"Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
It's been over 3 years since I last visited Negril and since then there have been some changes and a few of the places I liked to go are now POOF-gone!
My question is this:
Where are some good places to get a beach chair/seat and drink/snack on the beach (used to use For Real bar/23-7/Boat Bar)?
Where are some good (inexpensive and teen friendly) places to eat, relax and visit while on the West End?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as our reach gets closer and closer-in the teens now with our countdown!
Bless,
Dm

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Sun Beach bar/restaurant - right next to For Real/Sandy Haven. Great food, and still right on that same nice piece of beach.....

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
I'm not trying to be confrontational but we had lunch and drinks at Sun Beach in April. Sat in the restaurant area(not the bar). Hubby and I had a sandwich 2 stripes and 2 gin drinks and the bill was over $60. Seemed a bit pricey to us. Was it because we did not sit at the bar? Needless to say it was our most expensive lunch and not even close to being the best.

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
We went to Idle Awhile for breakfast and asked to stay at their beach. Nice service with prepared loungers and privacy. No cheap drinks though.Sun beach is usually inexpensive and fun. 180 -200J RedStripes. Xtabi on the cliffs for a great day of lounging and snorkelling. Gerry g is leading me to try out the Westender. Try the One love pub crawl to get a peek at different bar/restos on the cliffs.

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
hey Dawn Marie........nice to see you again..........
with For Real no longer I would opt for SunBeach which is next door to the old For Real for free lounge chairs and the cheapest Beers on the beach........
the Boat Bar is still there and hasn't changed much........
the Pilot House and Mama Flo's seems to have the best inexpensive eats on da beach.......
on the West End mi favorite place is da Canoe and mi would also go with Salt N Pepper, Sharks and Sips and Bites and even Three Dives for inexpensive eats.........
places like Pushcart, Rockhouse, Ricks, Ivans, Hungry Lion and even LTU are on the expensive side.........
as far as bars go;
Corner Bar has cheap drinks and beers
White Sands 2 for 1 drink specials till 4PM
Legends and SamSara Happy Hour 4 - 7PM
YellowBird Happy Hour 4 to sunset on da beach
Rockhouse 6-7pm
SeaStar Inn Happy Hour 4-6pm
Canoe Happy Hour 2-6pm - 2 for 1 Red Stripes $200J's
Coco LaPalm 2 for one Happy Hour from 5 to 7 every night but Monday
Boat Bar for 200J Red Stripes on da beach
Sunnyside Bar (Yellow and Green with bench seatiing - next to ROOMS) 150J Red Stripe Beers
SunBeach for 170J Red Stripes on da beach - it's mi hangout on da beach
Firefly for 170J Red Stripes on da beach
White Sands Mondays $160J Red Stripe Beers
hope that was some help.........

The treehouse is always welcoming non-guests on the beach and Xtabi on the cliffs.

Boat Bar; BarBBarn; Treehouse are my favorites.
Where are some good (inexpensive and teen friendly) places to eat, relax and visit while on the West End?
Xtabi; Canoe; Three Dives - for cheap eats though I would check for local box lunches or patties (Choices on West End, Juicy Js in town.)

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Seasplash is a great place with awesome security and solid happy hour specials. It was always a fun crowd when we kicked it there. The owner is very involved as well to ensure that you have a great time. It's right past Treehouse and Country Country. That's my favorite section of the beach actually.

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
DM, my husband and I were in Negril in April just the two of us. We are going back with our 17 year old daughter and her friend and our 21 year old sun. We hung out at Sea Splash in April and plan on taking our kids there in June. It was a fun place to hang out at on the beach. 16 days for us!! : ) Maybe we will bump into each other...

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Thanks everyone!
I truly appreciate all the input-I'm sure we'll be just fine, as everything always seems to work out when you reach pon di island, doesn't it? It's just my job as "the mom" to do all the worrying and fretting!
VW40-when are you going to be there? We are staying at Seastar (cliff road) for 7 nights from June 7th.
Hope to meet up with you!

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
LOL..how cool is that?
My daughters are 25 and 15 and have both been to Seastar before and absolutely ADORE Negril.
It's been about 6 years since they've been "home".
They are very excited and can't wait to go!
I'm sure you'll enjoy meeting "boardies"-especially if you attend any of the webcasts-and Rob and Lisa are really nice people to get to know, too!
See you soon!!!

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Hi Rambo!
Thank you for the compliment regarding Emily-she is gorgeous, I have to agree!
The week before last, she was honorably discharged during a ceremony on the beach in San Diego where she is/was stationed...then moments later, was sworn in again for 3 more years!!!
She will be living in Colorado and will be serving for at least another 3 yrs for the good ole USA.
She will be flying home in 2 days and this trip to Negril will be a real treat for all of us, as we just decided that it was just time to go back "home". I am very blessed to have both my girls with me this time and looking forward to every little thing and lots of fun and laughter.
I hope you and your lovely bride are doing well-next time I'm visiting my mom and dad I would love to stop by and say "hello"!

Yep-time FLIES!
She still has the necklace that you gave her and of course we remember you and how lovely you and your hubby were.
She hasn't been there since she was 9 and her passport picture is oh, just a wee bit different! LOL In fact, it's due to expire in September-I can see why!
I hope that you are doing well and hope to see you again-you sure are a sweet lady and it was lovely to have met you.

Enjoy your trip... and from what I've heard your passport must be valid for 6 mo from travel date (correct me if I'm wrong here) so be sure to update passport prior to travel for your daughter!

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Lindo,
I googled the requirements for entry into and from Jamaica back to the US and read that as long as a passport is valid before and during travel, there is no 6 month expiration issue.
There ARE issues regarding a 6 month expiration window for OTHER countries and I hope to GOD that I have current and correct information, but if you know any different and can direct me to a site that says otherwise, PLEASE let me know-freaking out til MONDAY when I CALL to be sure!

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Alfred's on the beach is always a good option for a great atmosphere with great food! Tony's hut is a cool spot to stop for a cold Red Stripe and a game or two on the beach.
In the middle (on a beach but in the west end) is the Canoe Bar & Grill which is very cool in every way!
Eddy's or TJ's (a few steps up Pee WeeLlane)or Pee Wee's or or or.... (so many in the west end) are all good for a laugh or drink or food deeper in the west end!
Peace
Elvino

Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Lindo...all is well.
Passport is GOOD until the day it expires for travel FROM USA to JA and back.
Some countries DO have a travel "window" of 3 or 6 months (which is SO stupid and makes NO sense if you ask me) but Jamaica and the US are all good!
-
Re: "Open" places to visit both BEACH and WEST END (Question)
Glad to hear that and thanks for the info!!! Just didn't want something silly like that to cause problems on your trip.... I think I came up with that because travel to the USA from Jamaica (for those with a Jamaican passport/visa) requires your passport to be valid for the 6 months, sorry the mistake. Guess I thought the policy was for both countries.
