Negril needs your help! Just an email....
Today at 2pm Negril time (Central/Chicago time) my friend Winthrope Wellington is having a live podcast on his YouTube channel discussing the recent morass fire and the water problem facing Negril. US$3.2 million has been allocated to re-wet the Great Morass by the UN, and zero has been spent.
He will be discussing this with some town leaders and you can find out more here:
https://www.youtube.com/live/e2nqeBd...VOi6j0YDBPSKWz
---------------------------------------------------
The water problems are being discussed in the following thread:
https://negril.com/forum/showthread....ater-Situation
We would really like to prevent a protest and that can be done with your help! All the residents of Negril, who you come to visit often, and we thank you for that, all we need you to do is to write a heartfelt email to Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett asking that the 2018 promise of the increasing the water supply to Negril be fulfilled as soon as possible. Just 33km of already purchased pipe needs to be installed.
You all came through for us during Covid, raising over US$6000 for the soup kitchen alone. All we need you to do now is to send an email to Minister Bartlett at info@visitjamaica.com.
For every one of you who write, that counts to the government more than 10 residents complaining. Once they know that you know that Negril provided about US$1.3 Billion to the government coffers last year and many Negril citizens have no water at all, they will not want the bad publicity and do something about it. Your voices are stronger than ours. Please help.
Once again, all we need you to do now is to send an email to Minister Bartlett at info@visitjamaica.com.
Thank you ALL!!!

The 33km of pipe to increase the supply from Roaring River is our best hope. Anything else would take too long to be finished without terrible consequences for the residents. We are desperate.
Please, Please, Please keep those letters going to Minister Bartlett at info@visitjamaica.com !!!
I am not kidding when I say EVERYONE in Negril thanks you!

Re: Negril needs your help! Just an email....
If you happen to know anyone in real media, be it newspapers, local TV or radio, national news, etc, please pass along our pleas for water to them. The more visitors and potential visitors who know the water crisis in Negril for the residents, the sooner this problem will become a thing of the past.
Thank you again!

Thank you so much for helping! I don't think you all really understand how much you are helping! If we can get a hundred or 2 hundred - the problem would be solved!
Please help the residents of Negril! You are essentially our only hope. We need water now, and the government plan is to have it solved in 3 to 5 years. And even that i wishful thinking. Taking the 33km of pipe sitting in Little London and installing it from the Roaring River as planned in 2018 would solve the problem the second it is installed.
Please let the Minister of Tourism Bartlett how you feel about Negril providing the government with USS$1.3 billion last year from the money YOU graciously spent in Negril and the government not even providing the residents with water. The residents are beyond the boiling point (very bad pun).
But we do need all of your help!!!
Thank you ALL again!
And we cannot wait to see you again!!!

Re: Negril needs your help! Just an email....
The very first link in this thread is a link to the Throp podcast which is now a recording of the live cast yesterday. There is an "AI" automated transcript and at 1:34:30 here is the "transcript":
We try to find out about this first is it true and if it is true what are you doing about it you need to do something. If you want to help us out do exactly that you know uh call the The Minister's office email them find out directly from them or his office what's going on. Why is this the way it is or is it the way that it is that we've explained it. Don't take it for our word as Mr Grizzle says and see if they can explain to you because we're not getting any answers over here and that would I think that would really really help us.
The panel group is essentially asking the viewers to contact the Ministries as the Ministries don't give them answers. This seems to be a common theme when dealing with the Government.
While their 2 hour discussion covered a lot of topics, we are focusing here on water now for the West End. To connect the 33km pipe from Roaring River immediately. Get the JDF Engineers to install it at an emergency pace.

I hope this is something they will respond to. Sent this morning.
Dear Minister Bartlett: April 2, 2024
As a long time visitor to Negril ( I first came as a 21 year old in 1972) I have been very concerned about the reports of the lack of water in the west end of Negril. My wife and I visit yearly and stay and eat exclusively at "mom and pop" hotels and restaurants on the west end. Not knowing what the water situation will be 7 months from now I have begun exploring alternatives to our yearly 2 week trip to Negril such as Isla Mujeres, Tulum or Placencia, Belize. We would rather stay in Negril as it feels like "going home" but am willing to explore other options. Please help rectify the current water problem quickly so we can make vacation plans soon.
Regards,
Robert and Janet Johnson
