On or off the beach. How about the cliffs. We're heading down next week and are ready for to taste the best Negril has to offer.
We enjoy Dean's jerk pork on the beach when he passes by late morning. Looking to find a place for dinner or a snack. We need to start a new tradition.
We like 3 Dives and Eddie's De Bar on the cliffs....but to be honest on our last trip, my favorite of all we had was Bigga's (He has a stand on the side of the road in Green Island)...depending on how you are getting from the airport to Negril, you can ask your driver to make a stop at Bigga's It is DEFINITELY worth it!
We did our taste test this past trip and my favorite was Tayon's, next to Jenny's on the cliffs. C&D Bar, 10 square feet of texas, is right there, so we would usually stop by both while in the neighnorhood. De Bar and 3 Dives are also good. We thought Best in the West was a bit overrated but still delicious. Always happy with the random Oil Drum chicken as well, so you really can't go wrong. But Tayon's was our favorite choice. Can't wait to go back!
Although notjerk chicken, Niah's Kitchen on the beach has great patties and other fare. The vegetarian (calaloo) and the italian are my personal favourites. He will also prepare ital food with advance warning. It's become a tradition for us to get some Niah's.Quote:

I think "the best" is hard to determine.. It's a matter of taste - and personality! I really enjoyed Robert's Jerk at Fun Holiday myself!

That said ... same as the others mentioned ... 3 Dives (Llydie & Paula) - loads of folks complain that they haffi wait too long for their food delivery there ... truth be told ~ I have never let that bother me. Gosh - WHERE do folks have to get to next?? Have a couple drinks and enjoy each others company and vibe! relax! it is Jamaica! 3 Dives will always be a favorite of ours.
I have heard wonderful things about De Bar ... Eddie of course is Llydie's brother ... keeping it running in the fambalee ... excellent quality product there as well. I only visited De Bar once for Spratt's Fund Raising Party ... they offered goat meals, not being an eater of goat, I went off the grid and ordered a chicken meal for myself - it was excellent as I expected it would be at a price we had no problem paying. not sure what it was, I don't handle paying for things myself - Mr. paid ... but I suppose the price was comparable to 3 Dives - and their prices are not the cheapest, but we are not concerned with the cheapest. :)
we don't stray far off the path of tried and true ... Mr. has known Llydie & Eddie forever - so we go to them on the cliffs, and of course Marshall / Step Aside barrel on the beach road.
J-Chuck ... there is one other barrel Vendor that my Bim will buy from for me ... I wonder if it is your guy Biggs?? I can't speak to that other "one" because I don't know who it is?
He has told me ... but I just don't know? and you are too right ... this "BEST" is all relative ~ everyone will have a different best.
The best jerk chicken in town is the one I'm doing on the barbecue right now. I mean it's -4'C here in Manitoba but the chicken is good and the Red Stripes are cold.
Getting back to the topic....chicken is chicken. It's the same everywhere. What makes a good "jerk" chicken is the jerk sauce. We’ve had a lot of chicken over the years and have had everything from ketchup with hot sauce to a great home made jerk. The best chicken in Negril (and therefore the best sauce) would have to be 3 Dives!!!

Thanks for all of the recommendations. Bigg's on the way into Negril sounds like the perfect welcome home on way home to Negril!
We've tried to get into 3 dives but it's always been too long of a wait just to get a drink ordered. Most likely where going at the wrong time. We'll need to make another attempt this year.

I must have caught 3-Dives on an off night. I tried it last october because everyone said it was so great. It took an hour and was dry and bland. I will give it one more try next trip, but I like about every single place listed in the above posts better then 3-dives...at least for jerk chicken.
3 Dives for sure. Bigg's barrel yes but haven't been to him in a long time. Have to get my fix of chicken from there this yr.
Still have to try DeBar too. They weren't serving when there last for some reason unknown.
Bigga's on the way to Negril yeah nice and HOT! Gotta have a Red Stripe with that Jerk for sure.
And who ever said it....... Mine's pretty good too!

we like 3 dives, but there was a barrel guy across from ROOMS beside jah bs, great jerk chicken and awesome soups like cow belly and his conch soup, hope is still there when we return in feb, soon come

3dives, when I'm in the area.
Burbon Beach, depends on the cook. Hasn't been that great in the past three years. (To me, sauce to hot, not consistant. Chicken undercooked at times.)
I know this didn't help, but it personal chioces, and now I'm hungry!
Eddie's De Bar on West End is the best jerk I have ever had period and that goes for the perfectly seasoned juicy bird AND the gloriously hot granny sauce - perfection. But I am never done with my research (lol).
My personal favorite is also Eddie's De Bar. VERY nice people there. Not only is the chicken fantastic, I thought the rice and peas were the BEST I've had, and believe me, I've had A LOT. One guest in our party had a huge lobster dinner one night that he still talks about today.
A couple trips ago I brought some newbies to Eddie's for chicken. We inquired about purchasing the INCREDIBLE sauce and Eddie said no problem. We had to wait until he was going to make another batch, so I prepaid him and he had it delivered to our hotel a day or two later. We paid $10US for a 20 oz Wata bottle full. We taped it up real good and had no problem getting it back in our suitcase. It lasts for months refrigerated. Highly recommend! I agree with "brownsd54", the sauce is important.

Ossie's has the best chicken and pork .............. if you don't want to cross the road or are a barefooted beach walker just go to Lena's Inn Ting by the Donaldson's Inn ............. have a cold one and they will be happy to run across the road for what ever you need ............. or ask to walk through the property to get to Ossie's just across the road ............... Ossie's / Donaldson's are the same family so should be no problem
justchuck - I have to agree Bigg's chicken is FANTASTIC and the most juicy I have tasted. He's also a great person to chat with.
I should add that he usually has it ready around 6:30-7:00PM and well worth the wait.
Each eatery has their own version of jerk. I cannot pick a favorite but will say that Best of the West and Rainbow Arches is my pick on the beach.
Ossie's gets my vote at least 3 times each reach : )
Never been disappointed with Best in the West in over 20 years. They tell me that many customers (mainly US) reject heavy heat so they have made the sauce a bit milder. But if you like it spicy, just ask the to make it that way for you, sit down at the bar for a stripe and get your taste buds ready.

Jerk Chicken- first you have to define it. Are you also talking about "Pan Chicken" which is the barbecue cooked in the oil drums, or the real jerk? For pan chicken, most any of the places along the roads will do. Some spicier than others, lots just pour the ketchup (gasp!) on.
Real jerk- over a smoky coal fire and first rubbed with the incredible spices with lots of scotch bonnet and scallion- is truly hard to find. DeBuss, or now Bourbon Beach (if they're still open and cooking) had the real stuff. Ozzie's isn't bad, but not smoky enough. Bigga's, in Green Island is good, get it on the way.
Dragon Bar- on the Red Ground road, is really good. Worth the trip!
Don't confuse pan chicken with the real jerk!

Dont confuse pork with chicken! The "Dragon Bar" is actually called Red Dragon and they have great jerk pork daily (except Sundays) but they do not sell jerk chicken....Quote:

The real jerk is smokey and rubbed with spices and cooked really slow over pimento wood. Pan chicken just isn't the same. It's charcoal broiled.
