I recently heard 23-7 is no more hope this is not true
Sadly it is true. Been gone for over a year now. Some bad craziness went down, search the old board for the info.
Sad but true. Loved the place and I miss it.
Couldnt find it on old board, what went on?
Mrs. Stuck it will not be talked about on here as a respect issue it came up people asking on the old boards. Google and you will find a lot of info sources. I never got a chance to meet him but I hear it was a great place and he was known as a great man to many.
Ok found it,and a new chat board.
There are several Negril related message boards out there. This one just has far less BS on it.
It means i ran across one i havent found before.
Mrs.Stuck and others I would just offer my experience in saying tread carefully when finding new boards do not just feel as comfortable as you are here. I was / am still a member before being active here on others and there is some massive drama that occurs on some others and sometimes you slit your own neck by offering out thoughts and experiences or opinions. Some are good some are a drama pit. Lay low until you know which type you are on, none I have found are like negril.com.
LMAO - for heavens sake ppl, it's just an internet bulletin board! I'm on 4-5 different ones about jamaica, each one has its' own fun and flavor. It's not that deep, it's not like you're deciding what school to send your kids to - it's just online chat with ppl you mostly don't even know IRL!
Enjoy them all, mrs. stuck...!
MissBlue...it's great that you can feel that way & take the comments in stride...but, unfortunately there are a lot of boards that allow horribly inaccurate information, condone rumor & speculation and allow the abuse of others.
We are trying to stop our children from cyber bullying....but so many adults seem to think it's okay to ridicule & use these boards to bash...and I think this is what ShellyK is referring.
This can & does hurt those that are the subject of the abuse, inaccurate information, rumors & speculation. I've seen the look on too many Jamaicans faces when they've had to read some of the comments on many of these boards!
Not everyone can treat nasty comments as 'water off a ducks back'.
well - my take on that is this - ALL internet bb's, regardless of the topic or subject matter, have that stuff going on. All of them. just in slightly different ways. It's just the nature of the beast when it comes to anonymous information-sharing.
so yes, it is all taken in stride -- just as IRL there are always some ppl who aren't nice, the same is true online. in any given forum there's mostly good folks who are well-intentioned and speak from their hearts - and there also can be some badmind folks, and/or some mean & nasty folks, and/or some who are just altogether nuts..... mostly true info, some misinformation even from those who mean well but just really don't know - some outright wrong information, and even some that is maliciously-intentioned ..... that's just life, on or off the internet. There's no possible way to separate ALL the wheat from the chaff, when it comes to what one reads on a bulletin board -- until one sees for themself, in person, what's true and what's not.
i personally think it's a foolish, and maybe even dangerous, habit to believe unconditionally in everything one reads on the net - good OR bad. I've seen the look on MANY people's faces, not solely jamaicans -- when they are the subject of internet badmindedness or falsity. It's part and parcel of what all people have to deal with, now that the internet bulletin boards are part of our reality. ppl cannot take every comment made to heart, or take it so personally like it is an 'attack" -- most times it's not, and there's just no need to get all bent out of shape, or give energy to, some stranger's dumb, or uneducated, or misinformed, or even malicious - comments in a 'room' that is not even 'real'.
What some somebody who doesn't even know me has to say, no matter how objectionable i might find it to be - really just doesn't matter in my actual daily life. *shrug*
Negril.com is a Jamaican business with Jamaican employees that pays Jamaican taxes and was created to promote Negril and Jamaica. The objective of the way the board/forum is operated on Negril.com is to provide for visitors the best, most accurate and useful information on the internet. To this end, we do try to limit the "outright wrong information" as well as speculation and rumors that does no one any possible good. This has the benefit for our board of limiting the "drama" that can occur on other boards.
While some other boards do allow abuse or falsity toward others and expect the subjects of this abuse and falsity to deal with it, we take a different approach. At Negril.com we see it as our responsibility to provide a comfortable and safe destination on the internet to gain information about Negril and Jamaica. No one is allowed to use our services to abuse or make false statements against others. In legalese this is known as libel. We take libel seriously and will not allow it on Negril.com.
Rob, IMHO you do a great job! That's what I meant by less BS. Thanks for all you do.
Bless...
Ed
All internet boards/forums on all different subjects (on Negril alone I know of 6 and I'm sure there are many more) you are going to get something different from each one. Each forum on each board has a community that is interested in different things, asks about different things and gets feedback on different things. Perspective-wise it is interesting what you'll see on each one and each is very different and attracts different people. Some specialize more in the hotel/AI/Tourist realm - more geared to a first time visitor, some, like this one, attract travelers of all different types and tastes and with information on a wider variety of everything "Negril" - some are more geared towards residents and long time/long term visitors.
So if you cannot get an answer to a specific question on one board, chances are you'll get it on another. But when it comes to personal issues regarding business people in Negril you must be very careful about what your read and how you interpret it - posts of this nature are threaded with individuals personal perceptions and agendas.
As has been stated, falling hook line and sinker for every post on every board is probably not a wise idea. But I've found there's more good information out there than bad, and helpful personal experience in posters on all the boards I enjoy.
I agree with Ras Walleye!
I for one am very grateful and appreciative of this site and all that it offers or doesnt offer me ;)
Thanks Rob! And Lisa! and any and everyone else involved!
I said i ran across a new one to me(I didnt say i ran across THE one)I simply came across one Ive never seen.Thats all!
Raw nerve!! I think it's not (polically correct) to mention other boards on here......
the internet is a huge place and there's plenty for everyone - what does it matter if that is mentioned?
I for one am thankful for this board! The people are so very nice, and helpful to newbies like me! I love it!
I didn't and wouldn't say a name....i said a site,a board.No harm or disrespect intended.
Why not? I don't think it is appropriate to mention or gear people to a specific board, but stating you found the answer to your question on ANOTHER board - I do not agree that that's "politically incorrect".
I'm with Miss Blue, agreeing 1000% with all her posts above. Ditto, ditto and ditto.
Boards/Forums that promote abuse, falsity and libel will not be promoted on Negril.com. It has nothing to do with being "politically incorrect", libel is illegal. It is the law, not anything "politically" based.
right - but nobody was doing that. someone said they found another board. and that's all. no 'promoting' and no names mentioned.... nothing libelous there....
MissBlue - agreed... and no one will be doing that on Negril.com...
I just wanted to clarify for those involved...
