Last trip we paid 230 pp with tax. This trip I can't get anything out of MCO or TPA for under 400.
I try to get home 4 times a year, so putting off a trip is no big thing.
I'll just wait until things change. Good thing I can grab a last minute deal if one pops up.
Feel your pain Captaind, flights out of Little Rock in Sept are going to set us back over $850 per person ... OUCH!!
I have been travelling to Jamaica out of Florida for the past 12 years and have never seen airfares this high. C'mon airlines, we need a sale out of Orlando!
with me needing first class seating,and with wheelchair assistance all the way....we dont go like we use to......we CANT!...........
and soon less and less will be able to.....its like Jamaica is turning back time, all that will be going will be the more affluent,... just like when it all started....
our first flights were 119.00 specials from Vacation Hotline...and they even WELCOMED YOU.........
I can remember our first trip in 2000 was only a little over 300 per person. I just called Delta and told them they are crazy. Found flights out of Memphis for about 500 per person with AirTran...guess I better book those before they go up too!

I never checked, but I always figured that the Florida prices would be dirt cheap.
As close as you are, i always thouoght it would be $100-200 bucks.

I feel you bigtime!! We were trying to work in a quick summer trip since it is literally so hard to make it a full year without a Jamaica fix. BUT, I just checked today, again, and they are up even more!! I am so frustrated. Thank Jah we booked our Christmas trip months ago. Right now, the prices are nearly double per person this summer ...of what we paid to fly in December 2012. Rattid!!!! Good luck!
AS long as the gas prices are up because of middle east it won't get better. Not to negate the fact that the airlines also might be playing games with the situation. One thing I know is they often run really good special in the middle of the night and wee hours of the morning when you are sleep. Sory I don't know the name of the program, but it you name your price and set the alarm it will actually go off like an alarm clock and wake you up so you can book before it changes. Someone else told me about it .You have to literally HAUNT the internet, but my GF is coming Sat on a tix that costed 295.00 ATL/Ft. Lauderdale/MBJ. They are still out there, you just have to work it .
If you are going to wait it might be a long, long time. Airlines have greatly reduced capacity and air fares are absurdly high. Ridiculous.
I got $280 from Orlando for June/July (Jetblue)..it was up over $300 for a while and when it went to $280 I grabbed it! That's what I paid over Xmas/New Years as well. I'm happy with anything under $300...even though for an hour and a half flight it should be less :(
Last year I paid $542 to go from Tulsa to Montego Bay and back..that was in November. This year, I purchased the to ticket one month for $416 and the return ticket the next month at $367, making it a total of $783 this year, making it a difference of $240. Now I could have gotten it a little cheaper if I wanted to make it two stops instead of one, but then the money I would have spent at the airport on meals and stuff would have negated any savings, so I just went ahead and bought the tickets.
Honestly, with the way things are going in the gulf, I really don't expect the prices to go down at all, and personally believe it's just a matter of time before they are jacked up even further, especially if Israel does indeed end up attacking Iran..when the big boys get together with their big toys, you know they want to use them, has anyone known of a troop buildup of any kind for a war when we didn't end up having one? Honestly, I would buy whatever plane fare you can as soon as you can because I don't see them going anywhere but up, so if you want to save on that it's probably best to do it now.
As soon as I saw gas prices going up I bought our plane tix for July. Sure 'nuff the tix have sky rocketed! Damn George W... (that's a running joke around here b/c we know people who actually blame him for everything, still)
You just need to be vigilant in your searching. Better fares are out there. I spent five months of searching every day on flights out of Lit.
About 6 weeks before our vacation Delta lowered fares $300 a ticket, but the fares were only posted for 1 day. I had already decided to drive to Memphis
to take advantage of lower fares from there.
I did notice that Jetblue was offering fares less than 400 from Mco if you were willing to travel midweek.
I fly out of orlando as well and I can't find a decent fare anywhere! Last year I left on July 20 and paid about 238, these prices are ridiculous!
I can't believe people still think this. It's been discussed on the board forever, maybe not since when you joined. Closer has never meant cheaper, usually has cost more than flying from other parts of the country. No charter or discount airlines. Airlines have had us over a barrel as long as I've been going to JA (25 years). There has never been a year when Chicago area or other northern friends paid less for a flight than I did. The average has been me paying at least $200 more for my airfare. This summer I'm booked through FF miles, 1st class. Same date/flights - coach - now going for $731. Last time I checked it was around $568.Quote:

It is crazy this year! A friend of mine lives in Jacksonville, Fl and his rate this winter was higher than what I paid leaving out of West Virginia. Come on....makes no sense at all! Our rates in a rural setting, are very limited!! I feel lucky that I booked early and copped a deal when I did. With that said, the summer rates are nearly doubled. Guess the summer trip may be off unless the prices come down...which I doubt. It's going to be a long summer and fall, but it will be worth the wait.
