Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
I've been around since the old board and I don't ever recall seeing any information on the possibility of chartering a boat for overnight accommodations. I am trying to find information or a contact that offers say a 7 day to 14 day charter. One that we could use to sail around the island and experience all sorts of ports and set up a few inland excursions throughout our stay based on where on the island we sailed to. I know this is the Negril forum, and Negril is where I have gone numerous times, but sailing around the island is something I've dreamt of forever!!
If anyone has any info or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate the help!
Anyway....that's my dream trip! We all can dream right!?
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
nice idea.....I would think it would be costly, why ??.... I guess a 7-14 day charter cruise would be right up there with renting a private yacht...you gotta pay for the boat, any fuel required, all provisions, and a crew, or at least 1 skipper......
expensive to travel by water over land......plus you would be responsible for any land transport at your stops, plus expenses while there.......
Nice Dreams though
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
Rambo thanks for the reply and I am aware of all the expenses it would no doubt require! It is something that I would lay down money for if everything was available that I am looking for in a chartered vacation. I have went to Negril on the cheap, not so cheap, expensive, and now want to see if the bucket list vacation is feasible!! And dreams are made to reach for, right!?
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
Seems to me that a boardie got married at the Castle (as did I) and then honeymooned on a yacht cruise around the island. I see her on facebook now and again so I will ask her there and get back to you.

Thanks Ras! I would greatly appreciate any information. We just stayed at the Castle for a few days back in March. We enjoyed the nice yard and floating on the rafts they had there! The food was outstanding as well

Pine tree john....thanks for the site! Looks very promising, out of all the google searches how did I miss that site? I will definately check it out
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
I would definititley be in for that, if it was somewhat reasonable!
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
super idea mon.......
there was a Chris mi think his name was.....
friends with Capt Rob that had a nice 32 foot Catalina that would take people out......
but I haven't seen or heard from him in quite a few years and don't see him on the internet........
too bad cause that would be the route to go.....sailing around the island.......
mi know Chris from SeaStar about a year or so ago went all around Jamaica fishing for like a week.......
he'd be a good person to ask to see what he knows......though it may be a power boat thingy......
please report back what you find out.........and of course a trip report if you ever do get that dream sailing week together
I know they are pretty popular out of St Thomas and some of the other Caribbean islands......
Cool Runnings, Marko

PGW we met you at the webcast at Seasplash back in March. It sounds like you understand where I'm coming from, everything has a value associated with it and if I think it's well worth the money I will jump on it! As a matter of fact PGW remember that catamaran that was anchored at Seasplash around that time, it had the fighting irish emblem on it, that is what got me really wanting to do this once and for all.
Marco, of course I would have to write a trip report, I would owe this board one after a trip like that!!

Yep, I remember that cat, it was pulled out of the water at Ziggy,s last winter. If you find anything let me know.
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
Looks like a great idea to me. And the price for a week looks pretty good, especially if food and drink are included.
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
Sounds like an awesome idea!
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
I am sure that if you go to or contact any of the Yacht harbors in Mo Bay or Kingston you will find sail/motor yachts for rent with a crew/chef....I have Bareboated in the Bahamas which is simply renting the sailboat and sailing yourself..Jamaica is not known for bareboating as many of the reefs are very hard to read and navigate. Most of Jamaica is open watre sailing as well and is not as as easy and laid back as inner sea sailing that you willfind in the Bahamas and many of ther other Island Cahins in the Caribbean. For the true sailors out there the open water is where they want to be in a broad reach making wake. I really see no reason to pull into say Fallmouth and tie up next to a bauxite freighter loading red dirt....
Jamaica just is different than many of the Island Chains...I am sure that with a good boat and a good crew they would take you to some very nice spots but Jamaica is not the destination if I sailed or Bareboated again....In the Bahamas running aground on a sandy bottom is much more foregiving than running up on the reef...

Here is the web site of the charter my friend used: http://www.heavehocharters.com/
Let us know what you decide and how it turns out!
Re: Has anyone ever chartered a stay on a boat?
This has me wondering if it would be possible to charter a boat from Montego Bay to Negril instead of hiring a driver? I'm sure the cost would be much higher but what a fun way that would be to arrive at your hotel!!!
