Red Stripe Crisis

So we are having a birthday party tomorrow for huz and it has a Jamaican theme (all part of my campaign to get back to Negril). Every day this week I've stopped by a different store to pick up some Red Stripe and alas, nobody has any. This afternoon I called all around the state (and the one immediately north) and nobody has any. Did the factory burn down or something? At least I have Appleton for the rum punch.

In other news, I have a rum cake in the oven and I'm about to start making the coconut cupcakes (which I will decorate with tiny toothpick Jamaican flags), patties and marinade for jerk chicken.
Now to finish our playlist and hang up these flags...

Oh - and I just have to say, the rum cake smells so good.

sbeth.....it sounds like SO MUCH FUN...... any chance you could post some pics for us? please wish "Huz" (love that name) a HAPPY HAPPY Birthday for all of us. I am feelin the love of Jamaica at your house all the way here in Austin LOL. ONE LOVE

There has been a problem with the distributors of Red Stripe in my state - Wisconsin. My local liquor store always has 12 packs of bottles for $12.99 - a good deal, but for about three weeks they were out, and said it was back ordered by the distributor.

Is it because Red Stripe is getting so popular in the States?

Red Stripe has recently displayed a revived marketing campaign in the states. I live on the East Coast and the frequency of commercials has gone up 100 Fold in the last few months. I wonder if this will be permanent, or if it is only a summer thing.

They had a big marketing campaign a few years back as well, but then it went away.

Not sure if it has been the same elsewhere.

And they have started brewing Red Stripe in the states!!!! If you go to pick up a 12 pack and notice it is now in a cardboard (not thick paperboard) box with different labeling than usual, it is brewed in the US. The box now says "jamaican style lager" and doesn't say imported. It is being brewed in Latrobe PA!!!

hmm didn't realize that. i have noticed that it doesn't taste quite the same here. i thought it was due to freshness

Have you also noticed the bottles are smaller? 11 oz now.

Latrobe is where Rolling Rock is made. I wonder if they are contract brewing it?

Latrobe hasn't brewed rolling rock in years. anheuser busch bought the operation and moved it to New Jersey. Probably old plant though.

we can get Red Stripe easily in larger grocery stores in Georgia...have you tried there?

just got a case on saturday, its imported from jamaica, bottle is size is 11.2 oz. Stay Thirsty My Friend!

My bottle say imported from jamaica also, but i did google it and there was a business week article about Red Stripe being brewed in Latrobe.

I live in Indianapolis and usually get my Red Stripe from Walmart but they haven't had any for month's.
Found a big supply at Sam's Club!

Yea the stuff we get in Ark is brewed in PA .... not da same!!

I might get lynched for saying this.... but I'm not a big fan of beer, ergo I don't like Red Stripe...

Now I'll sit in the corner and drink some nice Appleton rum...

Sorry I've been slacking on the picture from the party. I'll get on that soon. Interesting about the differences about Red Stripe across the US though. I just assumed our problem was due to us being in Utah, land of ridiculous liquor laws until I tried Idaho and had no luck there either.

Flipadelphia - For the jerk? After rubbing the chicken with lime, I marinaded in a mixture of Appleton rum, olive oil and Walkerswood Jerk Seasoning (the wet stuff, in the jar).

Thanks Sweetness! I had fun finding all the flags - especially the wee ones on the toothpicks that we stuck in the coconut cupcakes.

Looks like a great party! Love all the flags. I may copy a few of your ideas. That food made my mouth water. :cool:
