Any news of Seasplash. Kind of worried about my November and February deposit and reservation. Anyone hearing anything positive? Would like some good news
i think there was a webcast last thursday.why are you worried?
What kind of news? Why are you worried?
Seasplash is awesome! Great location, great hotel, bar, host....I can't recommend it enough
Do you have something specific that you are referring to?
yes under new management or back to old owner? anyone else hearing anything?
WAs there in April...had a fantastic time..property looks great..Fun,fun vibe..No Worries!
We all agree it is a super hotel. The question is is it in financial trouble? A lot of people have advanced bookings. If not then lets squash this rumour!
Hi embury, where are you picking up the 'kinda worried' vibe from. What have you heard and where from?
Place seemed to be in FULL swing when we were hanging out there in April LOL
Dont think u should be worried bout a thing.
If you're concerned about deposits/reservations, give them a call....
We were at Seasplash several times last week and there was no problem. Talked to Jim (new owner) and he was saying that he just purchased a new boat and was going to be offering sunset cruises in the near future. He already has a promo card made up and gave us one.
I actually stayed there a few weeks ago and renovations are ongoing. We had 2 rooms 1 renovated but with plumibing issues and one not renovated yet. I would suggest you take a copy of your reservations with you. Jim is running several specials and the office tried to charge us for some things Jim had included in our deal.
By the time you go, all should be fine.
Enjoy....
i would highly recommend having a printed out reservation confirmation on hand at all times. i had 2 instances where i was told that i my stay was over, and i had to produce my confirmation.
my stay was for 3 weeks.
also meals were charged to my room, with a bogus signature. i did not pay for those charges.
Heard that Boombastic is no longer at seasplash.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! Is that true? Can anyone confirm?
Seems to be true, no one is really surprised? Maybe the party is over?
not surprised but hope that the property sticks around as its really a lovely place. Always transitions in Negril. Hopefully new management will arrive and honor current reservations. Best to all.
Awwww man, well I am just confused. I thought he was the owner...how could he no longer be there? Is it sold? What will happen to the place and all the reservations and what not? This really bums me out!
I guess also that means bye bye to my winning prize from the boardie bash as that was basically just a verbal thing from him, I mean I do have it in email too but what good is that?
Bummer, this place was really cool, I enjoyed hanging there and I was really looking forward to staying there to cash in our free stay!
Man......
Where is everyone "hearing" this? Is there or will there be an official announcement or something?
Rob or Lisa? Are you able to confirm or deny?
We were there on Saturday May 19th and Jim sat down with us and introduced himself as the owner. Said he was from Chicago and had bought the place about 6 months ago. Maybe Rob can confirm more info. Rob was there on Sunday afternoon for the webcast so if anybody knows whats going on, he would.
Can't always believe what hear. I was told he was just leasing the property. I just hope it comes back alive to its former glory. I have a lot of friends who will be checking on future reservations.....
I known you cannot believe everything you hear but believe this. Seasplash was never sold, he was leasing it, I can't believe he said he bought it. I lurk just about everyday but hardly ever post but i had to put in my two cents on this.
Geez!
I have emails that he has owner under his name. Maybe Jim will come this on here and clarify whether he is the owner or not and if he is still honoring the vouchers that some of us have bought. :)
Anyone can put owner under their name. I hope rob or Lisa fills us in on this situation. Hopefully those deals will be honored.
According to the front desk, Jacqueline Clark is the acting GM. According to the front desk, the Living Social deals are being honored.
The front desk also indicated that there was a possibilty Mr. Hurt will return. That indicates to me that Mr. Hurt was doing more than leasing. Perhaps like many deals these days, he was leasing to own or as they say, with an option to buy.
I'm a positive thinker and hope this is the case!
That is the entire bit of info I gleaned, nothing else.

To all who are concerned about Sea Splash:
Here is the story of exactly what is going on at Sea Splash. Last November, I arrived in Negril on other business to find Sea Splash closed and the bar and restaurant shut down. I asked and was allowed to stay there at a nominal fee. While there, I spoke with Patrick Lawe and was told that he and his brother had the property up for sale. I began negotiations with my business partner Ted and I going through several drafts of a sales contract with the Lawe brothers. We finally agreed on a deal and we took over the property officially on December 1st as the registered owners of the property and business and we formed our own corporation and also registered the "Trading as" name of Sea Splash Hotel. We opened a bank account and started operating the hotel, bar, and restaurant and re-hired all 37 employees who had previously been laid off. Our contract with the Lawe's utilized a temporary lease period, a down payment, and a vendor's mortgage which was to be finalized by a certain date. There were several key things in the contract which were to be done by the Lawe's and their attorney that were not completed. We were assured by the Lawes that this would be no problem and all was well. We put up a substantial cash deposit and also invested a large sum of our own money to rebuild the bar, deck, and restaurant and to repair the infrastructure at the hotel which had been ignored for years. One week ago, Patrick Lawe walked in the hotel at 9am with his attorney and a security guard and informed me that because the contract had not been followed to the letter, he was taking over and evicting us from the property immediately with no compensation for anything that we had done. My lawyer informed me that, while unethical, he was within his legal rights to do so and we will have to fight him in court. I since have found out that several key employees have been in constant contact with the Lawe's and this was their plan all along. I unfortunately have no control over what happens there right now but the fight is not over. I will keep in touch via this board or feel free to email me at mrhurt@aol.com and I will answer all inquiries. I apologize for any inconvenience but please be assured my intentions are and always have been the best for Sea Splash and Negril in general.
dayum.
WOW!!!! Sorry to hear that Jim!
Glad to hear this now, my best friend just reserved 15-20 rooms for her wedding at Sea Splash in March 2013, good thing she didn't pay for the rooms yet!!!!
I'm am SO sorry and angry to hear about this!! Our first trip to Negril was in January. We stayed at an AI but left everyday to visit Sea Splash. It was the most fun we had! This is what made us want to return to Negril. Jim, you and your staff are the best! Hope this all works out for you. There is no way I'd step foot on the property unless its run by you. Hang in there!!
I wonder if my green raft is still there?
Wow, that's an awful situation, and highly unprofessional of the sellers! I hope you are at least able to eventually get your money back, So sorry this happened to you.
I wonder what's going to happen to all of us that purchased the living social vouchers? I know mine is suppossed to be good until sometime next April!?
I truly am sorry this happened to you as well Jim, I've heard nothing but wonderful things about you and the rennovations you've done, etc. I hope it all works out for you and your partner. What a bummer!!!
Oh, GeeryG123 If your green raft isn't there, you can use my pink raft at Rondel !!! (FYI: Pink flop-flips go perfect with it)
Jim -
Very sorry to hear about this situation. You are a stand up guy and we will never forget your generosity, openness, compassion and concern for us. Negril in general would be better served to have more involved operators such as yourself. We will hope for the best for you in this situation and won't have anything to do with SeaSplash in your absence.
Such a pity it have to go so....
Jim Hurt is the reason I booked at Sea Splash! Having worked for the JTB, American Airlines and Super Clubs in the past, I can always get a deal on a hotel room. I love the fact that Jim is a Chicagoan, a Negrilaholic and took the step to try a live the dream many of us have had at one point or another. I looked forward to hearing Jim's stories from 30 years of visiting Negril. Nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes and none of us knows the outcome of this. At this point, I'm reconsidering my stay at Sea Splash...and that's the truth, Ruth!
This really sucks! Booked SeaSplash with living social voucher and was so excited to go and meet Jim and stay at what everyone was touting as the best hotel on the beach now that he is around. Just called SeaSplash and was told that my voucher was still good and there was nothing to worry about but I have such a bad taste about the whole thing now. Feel like the new management is just waiting to screw me somehow. Not sure if I can even cancel my reservation without losing a bundle. Will look into it tomorrow after I've given it some more thought. Jim was so great on helping me with the voucher and reservation and honestly I don't want to give these people my money after what I have heard. Very disheartening. I am a business person too and I hate when people sacrifice ethics for a buck. I hope you are back in the saddle come August, Jim. Really bummed out about this.
I am so sorry Jim. What a terrible thing to happen. I really hope they come to their senses because there are so many in support of YOU. And so many people wanting to stay there and hang out there because of YOU. You and Ted have started all those renovations, and brought in all that money with your deals. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to be of any help, in addition to boycotting the hotel.
I had booked the use of my voucher in April 2013. I don't have the means to literally throw that voucher away and not use it, yet would not likely get a refund from living social (as I'm sure my voucher was redeemed when reserving), plus after 30 days, I don't think they'll refund your money unless the business has gone under or refused to honour the voucher. Even if I still intended to go, if you (Jim) do not return shortly to Sea Splash, I have my doubts that it will still be in business by next April.
Is there any way that "we" can pressure the owners to do the right thing? Everyone who is on the boards, cancel their reservations? Only problem is that all the reservations from the vouchers have already been paid out, all they'd be losing out on is food and bar tabs. I think they are heavily underestimating the pull that Jim has had to Sea Splash, and that taking the hotel back, is not going to work, people will avoid it like the plague due to this situation.
Hey Jim, I'm a big fan, too. This is a tough one. I know your presence has had a big impact on the Seasplash gaining popularity lately, and I know you've put in a lot of hard work, so I hope it works out for you.
Also, is Natasha the bartender and Dave the beach security guy and Vince (lifeguard?) still working there?
