Getting home and standing on Zion Hill
It's not Negril but it's only 6 miles away and very Peaceful .....
Stepping onto the beach with a cold Red Stripe in my hand, feeling the sand on my bare feet, meeting the locals. Everything slows down and the stress just disappears.
For me, it's being away from the office. The sun and fun is just a bonus, lol.

Most of all Jamaica reminds me of a time back in the day when family and friends were strong, we didn't really need all the hi tech thgs and the simple things were enough.
People visit one another and wanted to get to know one another to laugh and enjoy each others company. the vibes are very laidback. The live reggae, and care free way of life.
That's what keeps me coming back!
As soon as we land in Mo Bay, I am there. Relaxed and calm in a way I just don't feel at home with work and our busy lives... Even if the lines are long in the airport ~ it's all good for me, because I am in Jamaica. Walking out the door and being "hit" with the heat and rush of people. Alfred's smiling face has always been a part of that moment for me, so I know that on my next trip it will be so bittersweet. I love the ride to Negril, the beauty of the island and her people. Once in Negril, I stop long enough to drop off the luggage in the room and then grab a drink and go stand in the water. At that moment, all is right in the world. My pre and post symptoms seem to run together and only are cured when I am there.
It's the people mostly with a bit of the rest of it tossed in. All the best memories involve the good people we've met on the way! Some will be sorely missed!

For me its taking in the sights and sounds around me..
a lot of people are weary about walking around by themselves.. at night especially..
but i personally love walking down the beach at night.. listening to the waves crash as music from various bars play.. i also like that i don't get stopped by as many "hustlers" along the way.
another thing that i absolutely love is spending evenings on the cliffs at my grandmas house.. it grounds me in a way and we just kickback, relax. chat, and laugh, its a good time!
It's always good but I have learned a lot through the years. Now, as soon as I reach the airport and get checked in.....I also check out all my problems and get in vacation mode! Once I''m there, I know that I will soon be in my beloved Jamaica. Away from all the home routines, the realities of life, etc............vacation soon come. Our first stop is generally Charlotte, NC....and it is a routine from there.
Once we land.......I am truly in heaven. I don't care how long the lines are, how long I have to wait for luggage...as long as I get mine. LOL Then, the climax of the arrival....walking outside the airport with luggage in hand....smelling the air, feeling the sun, and heading for my first drink on Jamaican soil! Then.....my ride to Negril!! The rest is always perfection!!! Always love stopping along the way for some authentic JA food......then off again. OK, now I am getting all psyched again for our next trip which is just too far away for my liking. Maybe, just maybe....a short trip in-between could be in my future. Who knows, but however it goes, I'll be happy as hell to be back home again in Negril!
From there on...the list is huge....the yardie food, the vibes, the music, the rum and other items.....the smells, the slam of the dominoes, the smiles, the beach, the cliffs, snorkeling, all of my long time friends and most of all........West End Road.....absolutely love it!!!
I too enjoy walking out on the beach with drink in hand when I first get there...I can feel the stress leave my body. And just the sounds and smells and the great food. Most of all I always seem to make a new friend or two every reach.
Hey Yetta, I love the West End Road too. Nothing like taking a stroll on your first day as soon as you drop your crap in your room. My last reach I stumbled down to Sexy Rexy's and was in the vibe in no time.
Wow! Reading these posts really makes me excited about my trip in 17 days! Even though I'm no where near ready (haven't bought sunscreen, bugspray, etc) I hope the next 17 days fly by!! I've only been once before but what made it a great vacation was meeting a lot of interesting people and experiencing a different culture.

Well for me ! It's when the plane land's, the Fragrance in the air. ( Jamaica) Iam back, loving every minute..Beach/ Sun/Sand & the People... REEEEELAX !!!
Just the vibe I 'spose. It's in the air that floats the smells and scents of Negril, the air that carries the distant throb of the bass line in a hushed Marley track, the air that allows the sun to shine on wintered bodies and warms the so soft sand that we sink our toes into.
Jeeeez, I can't wait, that even made me tearful just thinking about it!!!!

It is that I don't have to do anything. The minute I step off the plane everything I have to do is left back home and for the time I am there I am free.
For me, I don't even have to "do" anything. I just have to "be". Does that make sense? As soon as we walk off that plane, everything changes. That's what I love about going to Jamaica. I'm not stressed about anything like I am on other vacations.

i love looking out the plane window and getting that first glimpse of jamaica...the road leading to negril....then when the front wheel of that plane touches down i feel like a kid on christmas morning! i love the peacefulnesss of the beach in the early morning...no stress, all my worries are left behind!
the best thing about Jamaica for us, is being together 24/7, and building more wonderful memories to fit in with the last 35 years of being together........ sharing the sights,sounds, and yes, smells of paradise once again..........
I don't think there is much I can add to this. You all hit it dead on. I am totally with Rambo though - being with my wife and family 24/7 for 10 days is simply the best.
Oh yeah, the food, the music, the Red Stripe, the beach, and most of all - the wonderful people of Jamaica.
It's all about the open air bars and submarine sandwiches :D

After going to Negril many time we have learned how to whittle off whats not needed....We fly with a carry on so when we get off the plane no wait for luggage.....Take a private car and get away from the busy airport fast and instead of being on a bus where they all say No dont stop,just drive real fast past these nice little roadside bars, We stop and take our time....Remember stopping at the Lollipop bar?Just slow down and take it all in......
Back in the day of my beloved air jamaica out of baltimore, It started at the bar on the concorse with mr big. He had it down he would make us double absolute bloody marys that we would chug 2 apiece and barely make the morning flight. mobay by 11 am the beach by 2 ish. Anyway apon arrival the customs lady usally would say tattoo mon why you spend so much time in jamaica, I would reply mi love da beautiful ladies here she would smile and say go on you crazy mon! lol. out the doors and to the right and then it it would really hit me all the people, the heat, the noise,senses are overloading lol. need cold beer immediatley, look theres a bar now! not like befor when i use to buy cold stripes out of the crowd. ok wheres my driver/ look for a jamaican with dreads ! yea rightlol. Tyrone he always finds me!.Oh the airconditioning in his van truely appreciated 4 sure. now the drive sometimes through town sometimes up the hill behind the red stripe sign sometimes through the old cemetary its all good. Im here finally i think its all amazing. The people the country and the allure of being somewhat magical.anyway how can one explain what makes it special all of it does. yetta has a deep love for the rock, Silver fox 80 plus trips he must like it a little too, and gangsta pat elegance pure elegance. and all the rest of my friends i truly believe they make it special for me...
Stepping out of the airport and knowing you just landed in our beloved Jamaica! The stress just melts off of your entire body!

I get a cheesy grin on my face as soon as I can see the island drawing close as I'm on the plane..
That grin last through the immigration line and the lady stops scowling and smiles back at me..
I go find a redcap and slip him a ten to help me find my luggage and get it out the door, start the vacay off right, no problem, mon...
traffic is heavy stop and go stop again and get some cashews hot and fresh..
then out of town and traffic is light and we pull over to look at a likkle cave..
I take my first toke, and it is like communion...
back on the road jammin to Jr. Gong...
then at my room it's time to drop the suitcases and get into my bathing suit, in a hurry for the last time when in Jamaica...
and then...
baptized once more in the crystal clear healing wata of Negril..
