Disney shot the Cannibal Island sequence for 20,000 leagues under the Sea in Negril in 1954. Many locals became extras for that scene. If you watch the movie, you will notice some of the Cannibals are having a difficult time keeping a straight face.
I would like to find some more footage of the beach pre 1960. You will notice that the beach is not very wide at this time.
maybe when I watched this movie as a kid, it planted the seeds of desire for Negril.

I was staying on the beach the day Gilbert came through in 1988, and nearly all the trees, not just the coconut trees, were knocked down. That was one mean storm...
