Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
My family just purchased the plane tickets for their August trip!:D
This trip started out as an anniversary trip with only my Father and my Mother...
But then my 17 year old sister wanted to go...
And then my 26 year old sister wanted to go...
Then of course her boyfriend wanted to go too...
So Now it's official - My entire family is going to Jamaica!! - Without me!
(I can't get the time off from work. :( I'm not giving up all hope though.)
In the meantime, I've been helping my family plan for this trip. I'm super excited for them! My sisters have never been to Jamaica, so this will be a FIRST for them. The last time my Father and Mother traveled to Jamaica was back in 1974.
They are going for six days, The first 4 days at Catcha, and the last two days on the beach.
At first they were looking at the 3 bedroom villa at “Crystal Waters” (It's beautiful there! I fell in love with the place after visiting Indybob there in April)
But “Nirvana on the beach” has a wonderful 3 bedroom cottage on the beach as well and They are running a great summer special.
After corresponding with Lonnie, They decided to book “Nirvana on the beach”.
Has anyone stayed at "Nirvana on the beach"? How did you like it? Does anyone have any experience with Cottage 2#? how is the beach there? How were the rooms and the location of the resort – in regards to restaurants and nightlife? How is the security there? Do you have any pictures you could share?
Thank you guys for your help, I really appreciate it!:)
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
My lst stay 15 years ago was Nirvana and I truly loved it. Would go back there in a minute with my family and friends. I have not been there for about 12 years now, but it was very beautiful then and imagine it still would be. The Goldfrabs Lorney and Stan were great Hosts and actually lived on the property in the winters. They are from NY. So unless something has changed I would highly recommend Nirvana. Infact I have lot of folks coming down for my Wedding in January so now I better find out what availability they have for January and get these people booking their cottages!!! Bless Debbie D.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Hi Clarity, My wife and I have stayed at Nirvana and it is a wonderful property, great gardens, great beach and centrally located so you can walk either direction for restaurants and music. Security is not an issue.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Thanks Farmer Deb and Packrat for your feedback on Nirvana! I appreciate it!:)
I think this is going to be the perfect place on the beach for my family.
I know my sisters & Mother will love the vibe on the beach, I'm a little worried about my father. Glad to hear security is not an issue.
Do you remember what cottage you stayed at?
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
We've been there twice, last time 1/11, going back this Christmas. We've only stayed in the Owner's Villa, which is awesome. Not sure which cottage #2 is, but none of the cottages are directly on the beach, but only a few steps away.
The people that work there are great, the property is well taken care of and there is a huge beach for the small number of guests. Highly recommended.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
I toured it before and want to stay there for sure. Problem is, they haven't had availability when I have tried, which is a good sign. They might be HOT HOT Hot in the cottage as they have no AC.

Clarity
I sent you a music link ...look for the post!
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
We stayed in an upstairs loft type apt not in a cabin. I wouldn't worry about it being hot without a/c the cabins are set back in under some nice trees and in the garden so they don't get direct sun all day long and it is cool in the gardens at night.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
WE stay at Nirvana, I am very familiar with the it. I asked the manager for a tout while I was there in March, of all the units ( cottages/villas) I hadn't seen. I wanted to see in case someone just like you, asked this very question, as I am on a few Negril message boards.
Cottage #2 is on the road side of the "resort". It has 2 bathrooms, and is very spacious, with a large dining table. Good for more than 4 people. Tucked in the corner, its fairly private. All the cottages have screened in living areas, with lots of foliage, so its airy and feels like being outside.
Great staff, many have been there for 20 years, beautiful beach, double lot, security is wonderful, housekeeping daily, you cant go wrong.
:)
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Oh ya, could be hot in August. Cottage #5 ( the one we rent) is the coolest of all the cottages. And the closest to the beach. It has lots of shade. I would not depend on much breeze in August. Good ceiling fans in cottage#5
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Hi Clarity,
While we have not stayed at Nirvana, we did spend an afternoon there a couple of years ago. Our son made friends with another little boy on the beach, and his family invited us back to Nirvana for his birthday party. The property is really secluded, and shady. Like others have mentioned, the lack of A/C might be an issue for some. The party was mostly held outside in the garden, so it wasn't really an issue for us, but I did notice that when I went inside the cottage, it was quite hot. I am sure it would cool off a lot during the night though. The large screened in porch was nice, and the inside of the cottage although pretty basic and rustic, was very clean. They had a nice sized kitchen, dining table, and living area. Nirvana had arranged for a cook to prepare some meals for them in the cottage, so that seems like a really convenient and afforable option for your family to consider if they choose a night or two to stay in and eat. We got to enjoy some of that food during the party, and it was really good! I am not sure what number cottage they had, but it was set back from the beach on the other side of the garden, closest to the road. The security seemed pretty strict with the higglers, and I noticed they kept them from bothering any guests on the beach. It seems like a very private place to stay, yet still be on the beach. If I remember right, I think there was even a fence separating the beach from the cottages, with a little gate.
That is so sweet of you to help your parents plan this trip. I really hope you and Markus get to join the rest of your family on this special trip!
I have followed your trip reports, and I am so excited for your father to reunite with his Jamaican family after all these years! Just, wow!
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Clarity - I just checked Nirvan's website and it says that all bedrooms have ceiling fans. I usually stay with a local Jamaican family not too far down the beach from Nirvana, and there is no AC in their house and its only in the summer that the fans are even needed. Given that the cottages are located in a shady location, I think they will be fine with just the ceiling fans.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
We turned off the ceiling fans at night because it was cool in the evenings.
The fence is gone, Hurricane Wilma maybe? They just planted some new palm along the line of where the fence was. Plenty of shade for everyone, lots of room to spread put and have privacy.
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
HI clarity, I'm in Jamaica now, it's heaven...I stayed at nirvana last sept, it's a great spot, a beautiful property, and some of the best security on the beach. I posted lots of pics, maybe you can search my threads for them.

Check out the link to youtube....I made a video of the grounds from when we stayed in March. It's not a professional video but will definetly give you a really good idea of the place.
We're heading back again in July...can't wait!
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been sick with a bad case of the flu. I'm feeling a lot better today though.
Thanks Eden, BCBud, Lady Jane, Orchid, Dan & Sue, Saeydoc, Booger, Packrat for all of your helpful feedback on Nirvana, I've shared it with my family and they appreciated too! Hopefully the lack of AC wont be too much of a problem in August... you mentioned it is shaded, so that's a good thing. They can always dive into the ocean to cool off if it gets too hot. I have a feeling they are really going to love it there.
Thank you Dan & Sue for sharing that link to your video tour of Nirvana. That was awesome and really helpful to give my family a real feel for the whole layout of the resort!!
I'm really excited for them (and admittedly a little jealous. I want to go too!) I know this will be a very special and much needed vacation for my family. It's the first trip they are taking together since my brother passed away. My father is really looking forward to re-connecting with his family after all these years.
I'm going to try to convince my sister to join Negril.com and write a trip report when she gets back! She is a much better writer than I am. You'll be in for a treat :)
Thank you so much everyone!!:D
Re: Has anyone stayed at Nirvana On The Beach?
P.S. Thanks Fun in the Sun, Now I'm going to look for that music link you mentioned! :)
