Best place to stay on both the Cliffs and Beach..traveling solo
Hello everyone. It's been a long time since my last jaunt to Negril (5 years). I'm looking to travel solo and would like to know the best place on both the cliffs and beach for a person traveling alone. I need some much needed R&R. Would prefer properties that:
- are within walking distance to restaurants and entertainment
- have a pool you can actually swim in
- tastefully appointed rooms (does not have to be lavish, just tasteful)
- have a good vibe so I don't feel like an outcast as a solo traveler
I've stayed at Charela Inn 3 times and would like to try other properties. If all else fails I could do Charela again. Thanks!

I was thinking you would be a perfect fit at Seastar or Catcha ....

On the beach, CocoLaPalm, Idle Awhile or Seawind resort.
Re: Best place to stay on both the Cliffs and Beach..traveling solo
I've stayed solo and enjoyed Seastar (cliff road), Rayon (beach road across from CoCo) and CoCo. My favorite is Seastar because the owners and staff go above and beyond for you and there is absolutely NOTHING that can't do for you or figure out. Great security, nice location, great rooms, food, music, pool...etc etc-oh, and the price is fantastic too.
CoCo was a bit "touristy" for me but nice-just didn't care for the room I was in-door was right next to what was For Real at the time and my view was a chain link fence and a driveway. Staff was great at CoCo but didn't care for manager there. I did stay at CoCo another time with family and enjoyed it, but it was a bit pricey.
Rayon was very nice when I stayed there and although it's across the street, Sun Beach is just a short walk away-they have great security, pool, nice rooms, upstairs balcony, game room and restaurant on premises.
Have a wonderful time!
Enjoy!

Idle Awhile. Zen when you want it and close to restaurants and music.
Re: Best place to stay on both the Cliffs and Beach..traveling solo
if you are solo.... you'll want to be able to have guests and a lot places don't allow them..........
like SamSara unless you pay $20 bucks.........or any upscale place on da Cliffs like Catcha Falling Star
and most direct beach front upscale resorts don't allow guests..........a lot of places on the Cliffs do allow guests
and even if some places do allow guests like Firefly on da beach..........they want their guest fee........
so on da Cliffs with da pool you have SeaStar Inn, Catcha Fallling Gardens, Oasis and Home Sweet Home........
so on da Beach with a pool......I'd go with Tree House..........if you can live without da pool......I'd go with Bar B Barn
Cool Runnings, Marko

I second Idle Awhile! I have never stayed there alone, however, we did meet several solo travelers during our many stays there, and they were all very happy and felt safe there. Great location, good security, nice beachfront, bar and restaurant, and easy walk in either direction to entertainment and other restaurants. Their sister property, Hide Awhile (free shuttle between the two) is located on the cliffs, and has a beautiful pool on the edge of the cliff overlooking the sea.

I stayed at Hidden Paradise (not on the beach but beach acess) by myself for a week before my sister joined me.. I felt really safe from the first night .It was my first stay there and I will be going back. The staff are great, they have a pool and it was always clean, they have nice covered patios so if it rains you can sit there and still enjoy the view, the grounds are well kept. My other friends stayed at YB and said they are going to come to Hidden Paradise next year :)

My favorite is Rondel Village, I always feel safe and at home. It's very relaxing, with a good vibe. ( And clean) Thinking about it! By now, I should own a piece of that property

For a solo traveler, I must recommend Coral Seas Garden Hotel.
It is across the road from Bar B Barn and next door to Sunrise Club Hotel.
Great view of the Morass in the back by the pool.
They are guest friendly, have 2 beds, cable TV and A'C in every room.
The windows are wood velour type blinds and have screens.
The housekeepers do the best work I have ever seen.
It is a marvelous garden setting and they have a nice pool and lounging chairs.
Last time I was there the kitchen was not operating.
I think it may just be close for remodeling, but you are in a nice area full of restaurants and easy beach access right across the road.
This is like a hidden gem in Negril.
Family owned and operated.
All of the bathrooms had new tile put in about 4 years ago.
It is simply marvelous.
Tell them Markospoon from Chicago sent you and they will treat you like family and you will get a good deal on the room to boot.
Have fun!

Many thanks to all of you! I see there are quite a few options that would work. I think I may go with a resort that will let me split my stay between the beach and cliffs so I can experience both worlds. Now, the real challenge is finding decent airfare out of NY this summer...prices are really high. Again many thanks!
