I am considering AirTran out of Baltimore to Montego Bay. Anyone care to share experiences? I am interested in opinions on reliability, etc. I have read some negative reviews on other sites which gives me some concern? Thanks for your input

My husband flew Air Tran weekly for a year. I can count on one hand how many times his flight got in at the correct time. He was often hours late. There was also the time they abandoned us and our young kids over night at the Newark airport without so much as a bag of chips or an I'm sorry. And it was totally their fault. We passengers about rioted, the police had to be called. As another FU to all the passengers they made us leave the terminal sonwe spent the night guarding our kids and fending off scam artists and theives. We had the chance to take AirTran on our upcoming reach to Negril, we paid more to fly ANYONE but them. Sorry my review isn't better but I consider AirTran no better than Spirit.
I fly Airtran once in awhile, when I can get a deal. Longer flight, but I figure I am going to Jamaica, :). I always hear travelers in the airport saying their flights where cancelled, etc. But where given good vouchers. I'm on Airtran for my August trip, about $300.00US cheaper, wish me luck.
I have taken the AirTran BWI direct to MoBay flight many times and never have had any issues.
We flew airtran to Montego Bay with a 50 minute layover in Orlando and paid $480.00. We didn't really have an issue except on the way back they said there would be someone directing us where to go when we got off of our plane in Orlando and there wasn't. It wasn't an issue going down because the connecting plane was right next to the one we just got off. We got a little lost in the airport but it all worked out. Flying again with them back to Jamaica in 4 days!! I hope all goes well. This trip is only costing us $380.00 per round trip ticket with a 40 mintue layover in Orlando again. I heard the horrow stories, in fact it happened to a friend just last week, there was a delay and they missed their connecting flight, didn't arriave in Mobay till 11pm. I guess we have gotten lucky. I can't afford any other airline as I found them to be the cheapest, even with the baggage fees and choosing your own seat fees. Good luck to you!
Have used them for the past 3 years...haven't had a single problem. They have always been on time for arrival, and just a couple of delays prior to take off, but no real problems. They will soon be apart of Southwest though.
Using their direct flight in 25 days... they better get me there within a good time! :) I'm not really worried!
We used them last winter to fly out of Milwaukee to Sarasota, FL and had excellent service. Sorry that others have had a rough experience with them but we had not one issue. Got through the whole ticket process and to the terminal very quickly and everything on time....was very happy with them.
We fly AirTran almost 100% of the time ............. between the two of us, at least 15 round trips a year to / from MKE ........ some with a stop in ATL but mostly non-stops ........... majority of flights to RSW in Florida and this spring to MBJ ................ never had an issue except for one planes on which the A/C was a little week ......... many of our flights have actually left the gate early and arrived at destination early ............. AirTran seems to start the boarding process earlier then most so when the last passenger gets onboard they are ready to rock and roll ................ all the customer service people have been friendly and helpful but then we are flying to and from friendly cities ............. I did notice the one bad review had to do with Newark airport .............. maybe it was the city more then the actual airline ................ not looking forward to the proposed Southwest / Airtran merger ............ two completely different coporate policies .............. business class vs all one class ............ free luggage vs paid luggage .......... etc....
My wife flies on Air Tran almost every week and has for years. No airline is perfect but Air Tran does a great job and offers good prices.
I wouldnt hesitate because of a few people being late or complaining of lost luggage...lol. They serve thousands every day. Hard to make everyone happy....
If you fly often enough, your going to experience problems no matter which airline you are on.
If you have a connecting flight, try to leave yourself ample time (I prefer at least an hour), but if you are going direct, your odds of getting there fairly close to your scheduled time are greatly enhanced.
I flew them direct out of Orlando 2 years ago with no problems!
I flew airtran for the first time 3 weeks ago. We left out of Memphis to MBJ with a connection over ATL.
I have to say they impressed me. Every flight left the gate early and arrived at destination early.
Was on an american airlines connecting flight last week, every departure and arrival was late, along with
them taking 35 min in DFW to get the jetway to the aircraft. Seems to be the norm for them.
That Baltimore to Mobay Air Tran flight has been good for me. No problems and no lies about their prices. Direct in about 3 and 1/2 hours...wonderful. I decided to fly United back to Dulles direct. The ticket started out cheaper but ended up aabout $50. more when you choose a seat and check in your luggage
.....and some will complain no matter if you even hang 'em with a new clean rope!
Markus and I flew with Airtran on our first trip to Jamaica last year.
It was a smooth ride, there were no delays or complications.
Airtran is really budget basic. No frills... No TV screens in the seats or complimentary snacks... or anything like that.
We had a six hour layover, but it was a cheap ride so we had no complaints.:)
I fly Airtran everytime....with no problems...in or out of MBJ...Chicago to Atlanta, Atlanta to MoBay. I'm trying something different with my next reach...American direct to MBJ
As soon as Air Jamaica left BWI, AirTran became my choice airlines (only darn non-stop from our area). I've never had any problems with delayed flights or luggage missing. Next 2 trips booked already - Aug 2012 and Nov 2012.
If you are planning for August, I have an Event Savers code you can use for 10% off - let me know and I will post.
You have to call the AirTran Airways Event savers Desk at 1-866-683-8368 (ignore the recording as they are still honoring existing codes)
Monday - Friday 8am – 9pm
Tell them you want to make a reservation:
They will ask you for the Event code & Event Name: ZZMBJ072912 and Michelle's Bday Celebration
You get:
10% off of lowest available airtran airways fare
advanced seat assignments
one time waiver of change/cancel fee
reservations can be held up to 10 days without payment
I don't have the contract in front of me but the travel window is late July to something like August 15th
We've used Air Tran twice from(Before SW bought it and stopped flying out of Dallas-dang Wright Amendment)Dallas to Mo'Bay and never had an issue. We routed thru Atlanta once and Charlotte the other time. SW/Air Tran just announced a 215 Million Dollar expansion in Houston. They'll be adding gates and infrastructure to accommodate increased International flights in 2015! The Wright Amendment expires in mid 2014...YES!!!
First time used American & had to transfer out of Miami which I find to be a horrible airport to connect thru. Since then have used Airtran direct from Orlando to MoBay numerous times within the last year and never have had a problem. I think with the new regulations were they are watching the airlines departure times may have helped, but have always arrived early. No frills airline, but I'm usually too hyped up with the destination to care.
