Have an awesome time! The 1st time we went to Negril, I copy/pasted, save/printed soooo much good info from various boards.
We had a true book on Negril for sure...Of course by the time we'd finished our flight, I'd almost memorized every fact in the 20 some odd pages,lol...
Happy Travels,
Smokin Kevan
Hey Beachlover, my first trip starts day after tomorrow. I'm leaving when you're arriving. Tag team boardies. KC here, what neck of MO you from?
First timer what is on your final "to do" list??
I live about an hour south of St. Louis......Bonne Terre, MO. We leave STL at 9:05 am and arrive in Jamaica at 12:35pm!
Right now the only thing we have planned is a fishing trip on Tuesday morning and the One Love bus on Wednesday. I would like to go to the Pelican bar...not sure how to get there and how much it would cost.....or even if it would be worth it? Also would like some tips on where to go what to do on our first night, we will be arriving on a Saturday. Beyond that we just want to be..... we are not fancy people and really just want to see Negril as it is..... I have read so many great things!
Oh....one more thing.... does anyone know how to go about getting a cell phone there that we can use to call back to the states?
Have a fabulous time!! I know some places will rent you a phone for your stay if you don't care to purchase one.
Have a great trip! We'll be about an hour behind you...we leave on the 26th and land around 1:30pm. We usually stay close to Kuyaba our first night and end up at Cocunuts International hanging with Mrs. Angie, Sheldon and the crcew there. Might hit Seastar this year for the Saturday night festivities. Not sure how long you're staying but if you have the time, the Pelican Bar is an awesome day trip. Where are you guys staying? We're at Kuyaba.
We will be staying at the Blue Cave Castle for 7 days. We had also thought about going over to Seastar that first night.
Go to Digicel in downtown and get a little cheap phone. load it up and chat away.
You do understand that the payment for all the help and advice you have received is to at least come back and let us know if you had a good time. No elaborate report needed, just a shout out will do.
You should absolutely go to Seastar for your first night in town. That's what I did and it turned out to be a great decision. Probably meet some boardies right out of the gate. Well I'm excited for you...have a GREAT time, and if it's not asking to much throw down a trip report for us when you get back!!! Bless up
Who's your driver? Reason I ask is many will lend you a phone and you just pay the minutes. Also, you can get out the door at Digicel for roughly $50 and have a phone, sim card, 1000 international minutes, and 125 local minutes. Or you can skip the international plan if you do not talk that much and just use the local minutes to call out.
One Love Bus tour was a great highlight of my recent trip! As was YS Falls and Pelican Bar. Only some people can say they have been at a bar like that!!!! Contact JuJu tours (Angi) if you need some help with that. She has phones too. She was our tour guide for a week. She is from New York, and her partner is George, who is Jamaican. They are awesome!!
Have a great time. Think you'll love the castle, we stayed in the penthouse last Dec - didn't want to leave the place. Oh yeah - DO go to Seastar, they put on a great show and the place is always jumpin.
Another thing about Seastar is that if the sea is too rough you can head up to Seastar and hang out in the pool if you want. Buy a few drinks, eat their great food, and float away. They also have a swim up bar which gives you a good vantage point of the goings at Seastar.
Change of plans...we'll be at Bourbon Beach for Popcaan on our first night. I haven't been to a show there since back in the DeBuss daze...but have listened to a quite a few shows from our balcony at Kuyaba over the years.
It will kinda be a full circle thingy considering that I met my wife in Negril many years ago and our 'first date' was dinner at 3 Dives followed by a concert at DeBuss. After that, I was 'all in' for my Irish southern bell...after dating long distance for several years (Dallas-Tampa) and planning our next few reaches together, we got engaged over dinner at Xtabi....then married a couple of reaches later at Kuyaba. Since then, we celebrate our anniversary each year in Negril...this trip will be our 5th wedding anniversary.
I've pretty much been in lurker mode since the board started in 95/96(?) so I'm not sure why I felt the need to write this...I guess it's the excitement of this upcoming trip combined with all the great recent writings from the boardie trip last month.
Soon come.
Awwww....what a great story...N5!! Rocks!!
Great story. Gonjon & Tizzy did you reading this????
Thank you all so much for
Thanks to all for the great tips! 5 days to go and we cant wait. I so need this trip. Amos and I have been together 4 yrs. His wife died 6 yrs ago and I was seperated about the same time. Together we have 7 kids...ages 20 - 6. It has not always been an easy road but we have a lot of love and a lot of fun! We will miss the kids Lots... but so need this time to relaxed and let go. If anyone has any more tips please post! I am addicted to this board! We will be staying at BCC if anybody out there is going to be in Negril from 5/26 - 6/2.
N5, thats a sweet story for sure. Congratulations on your 5th anniversary. Enjoy:o
To N5... what a great story! Maybe you could help the newbies out while we are in town. We are not afraid of discovering things on our own but sometimes its nice to be around people that have already been there done that!
Lisa, Mo, Eden, Beachlover, Daydreamer - thank you for the kind comments.
Beachlover - you and Amos will have a great time in Negril. Feel free to pm any questions, etc. We hope to bump into you during our stay...we'll be there through June 10th. I saw your post about the One Love bus pub crawl on the 30th and we'll be there as well.
3 more days! So excited I could cry!
Way to go, beachlover....Make sure and build in plenty of do nothing time...It will hit you when you realize you have no idea what day or time it is. I call that the "Negril Zone" and it's sweeeeet...For us, that usually happens about the 3rd or 4th day.....
Happy Travels...
Kevan
We leave tomorrow morning! Will be in Negril by 2 pm tomorrow. Today is THE longest day though!
Yippie! Us too! We land around 1:30pm tomorrow!
N5.... have you packed yet? We were up til 1:30 this morning packing! All the kids have been shipped to grandmas. Plane lands at 12:30 pm tomorrow. Hope to meet up with you during the trip. Have a safe flight!
beachlover - same to you, hope you have a nice flight and wonderful trip. Looks like we should see you next Wed for the pub crawl. Nothing has been packed yet! We'll be busy with that tonight...
We are here! Had an amazing flight in...the landing was awesome! Blue cave castle is great along with all of the staff. The ride from the airport to hotel was an adventure in itself. Sitting under the hut right now listening to the rain...
Your in Negril now? Nice!
What are your thoughts of the castle? Which room you staying in? We were in the penthouse last December - love the shower on the lower level and I miss the morning coffee hut.
Enjoy!!
Just got back from Negril on Saturday. We stayed in the top tower room and it was great! We didn't have any problems with bugs or being hot. The ride to Negril was an adventure in itself!
trip report beachlover! i know you found at least one new place we don't know about - come with it :-)
Ok.. I loved the C&D bar! Connie makes great sandwiches and cakes. And she played George Strait for me. We also went to Wild Crocodile Adventure tour and rode the donkey carts! It was a 2 mile ride with two young guides. Ended at a private beach. It was fun and different! We also went to Half Moon bay...we had the beach to ourselves for most of the day. They have great food there at good prices. And Teddy at BCC is an awesome chef. Teddy let Amos fish with him over the ledge at the castle and he caught 8 fish. The next night Teddy made fish soup with them! We met a lot of great people while in Negril. Had great food and great times...we will be back!
