George Washington country western horse ranch
So on the recomendation of another boardie we made a trip to this place the kids and wife were wanting to do this, and as long as they had some cold Redstripe around I am in!

I rode up in the island cruiser rental, while the family went with the group on the bus, now that was fun!
Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
Has anyone rode with Country Western lately? I talked to a tour operator that used them all the time...now they say nobody answers the phone or returns messages. Any help would be appreciated. Will be in Negril in less then a week! Thanks

Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
Im glad you had a good time, but I have to say that it just breaks my heart to see such skinny horses. :(
My mom has a Thoroughbred horse farm, and I grew up riding and showing, but I don't know that I could enjoy riding horses in that poor condition. Oh this makes me sad.
Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
Thanks Tiz.
@Eden - the horses look fine to me, compared to other 3rd world countries where you can see the rib cage of the horse.
Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
No problem, he'll get you taken care of.
Eden, I understand where you are coming from but please try not to compare them to thoroughbred show horses, you just can't. Like Tcross said....
Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
My daughters would like to ride while we're in Negril and the only horseback riding I'm aware of is through Chukka Tours and it's $85 per person for 3.5 hours and you do take a ride in the sea.
Does anyone have any information regarding Chukka's riding tour? Where is it? How long to get there? What to bring, etc?
If the GW Ranch is less expensive, we'd consider doing that tour, but if they don't answer their phone, then obviously we won't be able to go!
Thanks!
Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
Dawn I can get you in touch with them if you're interested.
I dont have personal exp. with Chukka, but I do know that it's a big tour company so you will probably go out with a large group. I would recommend CW to anyone but especially if your girls are riders as they will let you go at your own pace, and offer a more "customized" experience IMO. Rudy is a sweetheart and a great guide. Wade makes you feel so at home, like fam. Basically you ride the trail down to the beach where you will have a chance to hang out under a pavillion. They put bareback pads on the horses and then take you way out into the water so that the horses can swim. I have some good pics and a review of our ride in my trip report from last summer....I'll just post the link in case you wanna check it out...

Re: George Washington country western horse ranch
Ya, Tizzy...please PM me if you can and let me know what I can do to hook up with Wade.
Just a little FYI though...mommy (me) is an experienced former barrel racer/rider, but daughters aren't so experienced-in fact, daughter who is 15 has only ridden once and it wasn't good! LOL-but she still wants to go-bless her heart! Oh, and I won't mention the jellyfish stings! Yikes!
I've been stung before but my girls haven't (yet?) so mums the word!
Nice report, by the way...and lovely photo of Alfred-such a tragic earthly end to a wonderful and sweet man.
I thank you for doing that girl! Very sweet of you...
