Been only a few short years ..but seems the amount/quantity of posts is down ?? JUST sayin'
lisa and i will be there feb 3rd to 19th, at ROOMS ,soon come
definitely way down. I have noticed this also.
And your point is what? Quit griping and start posting!!!
I know some dropped off when the board software was updated because they couldn't handle the change but I think mostly its because it has been the slow season. As high season gets rolling, the number of posts is bound to increase.
Actually the numbers for the board are up quite substantially. A quick check of archive for 2010 shows that there were 150 threads active between November 20 and December 20th. This year 2011, for that same time period, there are currently 250 active threads - an increase of about 60% over last year. For the number of visitors for the board, in November of 2010 there was 112,430 number of visitors to the board. This year for November, there were 183,067 - an increase of about 61%.
Possibly the perception of the posts being down is because of the new software format. The display looks different so that might account for the false perception that the board is less active.
The growth of 60% this year is really quite astonishing considering we did change the board software that had been running since 2006. Change is always hard to deal with - but this increase shows just how terrific all our boardies have been adjusting to the new software.
A big up to you all!
Big up to you Rob!
Yeah I miss all the "oldtimers" here seems they all went elsewhere.I've been aroud since the the board started and miss all the contributers over the years. They had some great stories.Well like all things they change.
Some "oldtimers" have changed their names, some have passed away, the only thing certain in life is change... But we still have many of the long time contributors on the new board - including Ras Walleye above in this thread! I am sure some oldtimers do not like the format change on the board, but they may still be lurking and we could hear from them in the future!
One of the strengths here on Negril.com is that we do draw many new members as well as long time contributors. And please remember, in 10 years the new members will be referred as "oldtimers"... (grin)
Yeah I know but just the other day I was thinking of FF Cindy,Rizzla,Vinnie,Rasta john,SiS Irie,Martin and his pics of Red Stripe caps (RIP),Fat fish, and many others.Seen alot of change here.I just feel the board was more laid back.Don't get me wrong I still enjoy very much sometimes I like to read the newbie reports and think back to my first couple trips and the adventures. The board can sure educate people on the runnings in negril that I am thankful.
"Good friends we have had, oh good friends we've lost along the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say."
For those that have passed we raise our palms to the sky.
Many of those who simply no longer post here, including some mentioned by Biggs, can be found on facebook or other forums.
The only true constant is change. This board in whatever form, has been an almost daily part of my life for over 13 years.
Thanks Rob, see you soon.
Bless...
Ed
Things do change and sometimes a rest is as good as a change, meaning that some do come back after a 'hitatus of sorts'. I also miss the boardies who have passed on, the familiar names mentioned above, who were here daily to post of their adventures. We all grow as this board has over the years...and I have also been here since the beginning.
I have posted many trip reports over the years...my style of reporting has probably changed, as I have throughout the years. There are many other avenues for Negril regulars and some have chosen those. What I love about Negril is there are always choices.
Thanks Rob for all the years :)
I think a lot of the oldtimers have actually learned and shared everything they ever needed to know right here on this board and I have personally seen a lot of them here buying land purchasing homes building homes.
So this is where they are all hiding they are in Ja for real and less on the boards. That is my conclusion from what I have seen and heard.
I learn so much from this board. Thanks for everything Rob.
it seems like photo posting is down a bit....and I also miss the "old day stories" that were abound, but time struggles on...lol
Man, I have been thinking the opposite! I have to find time this weekend to catch up on the trip reports, onsite & off! Sweetness, Sprat, TicToc, Clarity & co., poolguy...etc.
Things and people have changed, that is for sure. SO many awesome new contributers!
This gave me a giggle - "I just feel the board was more laid back."- because I found the board informative yet frightening back in the day. I lurked for quite sometime, didn't join until some changes were made! It seemed very "cliquey" and people were often mean to "newbies", their questions were to stupid to answer etc. It didn't always feel like a Negril message board.
Everyones perspective is different I guess :)
I really enjoy it, too, Rob .... You're doing a GREAT job! mi SOON come ....
Rambo glad your still around.Katho I know what you are saying.I was refering way back to the 80's & 90's.Seen many changes on the board people come and go and I still find it entertaing.Just a differant vibe back in the day.
I have done nothing for two days trying to catch up on the board after being in Negril last week. Phew! Finally done. I really enjoyed the reports from Sweetness, TicToc, Sprat, Patty & Clarity. Did I miss anybody?
Biggs - You and I should write a trip report for our 1st Trip - Mine was in March 1978 and Negril sure looked a whole lot differetn back then. I will need to get some of the folks that were with me to corroborate certain events since that is coming up on 34 years now..! The Newbie reports are great to read just for the exuberance of then finding this likkle Paradise called Negril. I am talking Tizzy from Austin & Manda From Toronto and of course the Markus & Daisy adventures too.
The Negril.com Message Board was started back on July 31st, 1997...
Here is a blast from the past:

Thanks Rob thats what I'm talking about. 1997 man my dates are jumbled to many trips to da rock.
Its like Jam..People come and people go for a variety of reasons..Some go to other boards that aren't as "Tourist" orientated, etc...I enjoy reading other peoples experiences in Jam-the Newbies as well as the Oldtimers....and always Love seeing the pictures !!! It seems I always learn something new no matter how long one has been coming to Jam...Thats what its all about: To Share and To Learn....(IMHO)
As a "newbie" I have to say that I'm really happy at the mix of "oldies" and "newbies" that post on the board.. and from a newbie perspective never once felt stupid for asking a question that may have been asked a 100 times before and was welcomed with a ton of information and warmth from everyone on the board, old and new posters. It's great to hear about how Negril once was but it's also fantastic to hear about what it is now and to people who have never been. The perspective is so vast amongst different travellers I don't think taking in anyones views will ever get old because they all are different with the one common denominator.. love for Jamaica. :)
semi(and crew):):) are still here !!!!!
48 and a wakeup,soon come.

Wow! I guess I've been on this board since almost the beginning. We started planning our first trip in Aug. or Sept. of 1997. My wife Kay was changing jobs and had a little extra cash. She asked me where I would like to go on a winter vacation. She probably thought I'd say Cancun or somewhere in Mexico again. Nope, a guy at work had just returned from Negril and convinced me that was the place to go. I got on the internet, typed in Negril and the rest in history. We've been every year since. Alas, not this year. :(
Got lots of big projects going on with the house and other things this Winter. But We are planning next year already. Another South Coast and Negril adventure.

Hey Rob
As a quasi- 'Old timer' I have to chime in and thank you for your persistence in keeping this board going.
I really appreciate it - it's my Negril touchstone - and it really means a lot to me - honestly, I'd be lost with out it.
And thank you for all you have done for me and the encouragements and the help that you have un-selfishly and enthusiatically provided me from time to time.
And the advice that has kept me from embarassing myself at least a dozen times. Thank you , Thank you.
And you're such a good dude too! The patience of Job and always friendly and helpful - I know it can't be easy, I know it hasn't been easy.
Thanks again . . .
I only have one likkle request - can you bring back the old Beingee's colours, man?
They were awesome!
Soon come;
K3
This board helped me decide to go to Negril, and helped me enjoy all it had to offer. A complete stranger can go to Negril and meet up with other boardies and instantly be part of things. How cool is that? I am very thankful for all that is offered here.
Kahuna,
I added a green/black theme to the board colors - you can set that yourself in the settings. Click on the Settings link at the top of the page. Then click on the General Settings link on the left under My Settings (My Account) and then scroll down until you see the Forum Skin option in the middle of the page, then choose the Green Black 1 option. Scroll down to the bottom and choose Save Changes. Then you will have a color theme that you will recognize!
Thanks man!
I've been having a hard time adjusting to the new board. As a result, I don't check it near as much as I used to. It's probably just me but I found the old board more inviting and easier to read. I'm trying really hard though. As a side note, Rob, do you know if the construction at old FOR REAL?
Edit: I just switched to the green/black mode - hope this helps me.
100% agree with Katho. I did like the old board format much better, but I had lurked for years before I finally felt comfortable enough to post and find this to be a much kinder, peaceful, and less cliquey board and want to thank Rob for that (salute).
I have been here since 1998, thanks Rob. Sometimes we just come and go for a short break.
I agree with you negriljail...my observation as well......
I don't think I'm considered and Old Timer as of yet, However I still enjoy this board and have noticed here and the Web Cast chats alot of newbies, which is fantastic....The board is growing and still the first thing I check after Email each morning...I have many friends I would have never met if it wasn't for this board. And have had some great advice and laughs...So...Thank You Rob! and see you soon!!!
