Maybe I will get down this October.
Great news, BUT I just checked with Delta and they are still requiring Proof before boarding on April 16th and the they require a printout of the negative test.
Great news! I'll check American. Crossing my fingers!
AA said until Jamaica updates their entry requirements a test will still be required.
I'll check back tomorrow upon their recommendation.
I checked with American tonight. They will still require until Jamaica updates their entry requirements.
That's because they can't tell you anything different until corporate issues a memo redirecting them to the change in Ja policy. Try again late tomorrow.
I just checked my American Airlines app (10:52 PM PST) and it says I no longer need a pre-departure Covid test before leaving for our Saturday arrival in Jamaica. I had checked it earlier tonight. I bet it changed at midnight eastern time. I get to cancel $145.00 in tests we had scheduled for tomorrow. More beer money! Anyone arriving this weekend should keep checking their airlines site for updates.
Beautiful! I believe Jamaica has been moved down to the very lowest level of COVID concern. That, along with the relaxation of COVID travel mandates by other Carib tourist destinations competing for the tourist dollar, makes for a likely vibrant return to travel for the island and the wages/income for those to take care of their families there.
This was a logical move. With the Jamaican COVID bed capacity at over 800 island wide, on Tuesday there was a total of 14 hospitalizations. That is a percentage of 1.75% of the Covid beds on the island, over 98% of the beds are available. The testing positivity rate was 2.3% of all testing done on Tuesday.
Planes coming to the Caribbean stopping at other islands as well have passengers who had to be tested (like for Jamaica) and not tested (like the DR). To think everyone visiting the island wouldn't be exposed in the plane is farcical.
The PM did the right thing ending the mandatory testing just as was expected and predicted on here last week.
But be smart, always mask in a route taxi - that is basic common sense at this point.
Extremely well stated.
halleluah! so happy. flying Jet BLUE!!! i checked their website and its a go!! SOON COME!!
Rob, does the lifted mask mandate apply to the airports as well?
It’s amazing to me that some individuals aren’t embracing these changes. Like time to move on peeps, the people have suffered enough. I honestly believe that some people want this thing to last forever and only God knows why. Completely baffling.
Although eliminating mask mandates and ending testing requirements does make it easier for us to come and go, it still does not end the virus. It probably WILL last forever.Quote:

If you wish to not wear a mask, fine, then don't. I don't like it either, and don't wear one when it is not required, but many people are at a higher risk, and still feel safer wearing them, along with keeping social distancing protocols. It's a personal choice, not baffling, nobody wants it to continue forever.
We were on the West End for nearly a month over Aug.- Sept. 2021, in the thick of the pandemic when lack of tourism was causing economic hardship on top of pandemic crisis. Business was pretty dead and It was our very tiny effort to help by spending what money we could to help our friends. The whole time we were there we followed all Covid protocols with sanitizing, temp checks and, of course, masking. My point is that at no time did I feel like I was being made to suffer. Nor did I ever hear a single Jamaican complain of such "suffering". Given the low uptake of vaccines on the island I would suggest that the mask mandate has been the top mitigating factor in knocking down the virus and avoiding real suffering.
Hi there I was referring to the Jamaican population suffering not mask wearers. I really don’t care who wants to wear a mask, go for it. But I can tell you that every single Jamaican I am close with applauds the lifting of the strict Covid requirements and with the exception of a few, no one wanted to wear a mask let alone have any other restrictions inflicted on them.
Here we go again
John's Hopkins University (the gold standard when it comes to Covid related issues) did a very extensive study on the effectiveness of lockdowns and masks. I highly recommend taking the time to see what they came up with before voicing an opinion.
It’s a moot point now really. Even the airlines have ditched the mandate as of last night.
I did. A quick google search shows it is a non-published, non-peer reviewed report that was written mostly by a couple of economists (not epidemiologists) who were found on record as early as March 2020 as anti-mask. The report was not issued by THE Johns Hopkins University (which maybe would have been a gold standard). Serious reporting calls it the "so-called Johns Hopkins report". Its methodology and findings are as full of holes as Swiss cheese and the only media outlet that gave it any coverage was Fox News because it plays to their predetermined
narrative. The reason mask mandates are being lifted is because they have worked, not that they haven't.
Geez my comment was about the Jamaican mandates being lifted not dissing the pro-maskers. Let’s all cordially agree to disagree and move on.

The story I found and quoted was from Forbes Magazine. Maybe they got their facts confused.
Kids are much cuter unmasked!
