What happened to "For Real" and where did Sammy go?
For Real is now Sandy Haven. The new bartenders are Linton and Andre from Aqua.

Wow! Nice to see photos of Sandy Haven (For Real). The bar looks awfully familiar. Negrilonestop has new photos of Sandy Haven. Looks nice.
They took the tree out? Now it just looks like any other bar on the beach. That kinda sucks! Lots of memories for lots of people. But I guess the only thing certain in life is change!
I bet the prices changed from what they were at For Real too. lol
Great to see Linton & Andre there!
Price for Red Stripe...according to PoolGuy...was 300j...
I saw Sammy a couple of weeks ago..not quite sure what he is up to..I don't think he is selling on the beach at the moment..Sandy Haven is stunning..top shelf rooms..nicest rooms I have seen on the beach
Maybe it's just me.......but, soaking tubs. Took a tour w/ the "owner" and was asked not to take any pictures. Yeah, onestop was there at the same time.....they were taking plenty.......guess I need to be a promoter! They've done a nice job fixing up the place, just not sure if it's gonna work for the cost of the stay. Maybe it's just me.......but, not allowed to have a fridge either....lol!! I'll behave now before I'm deleted.......
Ooops.......2 beers and 1 soda = 900J. Sammy has been around Sun Beach every so often the last couple of months.
Someone told me Sammy is now set up at Bull Bay or somewhere outside of town. A stone wall at my knees when I belly up to a bar is not really my taste. I won't rag on the place though as I guess they will tend to carve out their niche with their kind of clientele that they hope to attract to the beach who can afford their prices. I doubt that I will be one of them though. I can come to Jamaica twice for what a week's stay there including food and bar bill would be. WHo I bet is mourning more so though are those CO CO LA Palm folks who had it all figured out, stay at CO CO ,drink and hang out at FOR REAL...NOW what you gonna do????
But i must say this....I met that bartender just one day and he impressed the hell outta me. One of the best I have met, they have a good man there.
Misti, WOW how did you ever figure out the CCLP/For Real connection!?
I know that was absolutely true for my many stays at CCLP!! LOL
Awww...no worries...just slip one property past Sandy Haven to Sun Beach...200J Red Stripe there...:)
I'm curious on this one. They say rooms have a "customized mini bar" and "customized coffee bar". I guess when I read that I assumed the mini bar meant a fridge that they stock with stuff you'd have to pay out the nose for but that it would also have room for your own personal items. Does this mean there is NOT a fridge in the room at all that you can put your own things in? If so, they really should make that more clear in their promotion. I for one would have assumed there was a fridge available for my own things and would be pretty upset getting there and not having one (after paying those prices).
When they say mini-bar, I think they mean wine cooler. Because that's what is in the room. They are discouraging you from having food in the room. I don't think the wine cooler comes stocked for free....lol.
Really miss the old For Real, this place is too classy for us. Definately need a ref. and who needs a soaking tub??? You have the ocean. lol
What about Sun Beach? Redstripe is 200j (i think) Redstripe lite 250j
Firefly
I know it wasn't just about the Red Stripes but by not being overpriced, folks would come and stay awhile. Often a mix of tourist & local. And nobody puttin' on airs because they could afford some fancy drink with an umbrella in it. The place had it's regulars and good times were had (mostly at the old bar - haven't spent as much time there lately). Maybe that too has changed with the new construction - but it seemed the logical choice for those who want to carry on without major relocation...
$300 is still a reasoable price for a beer at a bar! Aqua seemed to have no problem keeping there bar going and there were not any cheap drinks there. Like some one said its not all about cheap drinks.
Okay, I'll play...I'm pretty sure I have a clue as I hung out there all year long for quite a few years & for probably a similar reason, Misti...the suggestion of Sun Beach is made only since we can no longer go to the For Real bar & many people that hung out at For Real are now there (sadly not Maureen & Robert)...the beer priced is mentioned because many also stopped by there for the cheap beer...which was advertised daily on the beach as lower priced & one of the many reasons that you "couldn't get a seat at my own bar".
Absolutely...300J is not unusual...Aqua had mix of high end & lower priced drinks...atmosphere CAN be everything!!!
Wow bummer. Having the tree in the bar made it unique. Also too bad about the price of Red Stripe - used to be one of the cheapest places on the beach!

Thank you. You made my point - and as usual, better than I could have. :)
Actually for me the price of the Red Stripe is irrelevant 'cuz I don't drink them much - it's more about the people.

Looks nice.
Well - I will give the new Sandy Haven bar a try - because it's in my 'hood. I predict it will be busy next winter.
However, I did go to Sun Beach quite a bit last trip - and I like the place - not For Real though.
From what I heard, the old bar, tree included, had to go because they were both ready to fall down and the old tree was infested with some kind of bugs.
One more thought on the For Real bar - it was located in a 'special spot' - a nexus where karmic force fields merge - it was like that when it was Dr. Bills too. It's just a special spot where possibilities are amplified - intersections occur, things happen - people are happy.
I wish I coulda got my hands on the flamingo that used to sit on top of the bar :)
Sea Splash is a cool place to hang out too, if you can get by the crappy playlist they have there.
That sure was a beautiful description of the vibe there.
Kahuna I agree with Seasplash being a great place to hang, I thought the playlist was great lots of old reggae music, maybe except some nights when the requests were off on a tangent.
i really enjoyed spending my days hanging out at for real good vibes over there, and good people. for real and sun beach are usually my go to beach bars i enjoyed playing dominos with the bartenders and locals. they even let me plug my ipod into their sound system! i herd sandy beach is super nice and very expensive, im guessing you can't lounge on their chairs if your not staying at the hotel? guess ill be swinging away on the hanging lawn chair then
In the 18 days I just spent on the beach I did not see 1 person laying on a lounger at Sandy Haven. It was like they had no business at all. I did see a person at the bar once or twice otherwise it looked dead. That being said, I also noticed the beach was much quieter this year than compared to the same time last year. :(
If Linton from Aqua is there then I have to admit I will stop by Sandy Haven when in Negril next just to say hi and get a Linton's Special. :)
And there were those of us who just loved For Real's Beachfront rooms! Can't see paying Sandy Haven's prices.
Poolguywindsor, are you speaking of Sea Splash a year ago or recently? Haven't been there since last spring.
Dconkle....this thread was started last year & PG's comments were from March/2012. :)
We stopped and paid a visit to Linton...........always loved his hospitality at Aqua. My friend ordered at Jack and coke...........cost $9 OUCH. I do have to say the property does look very nice
The congregation might also want to check TA about two very interesting theft incidents that happened there recently as well. Not good for such an upscale property. AT ALL.
