FYI: Last day of Westjet sale. @420 P/P RETURN TAX IN. For select dates
Thanks dash. From Saskatoon in Feb, 2013 it's $402.28 tax in. The problem being it's a next day arrival with an overnight in Toronto. That makes it much less attractive than it would be otherwise. For me, I'll just wait for something direct.
Craig, doesn't ' t sunwing give you guys direct flight? They usually have some deals on the net.
Yes Sunwing does offer direct flights which we used last year and may use again this reach. I was hoping Westet would offer direct flights like they did late last year but nothing is posted yet. I called them in June and was advised the 2013 schedule would be posted in late August. I'm still waiting. :(
Heard westjet went with more directs from Sask to Vegas and Phoenix this year......:(
Booked the seat sale last night $503 tax in!
Booked for 8 days in January at Treehouse with flight at 430$ Montreal-Mobay with stop in Toronto. YES!!!!!
Slim pickings for direct flights to MBJ from Saskatoon. Mexico flights are a dime a dozen unfortunately! Was going to use Sunwing for my Nov & Apr trips but then they were pulled for those months. I was considering waiting until closer to departure to get an affordable sale price. Regular price is well over $1000 pp. I signed up for alerts - Air Transit had a good sale ($550 pp) with great times in Jan/feb a while back, wish I could have taken advantage of it, but already overextending myself with my two planned trips.
It's rare to find a decent price from Saskatoon with WJ or AC for a flight with good times and only 1 stop each way. The good prices involve 2 or even 3 connections - that is just too much for me. Often you'll have a layover of only 9 hours, which means very little time in your hotel room (which of course adds to the expense unless you can use reward miles), then you have an early flight to Calgary and then you have a wait of several hours to get on your Saskatoon plane. Ugh, did that once where I spent well over 24 hrs of one weekend from setting out for the airport until finally arriving at YXE. Was exhausted and needed a holiday after my vacation.
I ended up booking AC in June for both my upcoming trips. One connection each way of course but good times allowing 14 hours for the one overnight and the return flight has us arriving home just after midnight. Used reward miles for the one night hotel each trip. Nov trip was $845 pp tax in and April was $743 pp tax in. Not stellar pricing but a good compromise between price and good flight times
Melody...WestJet has direct flights from Wpg...might be able to connect rather than overnight...or sleep in our new airport which is just as nice as a hotel! Our Sask friends generally fly form the Peg...
Thanks nicollet - yes, our February trip, we connected in Winnipeg which was very pleasant (thru AC). Left Saskatoon at 9 a.m., had a couple of hours to wander around Wpg airport and have lunch, then off to MBJ around 1:30 p.m. I've seen a few configurations through Winnipeg upcoming, but I believe the MBJ flights I've seen for my dates leave early in the morning. Would be great if we could just leave Saskatoon a couple of hours earlier than that, but all the choices I've seen involve a red eye, or flying to Edmonton or Calgary, then arriving late to Winnipeg with the early flight. I would rather pay another $100 + dollars to arrive early enough in the evening before the connection to get 8 hours sleep in a bed - I get really cranky without my rest! If only I could easily nod off on the airport benches.....would make it a lot easier/cheaper for me!
I'm not impressed with the Westjet sale through Winnipeg!
Last year, I got direct flights for less than $600; This year, those flights are topping $1000 :(
Even connection flights are more expensive...what gives, Westjet?? I guess I gotta keep looking!
I had e-mailed Westjet and the response I recieved was that "Due to Market conditions" they are no longer offering direct flight from Regina. Considering the past two years we have gone direct...on a full plane..I call Bull Crap...NOT HAPPY WITH with Our formerly beloved WESTJET.
Lets all make our opinions known to them...maybe we can at least get direct next yr.
I hear you viper!
I bet part of the 'market conditions', is that Air Transat is no longer running charters to MoBay...less competition!!
I saw an air transat price alert a month or so ago, for flights Jan/Feb, Saskatoon to Mbj with a quick stop in Regina to pick up passengers, then direct from there. Added time for Saskatoonians, but still very decent compared to others. The price I saw was really awesome, just $550, tax in I believe. Of course the sale was short-lived but would have been a great score.
I would have loved to make our connection thru Wpg instead of Toronto but as mentioned the options they provided (flyin west first and sitting in the airport for several hours) did not float my boat at all. I'm hoping we get better consideration from the airlines after our airport expansion but that is likely a tad optimistic.
For some reason, Transat decided to stop flying Winnipeg-Montego Bay...buggers!
What's up? Transat dropping MBJ from Winnipeg, WestJet not scheduling any direct flights from Saskatchewan.....it's really annoying the amount of flights and charters to Mexico and we're struggling to get to Jamaica - not fair!!! I suppose Transat dropped Winnipeg b/c WestJet's doing it (and I think AC??) and WestJet's not doing SK because Transat & Sunwing are. Not impressed though b/c they both are only offering flights in high season, so we typically get taken to the cleaners for both flights and high season hotel prices. Sheesh!
I've been checking flight prices for several months for my dates....WestJet's prices have pretty much always been higher than AC's - sometimes by $200 pp or more. Add in the fact that to fly east or sun destinations, we typically have to fly west first to Calgary or Edmonton, sometimes even Vancouver, I'm just not too impressed. Especially considering their name, WESTJet, you'd think they'd look after their own (I guess they are, Calgary/Edmonton). Nothing personal against SK, I'm sure, it's all about numbers and money. Just seems funny because Saskatoon is booming (and a lot of people from Alberta have been moving here over the last few years).
I love living in western Canada, but you easterners have got it made as far as flights!
