We spent a wonderful 18 days in Negril. Arrived on December 15th only to find out that American Airlines left our luggage along with 20 other passengers luggage in Charlotte. Not the best way to start our trip spending 3 1/2 hours in the airport waiting for our luggage & finding out it didn?t make it on the plane and having to wait in line to make a claim. Funny thing is while we were taxiing down the runway in Charlotte, they told a passenger behind us that her luggage didn?t make it on the plane. They told her 3 times that she could get off the plane & stay with her luggage. WTF? They didn?t bother to tell the rest of us an entire luggage trolly didn?t make it on the plane! It took two days to get our luggage and many calls to AA ?totally unacceptable, but we decided to forget about the first two days and restart our vacation when we got our luggage. It wasn?t our clothes & personal items that we were worried about, it was the 2 large suitcases filled with relief items. When we finally got our luggage, it looked like they threw them out on a fly by?covered in mud and a broken bag. Thankfully the generator and other items in the suitcases weren?t broken.
Spent each day on the beach under the shade. The weather was great! The last two days we were there, it was windy with big waves. All good though, we were in Jamaica! We supported the beach vendors every day. They were working hard trying to sell their goods. After the 27th, there were more vacationers on the beach. So happy to see the usual vendors?Anthony the Patty Guy, Layton the Bread Guy, Dean the Pork Guy, Bruce the Cigarette Guy, Kevin the cashew & peanut guy, Ricky & Flex the juice guys!
We ate most meals at Charela and ventured to Rondel almost every night for drinks and sunset. We did go to Kool Vybz, Rondel, and Kuyaba for dinner as well. We got room service most nights. I have a broken wrist, so eating in public was a pain. Dropping food on the table or myself was annoying.
All in all we had a great trip and were happy to support Jamaica! Please travel to Jamaica! They need your support! Tip extra and bring supplies if you are able. Many of the staff & vendors live outside of Negril and have been living without power or water! Most have had damage, lost roofs, or their homes. Anything extra you can give or donate is greatly appreciated! We brought 6 new phone chargers and ended up giving our personal phone chargers to staff at our hotel. They were a huge hit and much needed! We also brought collapsible 5 gallon water jugs and water purifier tablets. The need is real! Jamaicans are resilient people! ??
