I read they have a VIP area at the airport in Mobay ?

well when Air J was flying us from OHare, we always went for it on the way back...it was great free snacks, beer, booze...fat big chairs....private boarding time, last minute .......
Two important questions , can ya smoke in there and how much is the cost.??
The AA VIP area has been gone for a couple of years now. Used to be my refuge but, since remodeling, it's gone.
I think a day pass was about $30 pp when we were there. Kids were half price and have their own play area. In my opinion, it is way worth it! Luckily, we got a waive on the fees, because my boyfriend used his Diner's club card to get us access. We don't smoke, but I don't recall seeing any designated smoking rooms, so I am not sure if they even offer those types of rooms. There definitely was no smoking in the main areas we were in. Oh and unless it has changed, I believe it was only open during daytime hours, so that might affect your needs if your flight is a night flight.
Club Mobay, $30 buffet food open bar showers, and vip checkin, good deal for sure!
showers are kinda cool if you go straight from the beach and sea to the airport.
I HIGHLY recommend it. We have done it the last 2 trips and it is worth every penny. It is $30 per person but if you have at least 6 people it is $25. There are showers, clean restrooms, a business center, free drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and free snacks. You can even get a massage if you like.
If you don't want to eat the free sandwiches and snacks they provide you can order from Bobsled Cafe and they will deliver it to you in your room. (This is not free)
They watch your flight for you and will come get you when it is time to go. Both times our flights were running late and they came to inform us and told us they would be back when we needed to leave. It is nice to not have to worry.
There are a few different large rooms with large flat screen tv's, couches to lay on and chairs with ottomans. Last trip there were 6 of us and they gave us an entire room for just us to hang out.
They put you in a seperate line and rush you through customs. It was quick and painless both times. I think from the time we arrived at the airport and checked in, customs, etc. We were in the room within 30 minutes.
Let me see if I can upload a pic... I'm a newb here :)

JnJ,
Did you pre-book this, or can you purchase upon arrival at the airport? The website link has a booking tab that just shows "coming soon" when you click on it. It also doesn't indicate what hours it is open. Didn't see a phone # either.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
It is really really quite nice. You know the cost now, but here was my problem. I got there really really early with the intent of using it for a while. BUT Delta does not staff the front counter until a certain hour, and by the time I got all checked in and ready to use the lounge I only had one hour before flight time, and that will always be my problem as i have to go out on the first thing smoking. Now, if I get bumped, then a longer stay, it would be well worth it.
That's a
personal problem. That aside, it is VERY VERY nice, and I highly recommend it.
Oh one more thing, if you are first class on one of their partner airlines (of which DELTA is NOT), then you do not have to pay to go in at all, it is FREE for you.
I also understand that you can buy the pass at some of the bigger resorts in Negril like Beaches. I have a friend traveling with her family next week and they purchased by phone. Apparently they only sell "x" number of passes during a specific time frame so it's probably best to purchase in advance if you are traveling on a weekend.
Melody,
We pre-booked through our hotel the first time. Second time we just used the booth at the airport. It only took 2 minutes
for us to get paid and signed in. Both trips were during Summer and did not have any issue with availability.
I don't remember seeing a booth or sign at the airport - is it before, or at security? I've only been through once and it was pretty busy. I guess I could ask at our check in desk. Unfortunately, it'll probably be at least a year away...
Thanks!
After you check in your bags. Right before you walk through security.
Oops, I made a mistake in my earlier post. My bf read my post and says he actually used an Amex Plat card (not a Diner's card) to gain free access to the club. I know if you are a member of Priorty Pass, you can also gain free access to the lounge, as well as First or Biz class passengers. Here are some photos of the club, including the Pickney Place (the kids sound proof play area):

I can't believe I did not know this existed, although it makes it feel better that rasta stan didnt either.
I will be doing this on all future trips on departure day I would pay 3 times that, as usually I just sit at the airport and cry for hours with kleenex's in hand I get so defeated by that limbo. Not yet home yet with family but wasting time on the island not out relaxing.
shellyk it definitely helps with the in between feelings. I am anxious and ready to be home with our son but extremely depressed to be leaving.
Not having to wait in all the lines is reason enough for me but I definitely appreciate being in the room and all it has to offer for us. I have never been one to sit still and comfortably for very long. :)
Looking forward to this! Had no idea it existed.
Thank you all for the info and photos, your the best.:o
When there last month, the lineup was 3/4 of the length of the lobby, between checking our bags & the entrance to security. Would we still have to wait in that line, or could we walk past it to the purchase kiosk?
On the VIP Attractions website, it says one of the perks is "fast track access through the airport" For those of you who have used it, what did that entail, exactly?
They have a kiosk to the left of the security entrance as you are walking towards it. You can walk right up to it bypassing the lines that start outside of the door. They then have a separate security line that they will take you to so that you don't have to go into the "coral" inside. The cost last week was $35.00 and the lounge closed at 10.00 on Saturday night.
Wow, that would be fantastic to bypass that line and corral before security - we must have been in line for at least 1/2 hr before even getting to the corral. Would be wonderful! I like to do a bit of last minute shopping at the airport, can you come and go from Club Mobay?
Yes you can. It is in between Bobsled Cafe, The smoking lounge/bar (forgot the name) and Margaritaville. Right next to that Red Stripe shop.
back in the day, that is what we did, check in EARLY, get boarding pass, hit Air J lounge, leave carry on's there, head up to High Lites Bar above the airport have a few drinks, inhale a couple of times, then head back for first boarding call....GREAT way to leave, relaxed............sleep all the way home......
Thanks to you AWESOME folks on the board, I am treating myself to the Club MoBay. TOTALLY worth it! Got here & paid at the airport for the Club ticket, got put right at the front of the line & for security and all that, came on thru the airport to the Club MoBay & first thing I did was take a nice HOT shower! Oh boy can you imagine spending some of the waiting time at the airport having a nice shower?
Then I strolled on into the lounge area, having a sandwich, muffin and coffee. This is da life, for real! Looks like they call out over the intercom for flight departures.
This is a different area than was posted by others, looks like they have some private rooms for larger parties. Since it's just me by myself, I'm glad to be in the lounge with other folks... listen to the Germans & see how much German I still remember, LOL!
I'd highly recommend the Club MoBay to anyone. Just to not have to stand in line for a hour is worth it by itself, but the food, drinks, showers.... very cool!
I just booked Club Mobay on Expedia. They are offering $5 off, so it was under $29 each incl taxes & fees.
I'm travelling with a serious smoker so I emailed Club Mobay (via their website) inquiring about smoking. Here's the reply:
"The airport has the VIBES Smoking lounge located at Gate 9, right next door
to our lounge entrance. Usually they would expect purchases to be made once
inside, however with your Club Mobay ticket, you can sit inside free of
charge.
This is the only designated smoking area in the departures terminal."
Sounds like it will be pretty quick and easy to go for a smoke, without having to buy anything additional. I'm looking forward to trying the lounge. Our flight is scheduled just before 2 pm on a Saturday. Even though not yet high season, I imagine lines will be there and nice to avoid...plus all the other perks!
Expedited thru, free alcohol, snack food, etc. I think I might just do this. The problem is I am typically super hung over from over doing it the night before and don't even want to smell alcohol.
Atta boy booger. lol
We've used it twice and thought it was worth the $$. Got through security and customs super fast. The free food is nothing to get excited about - some finger sandwiches, chips, etc. but I think they will allow you to order from the Margaritaville menu and deliver it to you. The drinks are free and flowing and they also have a masseuse. Will continue to use this option.
sounds good to me! Except I usually really cut it close getting to the airport since I want to spend every last minute I can at the beach. So not sure I would get my$$$ worth. Then again bypassing lines would give me some lounge time I suppose. Booger, sometimes a drink or two is the ticket for curing a hangover.
There is a charge for the masseuse (other than tip of course), isn't there?
What kind of "finger sandwiches" do they have? Is there a limited amount? I figured it would be enough for me for lunch - maybe?
By the time we have our breakfast, get bags packed and out for pick up, we wouldn't have much beach time anyway, unless we get up really early....maybe go for one last early morning beach walk.
I was going to mention that about having a drink or two to get over a hangover....beer & clam for us Canadians...don't imagine there'll be clamato juice though.
The lounge was a great place to chill before the flight after being blind sided by being selected for secondary security screening. Passport and boarding pass yanked from my hand with no explanation and my remaining paperwork went all over the place. I lost my ticket for the lounge in that process and the staff at the lounge saw my wife's ticket after we explained what happened they let me in.
After that I was ready for a free rum or three and I only drink beer...lol
The access to Vibes for smoking was no problem with the lounge ticket.
Great place. It's worth the money, especially if there is a flight delay.
Hmmmm... We've been lucky I guess and never experienced bad line ups leaving MoBay. This next trip, we leave on Christmas Eve. I'm wondering if this might be worthwhile that day? Not sure how busy the airport will be for departures??
