Is there anyone on the board that can tell me anything about Summerset Village? They are giving me a really good offer but I just want to make sure about it and was hoping someone who has been there could tell me about it.

I have never stayed there only walked past it.I have only read positive trip reports about the place nothing to be worried about.
I would try it if I was not taking my children.I like to know where I am staying with them coming along.
I hear it is ok there.Hopefully a few boardies will chip in as I know a few have stayed
Tic, have you pulled the trigger?
ohhhh Tic....please say you pulled the trigger!
Hubby and I stayed at Summerset Village 7 times, from 1990 until 1997. Back then it was a really great place but now it just looks sad. We stopped by last March and the only person we saw was Ms. Campbell who works in the office. We walked over to the restaurant to get a drink and didn't see a single person. We heard that mostly Europeans stay there now but we did not see any guests. I also know that there is no security and I don't think I'd feel safe at night. I would rather pay a little more and feel safe. But that's just my opinion.
Hmmm..yes, there are good reviews at TA, even one from this year, but there being little or no security would be a major concern.
mi old cottage backed up to this resort and you don't have to worry about security......very safe
security issues mainly are at the beach resorts........not usually up on the Cliffs........
wi take care of our own on the Cliffs......dem tiefs would stand out and not be welcomed on da Cliffs
if you looking for sumthin private without a lot of other tourist around.....this is the ticket.....
the only thing with Summerset Villlage is it's a likkle bit of a walk from the main road (West End Road) where the route taxis drop you off......
otherwise the place is nice and charming.........
the owners are way up there in years and looking to sell these days......
but they take care of their property and have for years
this is slow season so there are a lot of deals to be had right now in Negril.........
Cool Runnings, Marko
Thanks for the info, Marko. Yes, theirs is the best rate I have been offered so far for a room with ac, and I do like the fact that they do have a pool there. If security isn't an issue, then more than likely when I know what exact dates I can go, I might end up pulling the trigger on that.
As far as a walk goes, is it shorter or about the same length or longer than it is for Seastar to the main road? Just using that as a frame of reference...
The walk from Summerset Village to Westend Road is about the same as from Seastar Inn.
Did you pull the trigger, Tic?
Thanks for the info.
I'm going nuts here.....what trigger? LOL
Just for the record, Summerset Lane has been greatly "cleaned up" since '97. It was a bit "wild west" there for a while but now its a really nice neighborhood. I've only seen the outside of SV but the grounds look like they are well kept - the property does have a gate. Not sure what else you want/need for security. I know a few people who live on that lane. Its quiet and has a nice "local" and community feel.
Thank you, I am looking for something with a feel like that. :)
Well, I'm going to send an email to Summerset letting them know I am interested in roughly November..won't know more until more time goes by and I continue to heal and hear what the dentist says, but I hope I have my teeth by the end of the year at the very latest.
Tic had a dealio for NBCC for her tribe of 5 for 150/night over new years. Everyone but Jesus told her it was a good deal and she couldn't do better, but.......she's Tic. In the end...she was worried about the pool, ffs. I am betting that dealio has gone the way of the Dodo....
Tic, tell us you pulled the trigger and booked NBCC.....
I hang out and stay in that summerset neighborhood-pretty safe place...AS far as summerset village, last time I went on the grounds with a friend was a couple of years ago and yes, it was little worn down and rough around the edges..But was ok..I'd stay there if you get a good rate and its a short walk to west end road and near (walking distance)lots of cool places (as Marko pointed out)
Run down a bit is perfectly okay, as long as I have a clean bed without too many lumps in it and an ac to cool me down at night, I'm good to go. I already heard back from the management about it, so that is a good sign that they are prompt in getting back with folks. If the street length to the main road is about the same distance as Seastar is to the main road, well I can handle that just fine since I have stayed at Seastar twice and enjoyed walking down the road in a relatively friendly neighborhood. Now if only I could grab that remote control from the movie "Flick" with Adam Sandler in it, then I would fast forward through this slow process and get to the time when I can go...
