Hey Boardies,
Just want to give you a heads up that American Airlines has done some schedule changes to their flights (not from all locations), so check and double check and triple check your flights way in advance.

think JetBlue has changed their flights from Orlando to MoBay from like 7:30AM till like 1:30PM for April.......
could of sworn the flights for April were leaving at 7:30AM.....pretty sure mi right
which is a good thing since getting to Orlando from Tampa is a pain in the ass for an early morning flight......
or having to get a hotel room for the night before........so it saves money with the switch.......
and mi don't get how mi paid $240 with 2 bags on Spirit from Tampa to MoBay last month and now the flights are double?

Great advice. They completely changed my return flights to earlier in the day for my flights last week but did notify me. I didn't like the change but figured I'd lose the seats I wanted if I changed to later flights. The flights I was originally scheduled to be on were completely shifted to the new, earlier time slots :-( In the past they'd notify me even if the flight time changed by a minute... I'm serious. The one time they didn't send me a notice, I learned to check almost daily since as my departure time approaches. I just happened to check the itinerary. Had I not checked, I would have been arriving at the airport to check in as my flight was taking off!!! Yikes. That would not have been a pleasant surprise.
I should probably add, this will probably be more common in the future w/ AA due to the cutbacks they announced a few weeks ago. My best guess is the flight times are being set to make the best use of crew time since they'll be cutting 20% of their flight crews. It stinks.
Marko... flights double. Gas price increases - now & anticipated in the future - might be behind the increased fare.

Tell me about it. Got a notice 6 weeks ago - AA cancelled a flight I've been taking back to the states for what, 15 years? That 3:52pm. Bumba. Now my return flight is at 12:30pm. Lots of hours before I am used to leaving Negril...
Yep, Marko you are right
I got an email and a call (Jet Blue actually calls you to make sure you know about the change) yesterday saying that my 7:30 am flight (which I was REALLY excited about since it would be landing at 8:30) has now been changed to a 1:30pm flight which just messed up my plans but hey, at least I hadnt already booked the park, stay and fly deal that I was going to do, so now we will just drive over that morning....oh well....but hey, maybe they will change it again back to early morning. I was super stoked about getting in early, we were even going to use that as an excuse to hit Rockland Bird Sanctuary before heading to Negril, but now if we are not landing until 2:30pm we might as well just head straight to Negril since it will be Saturday and we want to get check into SeaStar and relaxed enough before the party begins!
Marko, I have been looking at April flights, especially MID-April - they are high - because of the Easter holiday... 4-5 months ago those same flights were $200 less.
One good thing about the change is that I do not have to change planes...but do have to change my seat assignments. The flight that leaves from BWI(Baltimore, MD) stops in MIA and then continues on to MBJ.
American has also increased there checked baggage fees by $10.
I am just thankful that #1 I checked and #2 I don't have any drastic changes....praying that there are no more changes!!!
Thank-you Luves, our departing flight has changed. Thank-you so much for the heads up! I will be seeing you on the rock.~
No problem Jim-Donna!! see you pond di rock!!!

That's the one. It sure spoils those last few hours in Negril. That's been my preferred flight, too. I was NOT happy w/ the change & was very concerned that the connection time was cutting it close. Even with the slow lines (as in VERY, VERY) in immigration, I still had time to make my flight for the last leg. I won't be purposely booking that flight in the future. Not fun to lose those last hours & rush around in the a.m. Plus, I don't get to do my a.m. run if I have to be ready to head to the airport at 9 a.m.
Yvonne, yup that was a HUGE bummer. I was prepared to go to battle and use up all my international minutes - then I looked at their schedule. The latest flight out was that 12:30 flight. And, to throw salt into the wound, they changed the time of my flight to SFO from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Now, not only do I have to use up valuable morning time (I usually swim, finish packing and bring my house stuff to storage AND go out for breakfast) BUT I have an extra hour layover in that skanky airport. Thank god for the Admirals Club and their free effin wifi. Now, there is a 4:30 flight to SFO but one never knows what's going to happen at Customs in Miami - so I opted for the free WiFi and pretzels.
Just a note to folks flying on American during their "hard times" (break out the tiniest violin, will ya?) - if you are planning on using frequent flyer miles be prepared for the royal screwing. AA always had the most liberal policies and lowest mileage counts for using miles - also the most seats and least blackout dates. Different story now, I'll bet on that. Expect way fewer mileage seats, especially in First and Business to be available. Personally, when I book for next winter I'm going to be doing four months out now as opposed to three (last year) or two (the year before).
Already ran into that problem with the American Airlines frequent flier miles. I used to be able to book decent flights for 12,500 miles each way, even the occasional NONSTOP, then it was 17,500 miles but in the last 2 weeks it has gotten crazy!! In Dec. 2011, I had a normal flight to NY via Miami for 17,500 miles plus tax ($56) & even was able to do a last minute change right before I left JA with no extra charges. Now if I want to use my miles, I have to take THREE planes instead of two and spend the night in Dallas or Memphis airports to arrive in NY as much as 24 hours later than when I leave Montego Bay. All of that to save $100 to $150??? Even looking 6 to 10 months ahead is not any better. I risk losing my title as Queen of the Cheap Flights to Paradise...

Sweet Sue - I'm concerned too but can't even start looking until 4 months out, my calendar for work needs to be more finalized. I saw that last year - had to really work it to get just one stop (no such thing as a non-stop from SFO) and I'm a firm believer in never flying with more than one stop but might have to this year, who knows....
I do know I managed to get the one stop in Miami and use 60,000 miles for a First Class ticket when I booked last summer. We shall see how it goes this year...I'm hoarding those miles just in case...
Oh, and I might be in the running with you on the Queen of the cheap flight - I haven't "paid" for a flight to JA in over 10 years, probably close to 15...
Hmmm, almost an epidemic, LOL. I rec'd notice about a flight change to an earlier departure. I looked online, they are still showing the original flight (at greatly boosted fare, lol). I called Airtran, told them I see the flight and I don't want the change - they put my reservation back onto the later flight ☺ Try that?
Just checked the AA site... in the summer it looks like only 2 flights daily to Miami... 11:45 a.m. & 2:55 p.m. Used to be 5, if memory serves me (early a.m., one late afternoon, one early evening). The increased demand will drive the prices up & make connecting flights problematic for many. Sigh...
Just checked again booking w/ FF miles & the 7 a.m. flight showed up. It wasn't an option under regular booking, unless it was on another page. Still... increased demand.
Had a flight change two years ago...from non-stop to one stop! Talk about frustrating! Everytime I check flights, the price has gone up. I am so thankful now I jumped the gun, or we may not be going!
AA changed the flight times on our non-stop from Dallas in May. Not a big deal...depart 30 mins to an hour earlier there and back. The kicker is the current price for seats on our flight - $1,029 per ticket. Glad we bought our tix last month.
AA just changed our flight times too. At least we arrive in MoBay an hour earlier:D
same here...but we also leave MBJ an hour earlier now :(
glad to know mi not loosing it yet.......ha ha
that is pretty wild how they can change nonstop flights like that.........
can't imagine how many people they upset when they do something like that......
there must have been some major JetBlue executives that had to okay that move........
probably because they saw bookings were way down with a 7:30AM flight like that......

ugh.......April is so poplular for Jamaica........and for the Caribbean.......
people up North don't want to be around during Mud Season and melting snow chit........
and us in the South can't wait any longer for the HOT weather.....
plus after the 15th a lot of places in Jamaica put in place their low season rates.......

Rastagirl777 - I think you got me beat! HAIL TO THE QUEEN!! Call me Princess...I have paid but never the prices I see other folks shelling out. Partially due to air miles, partially due to being creative with booking flights. Last time I went to JA, my round trip cab fares to the airport exceeded the cost of my RT airfare.
p.s. Maybe you could share a few tips?

"Maybe you could share a few tips?"
Tip #1: Fly for a living. Aside from my time in JA, I'm on an airplane at least once a month for work.
Tip #2: GET the credit card - charge everything on it and pay it all off every month. Again, this works for my business really well. The 1 mile pre $1 dollar of purchase = 60,000 miles in one year sometimes.
Absolutely. My summer ticket last year... FF miles. This summer, too. The only difference is this year will be 1st class. Put all my house updates in 2010 on my card. That helped w/ my summer 2011 ticket. I always sign up for the 1.5 miles for every $1 spent promotions. Late last year I was doing some serious spending so that's covering my 1st class fare this summer w/ close to 30K miles left over. I literally charge everything I can to my AA CC... condo fees, car & homeowner insurance, cell phone, house phone, cable, internet, (bundled), all day to day pruchases. About the only time I use cash is in JA & when I buy frozen yogurt .
Well - I can't fly for this job but I got the second one down pat - been doing that for years. Almost all my bills go through the card & earn me miles. Every car repair, every electric bill, every trip to the gas pump... MILES MILES MILES :)
So most times, my airfare isn't bad at all. But it will get to be more of a challenge with the restrictions getting tighter on how you can put those miles to work... but I am not complaining. I am a fortunate one. Some folks can't get down here once a year, much less 3 or 4 times...

You don't have to be rich to do this - its about making choices & being creative helps. I work with people who make less than me and spend more on their monthly car payment than I do on a round trip flight to JA. We all make choices and this is what I choose to do.....

EXACTLY Sweet Sue - since a lot of my expenses on that card are for business I don't ever go into hock - that card gets paid off in full faithfully each month. I also sign up for the bonus promotions both with the card and with AA. I do the same with my Amex card but with Delta - that's how I flew the god-kid down first class on her first trip.
No doubt the mileage needed to fly in general is going to go up on AA and no doubt the number of FF seats per flight is going to go down. In anticipation of this I am booking about a month earlier this year for my trip in November.
