Who else has a special appreciation for the rain in NEGRIL???

I love the sun and especially the ocean as much as anyone, but when in Negril, I also like the rain.

It's a different kind of rain than I'm used to because I come from Los Angeles, where it rarely rains. And when it does, it's usually associated with cold weather. In Negril, when it rains and it's still 80 degrees, that's something I'm not used to, and I rather like it. As long as the sun comes back soon, that is!

I've heard some weird thunder noises and seen some wild lightening in Negril. The best storm memory I have is when a few Seastar Inn yardies and I hung at the Westender Inn for a day in one of the oceanfront suites, and it was a HUGE storm that came in. We're talking thunder so loud it sounded like it originated right in front of us, and lightning striking through the sky, three or four huge bolts at a time.

I like the way you feel about the rain here. Ted and I love it because it waters our garden and the 400 gal tank catches the rainwater off the roof for use in the garden and for washing clothes. Nice to have because we have to truck in water since there is none in the water lines.

I love the rain. On our first reach pretty much everyday around one the sky would darken, the husband and I would look at each other and smile, grab our things and run back to our cottage. We'd open the shutters on all the windows as the rain began to fall, than lets just say, things got a little X rated :) than we'd lay in bad napping or I swear to god, watch I Carly, lol.
The rainiest day of our reach was the day we went to Mayfield falls, which was really an amazing experience for me for a lot of reasons. I just remember standing in the falls with the rain falling, looking at the forest around me and just BEING. I'm a small town girl, never thought I'd go anywhere special and there I was, standing in the rain in A rainforest. Very special for me.
It made/makes me so happy just to think of it.

We run for a drink and then to the hot tub (jaccuzzi). Nothing better than the cool rain on your head and the warm bubbly water on your body. I guess it's not something that most people do as we had the big hot tub all to ourselves.

Love the Liquid sunshine too!!! I like sitting in the hot tub with a cold drink while it rains!!!

I just have a special appreciation for rain period....

but yes...in Negril when it rains it is definately special. I love when it's overcast over the turquoise waters.

Of course, I love the sunshine, but that is not all that Jamaica has to give.

I love the rain which keeps Jamaica green and keeps the food we enjoy growing.

I love the rain for the possibility of rainbows - Jamaica is Rainbow Country.

I love walking in the rain in Jamaica - not like the rains here in Michigan. Most afternoons, one can just walk down (or up) the beach and walk out of the rain into sunshine.

I love the clouds, which make for beautiful sunsets. I love to spend a lazy afternoon watching the billowing cumulus clouds grow higher and higher and continuously change in shape. Clouds in the Caribbean are like no other.

We just got back from Negril last night. We had rain almost every day this trip but did not mind one tiny bit. It keeps everything looking nice and fresh. Although I could have done without the thunderstorm we had at the beginning of our trip. That was some fierce lightning!

Well, I'm not just a Negrilaholic, I'm a rainaholic too, let's just put it that way, lolol! Here are some pictures from one day sitting at Anny's (formerly Pilots), writing in my journal, sipping my soda, and watching the rain come down:

I love that feeling of being trapped by the rain... Whereever I happen to be is where I am gonna stay and hang out til the rain stops. Lots of great memories and new people met while waiting for the sun to come back.

I love getting rain at the yard as long as it's not too much.

One of the best feelings in the world (to me) is being in the ocean during one of those afternoon torrential downpours (the ones without the lightening). Air temp. drops about 10 -12 degrees, but the ocean temp. remains constant. It's like falling back in a huge hot tub! I always get some strange looks when people see me leaving the shelter of the local bar to jump in the ocean during one of these storms, but without fail, 5 or 10 minutes later (after making sure that I haven't been killed) out come the brave and curious to check it out. Always a highlight of my trip. Looking forward to a couple of good downpours in about three and a half weeks.

on the cliffs in a hut/cottage can be very romantic for a rainy day...........on the beach while on the move, we have attended
some great impromptu parties........reminds me of my young childhood going outside in the warm rain without a care in the world.......

Jamaica needs the rain badly......cant be a lush tropical island without it.......:)

Rain is great for watching the storm come in.Great for indoor activities for two.How it smells afterward.How the seas are usually calm afterward.How the beach people flock to the bars and forget to leave...

I love the rain in JA. Last trip one of our drivers told us we needed to come back during another month when it didn't rain. Husband and I looked at each other then replied to the driver, "But we love the rain!!!"

It's God's way of giving everything a break.

I mind it if it is every day in mid-March in Negril, like it was last week. The amount of rain was unreal. Worse than last June, during rainy season.

That said, it does keep things green, and the evenings last week, when it wasn't monsooning, were delightfully cool.

One of my favorite Negril memories comes from my very first visit. It was April of '99 and I was part of a group of about 40 for the wedding of my oldest and dearest friend. The day before the wedding, he and I had some time to ourselves so we decided to walk from Charela up to Cosmos for lunch. As we walked it began raining, not a gully washer but a good steady rain. We were in our swim wear and it was warm and pleasant. As we got to the section of beach with the big A/I's there was not a tourist in sight. Apparently as soon as the rain started they all ran inside. So without anyone to wait on, the beach staffs of 2 resorts started up a soccer game on the beach in the rain. We must have stood there for 20 minutes or so enjoying the game before we continued our journey. The rain stopped and we were dry soon after. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch, my first escovitch fish, and strolled back down the beach.

Yeah, I love the rain.

My wife and I walking down Long Bay,the rain comes on fast,we run into Tonys bar and have some Red Stripes and wait it out. Whats better than that?

A few more rainy pics..and I love being in the sea when it's raining..get that lovely warm water with a cooler layer on top..just as long as there is no lightning, I stay in the wata.
