Re: Planning Your Next Reach
it is the best way to go!
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
Shoot..I always plan to do nothing! The only thing I plan for is the flight, hotel, and the ride there. I make sure I bring clothes that fit any occasion so I can be prepared for anything! You just never know what will happen in JA...a simple walk to the store can change your day. lol
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I confess ... I'm a list maker.
Our first reach we experienced a real bad case of sand gravity. It was just too easy to walk across the street for jerk chicken or hit the bar next door and not even change out of our bathing suits. Once we got home we regretted not going here or not going there. So on our last reach we made a list of things we wanted to do. We actually did more than half of them.
As far as clothing, we went from taking two suitcases for a week to just two carry-on's for two weeks.

Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I always search, read reviews, check locations on the Negril map in relation to where we are staying and make a "wish list" of bars, restaurants, site seeing, etc... that sound interesting. I make it to some of them. I am not much of a lounge around person. Betty can sit or lie around reading a book or magazine all day. I usually walk about or grab a taxi checking things out while she lounges.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I am guilty of over planning. I think it must be the engineer in me. Being our first real reach to Negril, I want to hit as many of these great restaurants as possible, along with a road trip (YS Falls, Appleton tour, and Tosh Mausoleum).

This is me, too. I make sure I have my bathing suits & tanning lotions, running misc, plenty of books on my Kindle, as well as the above & I'm good to go. So true that a simple walk, simple encounter, can change your day. That's the beauty of planning nothing.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
i have perfected the art of doing nothing - my last trip me and my girls sat on loungers in front of bar-b-barn for 7 days straight - we didn't even get up to go to the bar - i love the super relaxed feeling when the tension in my shoulders fades away - to me that's a vacation!
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I am a planner....I make lists and plans, etc.
But I usually never follow them exactly and I surely never complete the lists.....and I LOVE it that way
Plus an uncompleted list ALWAYS gives you a reason to go back (not that you need a reason)
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I overplanned my feb trip this year. So i am going again in November and am planning to do nothing. I might sit on the beach and not move!!!
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I don't ever make plans for Negril...I love the sand gravity and could easily become a beach bum! I have one item on my itinerary for next reach, October 23 and that is the One Love Drive Bus Bar Crawl. It has excellent reviews and it will give me a chance to visit some of the bars and people that bring the magic to Jamaica.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
i don't like to plan more than one thing per trip. Too much planning has ruined the vibe for me in the past, especially when i am with other friends. its like herding cats! Everyone should move to their own energy and interest.
i like to keep the vibe mellow, listen to the breeze and birds and eat only when i am hungry and have cake for breakfast!
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
those on this board that know me, knows that i am OCD when it comes to planning and making lists. I have been going to Jamaica since 1998 and I still do have a list of places to see and things to do but for this trip in December, I am just planning to party someplace for NYE, eat someplace different every night, and sit my behind on the beach...I might even pick a different spot each day just to spice it up some, lol. OH and I want to have another Pool Party at the Rayon...still trying to convience SxyATLbutterfly to let's have one.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
I never plan..only for airfare and where I want to stay. Usually a few days before I go to walmart, target, ross and old navy to get items. I never bring expensive clothing or shoes with me. I do set budgets each day though...if I don't plan on an activity like a tour or eating out, I try to limit my spending to $50 a day.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
going for 18 days late jan, we have a few plans other than hanging on the beach: sat nites at Seastar, snorkeling, visiting the cliffs, Red Stripe Catamaran, and this trip we are going to try snorkeling at Rhodes Hall and the One Love Pub Crawl, soon come
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
Ha, I can totally relate. We stopped planning out our days a long time ago, (and not just with vacations to Negril) because sand gravity just took over each time. Now, we just go with the flow, if we feel up to doing something, we do, if not, we are cool with it. I think once we had kids and started traveling with them, we also just became a lot more flexible with plans. I think you will have a wonderful time with or without plans.
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
Over the last three years and 8 trips I've had a tight schedule. Even left early once after getting everything done I needed to.
The trip in November will also be pretty much scheduled. But one day is set aside to visit the beach.
The Christmas however will be completely loose. 'Bout time I'd say

Did someone say POOL PARTY? :D
I have to confess, the last time I went down for the weekend I didn't even put on a bathing suit...my days consisted of getting some snacks, having a few drinks at some of the bars, stocking up on vodka and tia maria and chilling with some friends on my porch. It was awesome...sometimes not doing much of anything in particular is perfect
Re: Planning Your Next Reach
Planning is just one more chore that I've given up in life. As long as i have a good book and a drink in hand all the world is right!
