Familiar with Ivan's, rock house, pushcart, 3 dives. Looking for a new place. A nicer place would be good. Blue mahoe looks good and so does Annie's at moon dance. Recommendations?

Blue Cave Castle - Teddy's Hideaway
Xtabi
Thanks...called blue mahoe and gonna try that tonight. I'll put those other two on the short list!
If you have eaten at all the other places listed then you are surely having one heck of a nice trip, those are all of my faves.
Haven't tried Blue Mahoe though so please let us know what you thought of it
Enjoy!!
You need to go to Pressley's for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it doesn't look like much, but neither did any other place we went!!!
Ask for John Wayne one of the chef's and if you can tell him Sweetness says hello......try the coconut shrimp appetizer and the steak is off the hook!!!! lovely place! ENJOY and please let us know what you had and how you liked it!
Yes mon I think so.....we saw him at one of our outings to De Bar when we were all there..............great smile.
He came out and spoke to us. Food was wonderful, had the coconut shrimp app and the tomato and mozzarella salad. I had lobster and husband had curried shrimp. That place is beautiful!
Marley, yep all this trip! I'm tired of eating lol! Kuyaba was last night and it was the best so far. We are still trying to locate a bowl of pumpkin soup though!!
Hit up Garfield or Sanjay at Catcha and they will whip up some pumpkin soup. LTU also has it if you haven't been there yet..
I have had really good pumpkin soup at:
Xtabi
Ras Roddys
LTU
but my favorite is now at Catcha (shocking I know), previously it was LTU
Here is another vote for Teddys Hideaway at the Blue Cave Castle. If you go tell him Ed & Donna say hi. Also we really enjoyed Ciao Jamaica across from Samsara.
It's not on the cliffs, but the BEST pumpkin soup I had in Negril, bar none, was at Lingah By The Sea which is located at Negril Beach Club Condos on the beach...it was simply incredible.

Kuyaba has the best we have ever had but they were serving peppa shrimp soup the other night. Never been to LTU. What's on the menu and is it reasonable? Blue Mahoe was expensive lol.
LTU is reasonable
We always order pumpkin soup and chicken lola so I can't tell you much about what else is on the menu, I don't think I ever even look at it, I just order pumpkin soup and chicken lola
YUM!
hahaha
Lol ok thanks!
I don't even like Pumpkin, but I love pumpkin soup in Jamaica! They had a great version at The Caves last visit.
I've had good pumpkin soup on the beach at Idle Awhie and Rondel.
We are at LTU right now. The soup was good! Trying the chicken Lola also.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(also, I am jealous) lol
I wonder why you don't see Pumpkin soup on more menu's in the US. So many people are missing out on such a good thing! ;)
Oooh I agree Mr Twister
There is a restaurant in Clearwater called GrillSmith that has "Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque" and it is TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than that I can really only get it at the Jamaican restaurants or in the packets at the caribbean food markets.
Raul has done a pretty great job though recreating it at home! Lucky me!
I bring a bunch of those pumpkin soup packets home with me......but not nearly as good as the fresh made. I'm sure the caribbean air doesnt hurt the taste any....lol.
Haven't tried making it fresh yet...........but will :D
Yeah, the packets are definitely not quite the same
But I think the real trick is that everything in Jamaica is so fresh, all the fruits and veggies and everything, so fresh and sooooooooooooo good!
I think it's not the same kind of pumpkin, either. I liked last night but preferred kuyaba's.
I could be wrong but I always thought in JA pumpkin is what we call squash
It's in the same family as squash. The pumpkins in Jamaica are the green pumpkin
Jamaican pumpkin is definitely not the same as what we refer to as the Jack-o-lantern pumpkins, the ones we carve at Halloween or make pies out of....the ones in Jamaica are defintely much more like a squash
Ah you are correct
It appears the west indian pumpkin is actually also known as the Calabaza Squash

Most I have seen were green but from this article it appears they range in color
:)
That was a good lesson, but now I REALLY want some pumpkin soup!
I just want some rice & beans!!!!!!
Where was your favorite rice and beans, garysteph?
I <3 Pumpkin soup
LOL
Yes...yes you do :)
Well the first night I had them was at Seastar... I thought, "Damn these things are good!" But then I had them at 3 Dives and thought.... "Oh these are awesome!" So I'm gonna go with 3 Dives... but I liked it every time I had it, which in JA is with every meal (almost)! Apparently they cook them with coconut milk. I liked everything I ate down there, and I'm pretty freakin' picky! I DID NOT like the Akee & Saltfish breakfast at Catcha...blaahhhhh! Although it looked pretty on my plate!
I agree, I love everything down there too......but funny enough I don't eat fish, so I never order the ackee and saltfish meal.
But I love the rice and peas (beans) especially because they are cooked in coconut milk. I love 3 dives also but my favorite is probably the rice and peas at Pushcart because you can really taste the coconut milk, the rice just melts in your mouth.
I am not sure I have ever had a bad meal in Jamaica.....but I have had some that were over the top amazing!
I will eat some for you tonight lol
I am enjoying eating vicariously through you, tfw!
Thanks :)
Enjoying it too...until I step on the scale when I get home haha!!
