Me and my fiancee will be traveling to Negril in April 2013 and we were really hoping to get a private taxi for the week. We are both in our early 20's and would really like a taxi that caters to the party side of being on vacation in Negril. So any refrences would be much appreciated!
Hey Joe- congrats on the engagement! Have you been to Negril before? I assure you the 'taxi experience' is part of the fun! Save your loot for red stripes! Its super simple-look for a red plate and just hail em down. For excursions outside of Negril- I would say have someone already in mind to contact.
Ive met alot of funny cats hailing them down off the streets- just adds to the whole jamaica experience jah know
The best was SHABBA- who pulled over and we had a late night dance party in the middle of the road hahaha

Hey Joe. Your request will not be cheap. Good drivers bring home somewhere around 20000J a day in Jamaica. If you're still interested, try Leon at Coolrun Productions. He can be reached at 876-773-1472. Leon is a stand up guy and doesn't mind you drinking or smoking in his new van. Good luck.

of course. competition is tough out there -- Shayne works all day and night, and if he cant be there within ten minutes, he sends a fellow cabbie .... He is very cool and negotiates -- i always tell him he starts too high, lol -- and he knows a lot of peeps .... Chunkey is older, he has a nice van, and shayne has a corolla type car ....

Although, I didn't get this info in time to go, my yoga instructor and previous Negril resident highly recommended Chunky as well. I intend to use him when I go next time as he has such a good rep.
I would recomend Ever's Taxi Service 876-425-9158. Very reasonable & SAFE!
Gerry G, Do you have an email for either of the 2 drivers you mentioned?
dont have emails for these two -- they don't go on the Net as much in Negril, it seems.
JoeVa - I add my congrats on the impending marriage.
Murph stated it pretty well. But just to expound - the route taxi system in Negril makes it so that a private taxi is rarely needed just doing things IN NEGRIL.
The few exceptions that come to mind - are a big grocery trip, or if running errands and have several stops - other than that, rarely needed.
You will need, and should pre-arrange, your Airport Transfers. Many recommended here - Clive's, Rocky, etc. just do a quick search on here for "Airport transfer".
Also, you will need private transportation if you take any of the excursions out of Negril - like to YS Falls, Appleton Rum Factory, Black River, Roaring River, etc. Again, a few searches will quickly give you a long list of safe recommendations.
Other than that - you'll pretty much be throwing your money away with a Private Driver just bar-hopping or going to restaurants or attractions just in Negril.
If we haven't convinced you yet - I'd suggest you wait until you are here, and see what we mean by the route taxis - then decide.
Do some searches on here if not familiar with route taxi - but really quick is just $100JA/person (about $1.15) anywhere along the beach to town center, another $100JA/person anywhere along Cliffs to town center. You just watch for them - hail, hop in, hop out, pay the $100JA and tip if you want.
