Transportation option around Negril

here's some great info I found this week on Tripadvisor:

Beach pick-up to beach drop-off: $1US per person

West end pick-up to West end drop-off: $1US per person

Beach pick-up to West end drop-off or vice versa: $2US per person

You call to set up the pick-up time - Sienna suggests that an hour's notice would be ideal, considering that the driver could be anywhere, but one can take their chances on less of wait.

The service is for anyone - whether you're new to town or repeat visitors who just aren't comfortable with route taxis or night travel with unknown drivers."

It is my understanding that you call them and they pick you up at your Hotel and same for the return. They pick you up wherever you are.

The same fare for everyone? NO WAY! :D

Agree with Brasi. As long as it is reasonable and there is no haggling and we all pay the same. Hard to believe until someone actually confirms they have used the service.

How old is that post on TA? Sienna left Jamaica a long time ago...

Aw heck, knew this was too good to be true

Last time something came up about Sienna on this board I confirmed with her that she was running her business from the states and had local drivers. My driver at that time was driving for her. I will email her to see if this is still the case.

Would LOVE to see this as an option, especially since this trip will be a bunch of firsts for us:
1st time HIRING a ride to Negril(always was comped w/ Couples)
1st time changing money .....AND
1st time fighting the sand gravity enough to EXPLORE all of Negril.......an easy to catch "Dollar Ride" would kick butt!!;)

If this is an option...and the word gets out....plenty of business out there to be had!! I hope that it is up and running....great idea IMHO.

No one could possibly break even, let alone make money at a $1 US a ride. I do not believe it.

I just got off the phone with Sienna. She is doing well and still running the business from the States. She confirmed that YES, this is a current promotion and to call Barry for a ride. She stressed that it must be a pre-arranged ride because he might not always be close by. The program began as a way for new people to get used to getting out and about in a safe manner but can be used by anyone. Just give Barry a call to arrange a pick-up. Sienna was back on the island last summer and will be back again this summer as well. As some of you may know, she came back to the states to care for her ailing mother. Her mother is doing well and so is Sienna.

great to hear that confirmation BrenJaLee. The posts on thread "restaurant transportation protocol" appeared Feb. 28th and Feb. 29th from two different members. I had just returned from my first trip to Negril on Feb. 26th - would have been great to know while there; although, I took the plunge and did well, no longer a virgin "newbie"!
I agree that the price could be $2 a shot and $4 in the evening and still be a very reasonable, and welcome, well used service...particularly for door to door!
Only problem is, if there's just one guy doing it, it could get very busy and backed up as the word spreads. If he's got a van though, he could do several pick up and drop offs along the line, and I'm sure no one would mind, in fact, may be part of the fun!

I also heard from Sienna by email and the information in the original post is correct.
Money can be made if the volume is there. And I hope people will tip. I plan to give Barry a try in April.

Lisapat-my husband and I are couples converts too. First non all inclusive was in Dec 2011. A few bumps in the road being a "newbie" at non all inclusive but it went well and will probably not go back to couples again. Found it much cheaper which affords us to stay longer.

Has anyone tried this yet?

I have two questions. What is the load capacity of the vehicle and is this day and night or just during the day???

This is still correct info. Don't know about Sienna but the fares are right.
