So, what are your favorite snacks to have while on vacation in Negril?;)
Do you have any 'must have' snacks that you pack in your suitcase, or are you able to find whatever you want in Negril?;)
Whenever we travel anywhere, Anthony always brings a huge pack of strawberry twizzlers with him, however, I'm not picky, and will pretty much snack on anything.
LOL twizzlers are awesome.
Just about everything can be found in Negril but I do bring a big ziploc bag of raw almonds and cashews because I can get a really good price at them at the store by my house. I also bring hot cocoa packets for the kids (w/marshmellows) even tho I can get them there too but get at the $1 Store here. Last few reaches I took a bunch of Cilantro and made homemade pica del gallo (tomato, onion, cilantro, hot pepper, garlic) which is great w/tostitos or on fish/chicken........
Few snacks I LOVE in Jamaica though are:
--Shirley Coconut Biscuits (shortbread cookies) they are so delish!
--I love cheese and water crackers (wheat cream I think is my favorite brand)
--Fresh fruit like mangoes, guinnips in season, sugar cane
--Hot roasted peanuts from the peanut cart that whistles up West End
--(kids love all the horribly unhealthy chips and juice that are so cheap but I steer clear)
I don't snack too much though - Fruit/toast for breakfast; light lunch and nice hot cooked food for dinner.

Yes, I also love snacking on all the fresh fruit in Negril! Can't get enough of the mangoes!! Your homemade pico del gallo sounds really yummy. We have always brought a bunch of different candy down for the kids, along with a huge bag of school supplies, but never thought about bringing them hot cocoa packets!

I like those banana chips. They are like fried plantains.
I bring a small jar of Nutella every time.. and i eat it with bread or Shirley biscuits.
OMG! Nutella! Love it! We used to buy the HUGE jars at Costco, but then it became too addictive! haha!
I can blame my weight gains solely on my lack of control when it comes to Nutella... i used to buy the giant jars... but now i only buy the little ones and allow myself one spoonful when im feeling down or moody.Quote:

I agree, the banana chips are great. On our last trip, I feel in love with St. Mary's Sweet Potato Chips. Rough Tops, especially the coconut ones are a favorite. Though I don't know that they are strichtly Jamaican, I have a weakness for pretty much all the Holiday brand cheese snacks (similar to cheetos) - Chili Sticks, Big Foots, Cheese Balls - they have all satisfied late night cravings at some point.
We were staying not far from Shamrocks on the beach road last trip. Every evening we would stop in for a couple of Stripes, a bottle of their orange juice (liquid sunshine in a glass) for the next morning and a few snacks.
I really like that the Jamaican snacks come in small packages - just enough to satisfy the craving without going overboard. The local snacks were also really budget friendly, especially versus the imported stuff. If you have some snack food from home you just have to have, it would probably be much cheaper to bring them along.
OMG!!! Big Foot are my favorites! I also like any of the coconut cookies and we always get spiced bun for our room as a snack or a quick breakfast too!

Rough Top Bisquits brand Coconut Drops. I got obsessed with them last trip. I think they are made in Trinidad.

banana chips or coco bread..but man oh man nothing better than a fresh sliced pear with a teeny bit of salt. :)

If you like Lorna Doone shortbread cookies, you will LOVE Shirley Biscuits! I prefer the plain ones but they also have coconut. Yummmm. Plantain chips, fresh fruit, peanuts... so many good snacks in JA!
veggie, chicken and beef patties and coco bread........yummy as heck and cheap......
