yep, sidewalk is where he would ride
I am not aware of any bike rentals that would have a bike suitable for a 7 year old. And I assume that you would accompany him.
Letting a 7 year old negotiate the sidewalk alone on a bike is not advisable. Driveways cross the sidewalk and drivers making the turn may not see your 7 year old.
I have never seen a lone child on a bike on the sidewalk.
Thanks Rob
Was only looking for a place that rents peddle bikes, not parental advise!
My son was a avid bicyclist since he was young and still an extremely talented dirk bike rider. He has been coming to Jamaica with me since he was 5 years old. He never missed his riding when he was in Negril. Trust me , your son will be entertained with the beach, seeing new things, playing dominos with new Jamaican friends, etc. No bike shouldn't be a big deal.
PS... Hey Rob, I will always take your advice, parental or otherwise. :)
And thats the last bit of help you will get from him I would guess.
Safety advice from a long time Negril resident. How presumptuous. What were you thinking Rob? ;-)
The reason that you don't see children's bikes for rent is the 18 year age limit to rent one.
Both for insurance reasons and the renter must have basic knowledge of Jamaican road safety laws.
And I will always offer advice to make sure everyone has the best vacation possible. If something would happen to your 7 year old by riding on the sidewalk, I would never be able to live with myself if I didn't warn about the dangers.
As Ras pointed out, I live here and have never seen a lone child riding a bike on the sidewalk. That tells me something...
Hey Rob, looking for some advice.
I'm not a strong swimmer and am very much out of shape. I find walking difficult. But I was thinking about swimming to Floyd's Pelican Bar as I've heard a lot of good things about it. What do you think I should do?
Get a ride Parottee and catch a boat from there. It will be the cheapest ride. It is the closest point to Floyd's. Even a strong swimmer would have trouble making that swim with the currents. And after spending a few hours at Floyd's, swimming will probably be the last thing on your mind.
And I am sorry for my post, I thought people would realize I was joking about swimming to an island. I thought this thread might take off as asking Rob ridiculous questions like...
Rob, where can I rent a unicycle in Negril? I ride my unicycle every day here in the States and do not want to get rusty while in JA.
TuffGong,
I knew your post wasn't serious but thought I could use it to let people know where to get the cheapest boat to the Pelican Bar.
Besides, at low tide you can practically walk the whole way there. You would just need to swim a relatively short distance.
But you didn't answer my question about renting a Unicycle? (:
And based on that comment... She does need parenting advice. Don't let your kid run with scissors either. LOL
