It was a blast...

I’m sitting here with a bag of ice on my still swollen stingray stung foot (It happened Thursday and it was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever been in)… I’ve gotten sick from the antibiotics I was given for infection, and yet all I can think about is “How do we get back to Negril?” I knew it was going to be a special trip because it was mine & Gary’s (aka Greg... hehehe) first time there… but boy was I in for a surprise. My husband and I went back to the time before marriage & kids… back to dating. We dated for a whole week in the most beautiful place ever. He made me laugh so much, both under the influence and not, that I had to take ibuprofen for a sore throat! It was so wonderful to see him transformed into the 25 year old I met 15 yrs ago (minus some hair & adding some weight). We met the most awesome people… from the Boardies to the Cabbies to the Cleaning ladies. How do I go back to real life… it’s gonna be hard! Gary had to go back to work today, and our phone conversations have been about our next trip. He is different… a good different. It makes my heart smile.

It may take me some time to get up enough stamina to write a trip report without crying, b/c I want everyone to understand how much fun and laughter we had. I don’t want to be all boo hooey in my report ! So be patient… I’m not that great at writing anyway.

I also just wanna say TFW73 and her hubby were an awesome duo to be with. We were "country come to town" in the best way possible, and it was like we had been friends forever. We never skipped a beat!

Aww Steph I'm glad it lived up to expectations and I'm fact exceeded them! We had so much fun with y'all too! We were like the dynamic duo times two haha! It really was like we had known y'all forever! I think CARL has a man crush on GREG lol! That made our week. It doesn't feel the same without y'all. Our running buddies have left us :(

C says you can stop milking that injury for attention now cause its video evidence or it didn't happen! Haha!

I would like to hear more about the stingray bite? I never heard of any one getting bit by a stingray. That kind of scares me. How and where did it happen?

It was at Pelican Bar. Totally my fault b/c I wasn't looking where I was going! I was turned around "concerned" for a friend... cough, cough! :) All I know is that Jesus is not the only one to have walked on water now! I'm alive and well... If it happens, the best thing is hot water/bath! Takes the pain away instantly. Antibiotics are a good idea as well. You won't die.. I promise!

She already knows! :) It was all good. Kinda made things more interesting :) ... not really, but I'd like to make the best of it! I promise my consumption of the good stuff did not waiver... once I got in the hot bath that is!

I’m so happy that you such an amazing time in Negril! I just knew that you would! I know what you mean about how it changes you! I also can relate to how hard it is to leave. I hate that drive back to MoBay airport…My eyes fill up with tears every time.
The only cure for Post Negril Syndrome is booking a flight back to the Island ASAP!;)

I had already decided to never swim in the waters around Pelican Bar after my sea urchin experience, but your Stingray story completely cemented that decision for me. Wild horses couldn’t drag me into those waters again. Nooooooo way!!

Garystep1019...Please correct me if this is incorrect. You were stung by the stingray....not bitten.....correct?

Sting Rays are generally docile but will usually only sting a human from their tail if stepped on. Its a defense mechanism. I've hand fed sting rays many times & never been bitten. Even put my hand in the mouth....lol. I'm just trying to get an understanding as to what happened since some in this thread seem to have a sting and a bite confused. ;) A sting ray will not go out of their way to hurt someone & shouldn't be feared.

I hope you get to be feeling better soon!!

Yes I was stung. I just never corrected anyone that said bitten bc I assumed it was a misuse of a word. I certainly don't think it was an aggressive thing... I was in his/her territory. This certainly won't keep me from the ocean though! Maybe make me more cautious ;)

Thanks for the clarification ;) I'm sure its a nasty sting. My sister was stung as a kid and I remember what she went through.

Maybe someday you can visit someplace like Sting Ray City and see how cool a creature they really are! I've seen more places like that popping up around the Caribbean.

I've been stung in Negril maybe 10 years ago. Hurt pretty bad, but managed to still have a great time. Gotta' remember to do the stingray shuffle.

Ouch, Steph! Glad the sting didn't keep you from enjoying your trip. I've been stung by jelly fish before, but I can only imagine how much more painful your sting was! Feel better!

We fed the stingrays and they even gave us kisses, which we were told is good luck! lol

Hey Steph we've been wondering how you were doing, so glad you survived. :) I had no doubt you were in pain, so glad your doing better. It was great meeting ALL of you, we had a blast on the Rocky Thursday trip. We arrived home late last night & on our way home we discussed what dates were booking for next summer :confused: I will tell you this RIU was to far down from 7ml beach although we managed to spend most our time on 7ml. WHAT A BLAST WE HAD!!!!

Vacation for us is usually best in July if something changes we'll let you guys know. BTW~ You didnt ruin a thing, it could have happened to ANY OF US! We had talked with another couple & there daughter had the samething happen in the same place last summer CRAZY HUH?!?! Alice will freak when I tell her ... we were in the water and saw a huge ray close by - I tell you, we walked on water we got out of there so fast! I think it was the Thursday, too - so maybe it was the same sea-varmint!

Good heavens, Steph, we are gonna have to double up on the boardies guarding you - in a week you left your bag at the Seastar on the pub crawl and then got stung by a ray ....
but even so, you've got the itch! You wanna go back, right? I love it!
