, better to be safe than sorry.
BA, Chill A While, you are on vacation! We all need that after Covid and now WWIII....

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Honestly man, I have no dogs in this hunt, but neither do I care to hear you further cite the policy as written -vs- the reality of what is actually taking place. An effort to actually understand the truth of various perspectives from those whose might be more immediate, and/or valid than your own, are always welcomed on boards such as these--much to the benefit of all whom participate.

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
You know, that's an interesting response, Rob. I've lurked here for some time and have found your skills in diplomacy generally solid and your insights valuable. You take it for what you perceive it's value, but, there may he a bit of something you might not be happy to recognize is creeping in there. Regardless of what you, or anyone else would most prefer to be the meeting point of the rule -vs- compliance, since the beginning of recorded time, and consequently before, inastutely provisioned public policy is rejected by the collective reason of the masses. Here's the bottom line. I am here now...and have been for several days. Since stepping out of the airport in Montego Bay, there is not a single human being who has suggested I might want to put on a mask. I'm well aware that is not what the gov't policy, as written--intended for, but that is not a compelling substitute for the reality of what is taking place. That's all I have to offer on that one. *♂️

Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
I’ve been telling my husband and friends and staff here about these conversations and they think it’s crazy to be arguing with people who are here on the ground and know whats going on. I also didn’t have to wear a mask next door at the Cliff hotel. Maybe it’s just because I’m cute and young lol. Jamaicans are not going to mask up like ninjas if they don’t have to.
-
Re: The Covid curfew has been lifted!
Wouldn't you know it, I was just forced to comply with masking, sanitizing and social distancing since the DRMA (Disaster Risk Management Act) expired.
But this was for a government function on the beach road.
Thank Jah I brought a mask!

We will be at LTU at around 3 if you want to meet up. Me and everyone else will be without masks:)
