Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
The first time I extended a trip past the planned departure day, it was on the seventh and final day, and I just KNEW I could not go back .... yet.
The extension of five more days cost me a pretty penny, but god was it worth it. I never enjoyed myself more because it was all about ME and what I wanted to do. Best money I ever spent.

LOL. If you are now permanent I guess you really cannot call that an extension.

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
First time I extended my stay was my second trip to Jamaica, but my first to Negril. 2 days before we were suppose to leave...extended 3 more days. That was in the 90's and have gone back every year since...and many years went twice!! Coming up upon #28 and still as excited as ever!! Maybe even more, truly a great love story with Jamaica. December can't come quick enough for me! Bring....it....on!!!!!!

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
First time we were doing funjet or apple or one of those on a charter and just couldn't go home on Friday, our per day room cost was cheap and there was another flight Monday but during a trip of inquirey to the charter office in Iron Shore I was told we would have to fly stand by and I would need $100.00 cash U.S., what the heck we were in love in Jamaica the risk of standby was on. Arriving at the airport (this was when they would walk you directly from a counter out through those quonson hut type things and you would board front and back stairs from the tarmac) I quickly noticed there were more passengers than seats and as I left my name for standby I mentioned to deaf ears that I had my 100 bucks and I began to wonder if we were going to make this flight. I wandered back over and sat on my suitcase and began to watch as my 10 days in Jamaica mind began to turn,,,,, it seemed that a couple workers were reporting to one person and then those folks would report to another and then those to the guy in the tie that seemed to be the top gun. And as our chances of flying today (and now I did need to go home) seemed to dwindle and nobody from the stand by que was being called it hit me,,,,,,, a hundred bucks,,,,,, so I wrapped my cash into my hand and walked up the man in the tie and reached out and grabbed his hand in a 2 handed handshake and said sir I love your Island but I really need to go home today,,,,, and as I walked back towards my bags my cash stayed with him,,,, moments later we were called and ushered out to seats 1a and 1b on the plane (wasn't first class, these were the old charters that had the front row facing a bulk head from what seemed about a foot away) and as the door closed behind a couple that settled into the last seats on the plane next to us the husband leaned over and said "thank god I was watching you, the staff at the hotel told me I would need a hundred U.S. but nobody told us how to use it". If you love Jamaica let me see your hands,,,,,

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
Wow Chet & Coleen, loves those kinda of stories!
The first and only time I extended just happened a few months ago. Never have been able to do it before because of having to go back to work but always had 3 weeks at a time 2-3 times a year so can't complain. This last time though, no job to go back to (starving student now). My best friend called me a few days before I was supposed to leave and decided that she would change my flight; she did it before she called. All arranged and I got 3 and a half more weeks (6.5 in total)! Nice little surprise from one of the best people I know....she knows how much I love Jamaica and how happy I am when I am there! She just wanted me to be happy so made the arrangements!

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
Never extended, but I do know a certain somebody (ROB) that knows a Doctor who will write a note about an ear ache that needs a few more days to heal before it is safe to fly again..... :)
One time I arrived home and decided I needed to go back, a week later I was in Negril.
Enjoy,

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
On one trip I made it to the airport and decided I wasn't ready to leave. I knew my flight was sold out so I assumed they would be looking for folks to be bumped. I volunteered at the check-in counter and lucky enough they were looking for people. I told them they could have my seat if they put me on a flight 2 days later. It must have been my lucky day as they gave it to me. I spent the next day and the following day chilling at an all inclusive.
I volunteer on every return flight and so far was only offered one more time but my travel mate didn't want to.

I think i'd have to chunk deuces at the travel mate....as in Peace out. LOL

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
I have extended a few times at the last minute (it is always so hard to come back). One time I was on antibiotics that were prescribed to me in JA and gave American Airlines a note from the doctor--I could have flown, sure--but there were documented "complications" I was having with the meds which granted me a few more days till travel and free ticket change. Other time I paid 125 to change flights and stay 3 more days--totally worth it IMO. But I did gain a bit of a reputation at work and brows furrowed when I said I was going to Jamaica (yet again)--coworkers wondered when and if I would come back.

Happy, me & Bad just saw this one. We both melted and smiled to each other and said "remember those days?". Right now me and Bad are crushing some Stripes and deep conversation about that trip, not only the earache excuse but the 1st night we all met each other. We closed down the Escape concert (in stylish fashion i might add) and then mi-yard. My friend hope all is well, and we miss you. Myself and Bad are both re-living our adventures and hope that our paths can cross again. Somehow they will!:)

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
My third trip was really an impulse. It was November 2007 and I found out that through the courts system most of the money that was stolen from me ended up getting paid back in a lump sum..turned out there was a large amount of cash on the guy when he was arrested, and I got a share of that, so used it to take a trip back to Negril, staying at a nice likkle place called Right Vibes. It was really such a blessing to me to be able to go back and use the money that I would have spent on my July trip (was robbed a day before that trip) for my November trip. :)
And this year, I was just going to do "only" two weeks, but once I got my half of some lottery winnings, took that money and decided to extend it by another week, making this coming stay 21 days...after last year's stay of 26 days, nothing else would suffice, lol! :D

That would be me...........lol
I went in May for the first time this year for 10 days, fell in love all over again, went back 3weeks later for 7 days.
Going in Oct for 2 weeks, but decided to take one more trip before Oct in 2weeks for another 10 days, but my excuse for going so much is I need to go as often as I can because I'm trying to move there next year.lol

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
Does it count if you extend while booking? We decided 10- 12 days max and without discussion I upped it to 15 days while booking, lol. What can I say, I got a sweet deal at our crash pad of choice and I needed 14 days to get it.

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
Actually, when I extended, I originally wanted to add like three more days, but the configuration of the days/prices made it logical to extend five days instead cause it was worth it on the flight. Oh well, I guess you got to go with the flow, right?

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
My trip in march was originally supposed to be the March 3-10 w/ a friend.. after that friend backed out i no longer had restrictions on the dates so i added 2 days to the front of my trip making it march 1-10.... When i got to negril after seeing some friends i was informed that i was leaving on the day of a big concert and i was going to miss all of the fun.. Iriesistah gets the credit for convincing me to add one more day.. making this trip march 1-11.. and in the end it was all worth it... i got to meet some great people at that concert..Beenie Man and Kantana =)

Been there done that, 3 times actually:
Fell in love with JA on first trip in 1995. On the morning of our planned departure from T-Water Beach Hotel we just couldn't do it. Called AA and extended from 5 days to the maximum possible of 8 days. (Had a plane to catch back to Europe from New York on day 9). :)
Second extension was of sixth trip in 1999. After 3 weeks in Jamaica, I got one of those legendary ear infections and had to stay another week. However, nobody talked me into this or sent me to the doctor. Only got myself to blame! ;)
Third extension was of trip #20 in 2010. Again after three weeks in Jamaica, I just felt I needed another few days. So that time I contacted my boss and let him know I was staying 4 more days.
Seems like the longer my trip was, the harder it was to go back home. :-) Usually I am staying between 10 and 17 nights and make it back home as planned. Except for the very first time (5 days were just too short) and on the two occasions I was staying 21 nights. lol
These days I am travelling with my baby boy. He is 16 months now and has already seen Jamaica 3 times! His trip #4 will be my #26, hopefully this coming October.
Btw, on my 25 trips, there was one occasion when the airline was looking for volunteers to stay behind... Hotel paid for until next available departure date. Did not dare to accept, because I had still been quite new at my job back then. Of course when I told the story at work afterwards, everybody said I should have done it!

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
We extended our stay once, just by one day but it only cost $50 bucks to change the plane ticket, the room was available, we had one extra day of vacation anyway, and we just werent ready to leave. it was an impulse and we acted on it. We were thrilled to have the extra time. its great when you can be that flexible.

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
I have dreams (almost nightmares of having to leave) that I am doing everything I can to extend my stay. I did check into it this trip, but the price difference was too much. I did get an earache this trip....guess I should have tried that avenue! Man I am missing Jamaica right now!

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
It was the first time I stayed with my friend in Sav...about 2 days before I was to leave I was standing on the verandah and got real sad and yelled out I DON"T WANT TO LEAVE YET!!! I asked him if I could stay longer and before he could finish the word YES I had Airtran on the line extending my departure date. I think I stay an extra 3 days.

I think so - it happened for me when I was booking my upcoming November trip although it was just by a day.

Re: Share your story of extending a Negril trip on impulse!
My first trip was in Feb 04. My husband's cousin was staying with a dozen friends cliffside at Villa Sur Mer (back when the big house was affordable!) She kept telling me about it & how much I would love it. My husband didn't want to go & I didn't know her friends, only knew they were big drinkers and wasn't sure I was up for a week of all that. I booked at the last minute from Saturday to Thursday to be safe. The bedrooms at the villa were filled, so I stayed across the street at the LTU villas (now Catcha Gardens). I absolutely fell in love with JA & the group I was with was a riot! On Wednesday I was so sad to leave & they said , 'You can't leave, we haven't voted you off the island yet!' So, I called the airline. There was 1 seat left & I got it, which allowed me to fly home with the rest of the group on Saturday. Then I had to call my husband to tell him I was staying 3 more days. I guess if he wanted me home on Thursday he should've come with me in the first place!! His loss in many ways because the peace I felt on that trip made me realize how miserable I was with him & I ended up filing for divorce less than a year later. I have carried a piece of JA in my heart & inner peace in my soul every day since.
