Legends for $37 a night in September...
Through Otel.com...I've never used them before, anyone else? Was thinking to have a room on the beach for only $512 for two weeks would be a pretty decent price..garden view would that be across the street? Still worth it for that price..

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Actually, it would be from August 18th to September 1st..but for $37 a night except last night is $31 for some reason, but that's a really good price..

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
garden view would be across the street. That is a good price, I wonder if there is a catch? You could also take advantage of the daily bus to Samsara--even if you didn't want to hang at Samsara, it would get you to the cliffs and back for free.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
peak of Hurricane season thus the low rates........so it's pot luck..........
generally speaking I don't travel to the Caribbean from August 15th till October 1st.......
gotta enuff chit to worry about back home in Florida then.......

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
yah, I know I'm taking my chances, but I feel it's worth it. :)
Now I'm really thinking about Legends..I know it's basic, but they say the $512 is taxes and everything..

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I think legends would be fine for that price--and it is not a bad location. I have never stayed there but hung out there before when I was staying at Samsara and took the shuttle down. The thing I didn't like was on their little piece of beach they have the chairs lined up like sardines in a can--I tried to move one a little ways to have some personal space and got chided by the guard. But during low season it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Not crazy about Legends. Poor customer service.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
okay, don't just leave it at that, gerry, now you have to say more! ;)

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Well, I don't want to be too harsh, but there's a reason why the place is ranked pretty low on TA .... Three trips ago, I hung out there a lot, and the AC broke down twice, there were issues with the AI package (this would not affect you probably), and they charge you for every little thing where they can.
Plus, you're right, it was very crowded on beach, the beds were not particularly comfortable, and it's a pretty deep walk from the rooms across the street (down a pathway) to the beach. But on the plus side, the security is a strong point, and you've Shayne, my fav cabbie, hangin in front for most of the days.
I think APPLE has Legends in its choices, so you get a lot of travelers who don't do much research, just push the button for the cheapest place that's right on the beach w AC, though the lowest rates are actually from across the street. Garden view means across the street, and I feel that's a bit vague and tricky of them -- not a good first impression, and I always like to go with my instincts.
But it's NOT a TERRIBLE place. Oh yeah, one other thing: Taboo is right next door, and they play music LOUD LOUD LOUD till 3 a.m. on some nights.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
hmm..thanks for the info..I'm thinking about cost, but at the same time, if it was just cost I wouldn't want to be on the beach...and the hard beds thing isn't the first time I've heard that and I am not incredibly picky with beds, but they do have to be at least fairly comfortable..

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I know you like an on-site pool, but I still think you should give Bar B Barn a long look. The rooms and beds are nice, the AC is great, the food is amazing (at Angelas, the entrees are big enough to split into two meals), and best of all you ask them do something one time, and it gets DONE .... That's a nice thing in Negril.
Also, the three times I've stayed at BB Barn, there was an unofficial agreement with Coral Seas across the street that you could use their pool.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I'll definitely keep it in mind..I am getting really tempted to just budget like between $500 to $700 for a room for two weeks, then just wait until I get down there and see what I can get then, even though it would be something I've never done before and more than a little outside my comfort zone, I'm really considering it..

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Negrilaholic, I have stayed there once on a good deal. Not that bad, I have stayed at worse places that others had ranked high. It's clean, I liked the bar and good food. Beach was a problem for me ( but there is 7 miles of beach, you can hang out somewhere else) and A/C needed to be replaced long ago. Remember, It's hot hot in August. When you check in let them know you want a room with good A/C, breathing problem or something. For $37.00 a night, I say go for it. That is a great savings for another reach to JA. Hope this helps.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Negrilaholic,
Don't want to dis Gerry - but our experience with Legends was 180 degrees the opposite.. We were treated like gold there.. The staff was wonderful, and very responsive to our needs. The noise is a factor - but we always stayed on the "garden side" across the street where the noise is non-existent. Crossing the street is worth the privacy and quiet. There is also a large pool on that side that is usually pretty much unoccupied - a wonderful quiet place to relax! It is true the beach is small - erosion and all - but they have enlarged it by removing some of the deck. I have written a couple of reviews of the place on trip advisor.. We loved it - and I think you will too.. And at $37 a night you can't go wrong!

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I have never stayed there but my brother and sister stayed there while we were next door at Kuyaba. Basic inexpensive accommodations. My only complaint when hanging out with them was the bar. Any drink with "fruit" in it contained no actual fruit just flavored syrup. Not my idea of a good drink...

wow that is an awesome deal!

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
If you are not picky, and are just looking for a low rate....Legends shouldnt be a disappointment, just dont go with high expectations. I didn't actually stay there, I stayed at Samsara but took the shuttle down and used Legends as my "beach home" during the day. I agree with everything Gerry said. I didnt find the staff at either of their properties to be particularly friendly, but on the same note I don't have any actual complaints about their customer service. Found the accomodations to be adequate for a low budget hotel. Again, I didnt sleep at Legends so i can't comment on the noise level, but I did think that it was a nice part of the beach...right next to Bourbon Beach etc...

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Bourbon Beach has a special through the end of September - $50 per day but you get a $40 Food and Beverage credit each day. Take a look at their website - bbnegril.com

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I'm heading back to Legends for the 5th time in July. I can tell you that I have never had a bad experience there. It's basic but clean, great food and well worth the money. They have always been good to me and my family thats why I keep going back.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I tell ya, I did love their description of the eco-friendly boutique hotel at Bourbon Beach, lol! Only thing is, no ac, and can't do that in August..does anyone know anything about security there too? I mean, that is a pretty crowded place when there are parties going on, right?
Anyway, I'm still mulling over the possibilities, thanks for all the feedback! :)

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Boutique, bourbon beach + security? not 3 things I would put together but if the deal is true 50 per night with 40 back for food and drink maybe I would grab it! Otherwise I would definately do Legends gardenside

Just make sure you bring your own sand

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
too funny, i just read the entire bourbon beach site . . . hilarious . . . all my years of staying next door at bar b barn, did not know bourbon beach had rooms!!! . . . i just assumed it was occupied by local folks . . . not my cup of tea, i'd be terrified of actually sleeping there. just my two cents worth . . .

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I found the Bourbon Beach website last week and noticed the special. It seems like a steal. I thought Kevin did the whole website sort of "tongue in cheek" as it is quite funny. My friends who worked Bourbon Beach have tried to get me to stay there in the past. They do have a nice hot tub.
I too would be concerned about security....or the lack of security as I see it. As nice as the deal is..... I am passing.
-
Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I'd have to take a pass too on Bourbon Beach because of the very loud music would make it impossible to sleep plus the unknowing factor.
That Legends looks like the super deal to be had at $37 a night and anything under $65 is a deal too there and they have plenty of amenities there.

Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
I'd jump all over Legends for $37 a night. Just gotta have AC in August ;-) I learned quick my first August trip as I thought I could do without it...lol.
I got a package deal in August a couple years ago...Airfare and hotel. After subtracting the airfare cost my stay at Samsara was only $15 a night >>>> best deal ever ;-)
-
Re: Legends for $37 a night in September...
Jamaica rule of thumb: Never rent a room without AC, whether it be August or January on the shore of the Cliffs with a cool wind.
