Clives or JUTA..?
now that i've booked my trip.. clives or juta for transportation.. previously I've had family members come pick me up.. but i don't want to hassle them. I've read great thingss about clives but JUTA has a great price... what has your experience been with either of these transporters?
-
We decided to try juta on our last trip in Jan because of the price and it went great. We didn't even wait 15 min and the bus only had one other couple when we left so total of 4. Just be sure and call the day before you leave Negril so you can confirm pick up.
-
Clives was $30 each way...great service...10 minutes after clearing customs we were on the road.
JUTA has been great, but two reaches ago I was stuck in the parking lot at Sangster waiting for a bus to fill up for more than an hour. Then we made stops etc...with a full bus I don't like the stops...and I hate waiting...
-
I always do JUTA because it's super cheap and I have never had to wait long. Reserve online before you leave to JA and print out the confirmation they send. You pay when you get there...or last time I paid the driver when he dropped me at the hotel...then like the above poster mentioned, just call the day before you leave to make sure they have you down for the ride back.
-
used both...JUTA is the least expensive by quite a bit now....Clives is $30 shared now.....use to be $20 shared
Clives will make stops and be der to pick you up........much faster than JUTA to get to Negril........
even a shared ride with Clives can turn into a private ride.......most of da time
JUTA is less money but dem wait to fill up the vans.......before they leave the airport.......
plus JUTA will probably only make one stop for bathroom/cold drinks........
then they need to drop customers off at the different hotels.......
plus JUTA seems to pick you way earlier for going to the airport than Clives cause of all their pickups.......
Clives usually do anything you want....stop at MegaMart, Cambio's, Bigga's, HiLo, etc etc
so you gotta weigh the difference if the savings with JUTA is worth it.......

clives the best
Would only use Clive. A few stops, ur n JA no problem.
-
I would go for Clives, I used them last reach
-
I use Tim Air when I come in..cause I just want to get here (Westend resort) & use Clives going back. This year Tim Air didn't wait for me (after 20 years of using them) cause the other couple wanted to go...wasn't happy about that!! So I dialed up Clive & he had a driver there in 10mins. & we were on the road (solo) at $30...can't beat that service!!!!
-
my flight lands at 9:27AM do you think that will help or hurt the amount of time i have to wait for either one to depart?
-
If your flight is getting in that early i would go with Clives..I have taken Juta before coming in on a early fligtht..I mean if you want to just want then fine if NOT Clives is the way to go!!!
-
I used Juta for the convenience last year instead of a private driver. Yes, the price is reasonable but if you are used to being on your own schedule (stops etc.) it is much easier going private. My Juta driver did not interact with anyone on the bus (they were all "newbies") so in my opinion they missed out on some of the jamaican history along the way. And NO stops! I did use Juta 2 years ago and that driver was kind of shy but did make stops. I guess its all in what you prefer.
-
I just returned two weeks ago. Used Juta going and Clives returning. I was disappointed with Clives. Called the day before to make pick up arrangements. Spoke to Clive myself and felt confident I would be picked up at the designated place and on time. Never had a problem before so didn’t anticipate one this time. Unfortunately when my pick up time came and went, I started calling and calling to find out what the problem was. Seems there was no record of my reservation. A driver was dispatched and got to me 45 minutes later. Needless to say I will use Juta from now on.
BTW I arrived in Jamaica at 9:30 AM and only had to wait 15 for Juta to roll.
If you decide to use Clives, I suggest you call the night before departure AND the morning of to confirm your pick up.
-
remember you get a phone to use when you hire clives. be sure it has a sim card! lol
-
I have had Clive forget about a friend's pick up a time or two I personally have not had any issues with his service and do like that my wait time is
never an issue, I have also been the only one in the van, loved that!
I have also used Juta a few times. Wait time no more than 30mins, never in the van alone....almost always packed to the max, but always on time for my return and never an issue with calling to remind them about my reservation, they are always there.
-
I had been using Clives but because of the price increase I used JUTA this trip. I also used JUTA before switching to Clives but for the first time, I had a VERY long wait - approx an hour with JUTA. At one point we were pulling away and the driver was called back!! I also didnt like the driver (not friendly!) and worse yet - there were folks that were going to Samsara and they basically got dropped off on the side of the beach road and told another driver would take them the rest of the way!!! I did not take JUTA back to the airport and I will no longer use them but will use Clives instead.
-
i like using juta from mobay to negril.i had them both ways, but they forgot to pick me up for the return to the airport.so from now on i use a private cab.then i know i will be on time.the guy that drives the bus lives where i stay on the beach.problem solved

I've had some terrible luck with Clive's, but I won't discount his service --- most of the time. Juta in, private ride out when time is essential.
-
mi had great service with Kenny two weeks ago.......kennnyjamaica@gmail.com..........
and had great service taking the SeaStar Van back to the airport too.......
$30 bucks for Kenny and SeaStar was $25 bucks........
and wi made poor Kenny stop about 5 or 6 times on the way to Negril...........wi tipped him good
it is very important to have a half decent ride into Negril to get the vacation off on da right track..........
taking JUTA is pot luck and what do you expect from the cheapest transfer service.........
going back to the airport mi could really give a chit as long as mi make da flight.........
mi hate dat drive......like a lot of people......lol

both JUTA and Clive's tell the traveler up front that they must call the day before departure, to confirm the return trip to the airport. if they get no confirmation call they will not come pick you up - not sure if this may have something to do with why ppl think they have been 'forgotten'.
i've used them both with great results, always an enjoyable ride with either company, and no problems. Next time i'll probably use JUTA again since clive's price has gone up and since I travel solo, either one of them works great for me.
-
I have never called Clives to confirm and have always been picked up and on time.
-
really? hmmm, maybe I looked untrustworthy to them, lol.
-
Is it possible that the need to confirm coincides with whether or not you prepaid for you return trip in advance?
-
ah. good point. i've done it both ways, and honestly can't remember which times were which.
-
I usually pay round trip and have never been forgotten. However, this past trip I only paid one way even though I reserved online for round trip - when I called to cancel they had no record of my pickup. I would have been forgotten by JUTA had I not decided to go private.
-
ohhhhhh, you know what, i do that a lot; if they don't have the round-trip payment they think I might not follow through on the return trip w/out confirming -- makes perfect sense, thanks! it's kind of a moot point in my case though, cause regardless ah what, i always confirm everything anyway. lol. :D

I used Clives for the first time my last trip and I had a FANTASTIC experience. On my way back to the airport from Negril, Hidden Paradise hotel noticed that I left my baby's diaper bag in the front lobby while I was checking out. The hotel contacted the driver when we were about 10 minutes away from the airport to let me know, I almost had a heart attack! I doubted they sold formula and diapers at the airport!! Well Clive's offered to send another driver to pick up the bag at the hotel, and drop it off to me at the airport free of charge. He must have sped the whole way to get it to me because he was pulling up to the airport in no time. Highly recommend using them!!
