For jerk pork, Red Dragon or Ozzies.....heard that Bourbon Beach has some good ribs! When in Negril, if you have a desire, just ask and someone will fulfill your needs!! No place like it on earth!!!
Not an answer to Negril or Ribs but,,,,,,
I grew up with Ollie Gates and Arthur Bryants in K.C., spend some time at Salt Lick in Austin when I go down for classes, Rendevouse (hmmm) Interstate Cozy Corner Germantown in Memphis, I've had BBQ from the Carolina's to Texas and think I understand quality,,,,,
Well face it we got lost, we were doing an airport pick up just C and I and I decided to run up and over Sav to Anchovy, shoulda zigged right at Torrington fell left, an hour of unbelievable vistas hidden rivers and some of the worst roads I have ever seen, Friendship - Pennycooke - Williamsford and came back out a couple miles up the road from where we started,,,,,,

Back on track, smooth road sailing, C needs a clean bathroom, looks OK and I accidentaley fall into uneqivicaley without a doubt hands down the best pork (oh they had chicken foot soup, chicken and fish also) I have ever had in my life, my sweet jesus, the drinks stand had not opened, our cooler supplied the pit master and crew, I got the first pork of day wrapped in foil painted with sauce and as we made our way through Anchovy C is hand feeding me, enough wrap it up, oh god unwrap it I need more, put bone in mouth and chew it down,,,,

Good heavens that looks incredible!!
In KC Bryants rules! Subject to debate and sticky fingers of course.
Awesome pics

You had to go and start it didn't you JamB.
The debate and it can't just hold at pork,,,,,,, and who are these Oklahoma Joes?
I might concede Bryants ribs and I have eaten many a rack on the hood of a car at 1:30 in the morning back in the day when bars closed down at 1:00 and Arthur sat in an old recliner by the pit and served everything in orange-brown freezer paper, had few tables and soda came from bottle dispensers but,,,,,,,,,,,
when it comes to briskett, sauce, fries, ham, burnt ends and beans Ollies place on 12th street slays. I remember during the riots of "68" blocks around Gates were burning but nobody had the gall to mess with Ollies turf, when my first buddies got their drivers license I was 14 and we would hit 12th street and get 4 short ends and a pitcher of beer - I guess Ollie figured that if we were eating a short end we weren't going to get messed up on a couple glasses of beer - I still remember the taste and smell of that teeth numbing cold beer today
Give me a combo & 1/2 anyday
my kids and grandkids know that if we are going out to dinner in K.C. strawberry soda and BBQ at Gates is on the menu
I have smuggled many a case of Gates sauce into Iowa, some days I get so homesick I have to take a little swig out of the sauce bottle to hold me over
Yeah baby, way to throw down!Quote:
You had to go and start it didn't you JamB.
1) Fiorellas Burt Ends
2) Fiorellas Poor Russ
3) Oklahoma Joes
4) Gates
Living the BBQ dream in KC!!
But now it looks like Border Jerk is going to have to be an item on next reach. Thanks Chet!
Chet,
Are you saying the jerk pork from Border Jerk in Mackfield was better than the K.C. ribs? That's high praise indeed. I have been to Border Jerk a few times, it is very good, but I always imagined the K.C. ribs to be unbeatable. Hope to get to K.C., almost did twenty years ago.
On that day in that moment, w/o even an expectation of having pork cross my lips I would say that Border landed in the top 5 at #1. One thing about BBQ is that each person has their own taste (enter a competition sometime and look at the judges sheets at the end of the day - they have 7 judges for a reason) , not to mention sub categories like slaw and beans.
Please do K.C., the overall experience can not be matched (although Memphis is fun), you could do 7 days of nothing but BBQ joints and still be confused as to what is best.
Not that many years ago the parking lot at Arrowhead before a Chiefs game could give many joints in town a run for their money, wouldn't reccomend the Chiefs game now (l.o.l. I say this as a lifetime Chiefs fan that has seen it all) but the parking pass would be an interesting stop on a BBQ tour.
Bourbon Beach has great Ribs.........
Cool Runnings, Marko
Chet you nailed it about the parking lot at Arrowhead experience and that most folks born and raised in KC. are near expert bbqr's.
Sunray -- there is nothing like KC BBQ, so many good bbq joints besides the most famous big name places it would take months to hit them all. It truly is a culture in KC.
Bjritz -- Jackstack (fiorellas) poor Russ is a wicked sandwich.

Now I really want to get to K.C.! Twenty years ago, was on a road trip, with first stop being Chicago, had too much fun there and stayed longer than planned, next went to St. Louis, same thing happened as in Chicago, then had to give up on reaching K.C. that time, and start heading home. I know K.C. would have been awesome, and will be when I reach.
Smokin'Ds.
FL 206 and Rt. US. 1 DuPont Corners, FL
Cash only.........They start in the early AM..........When the meat is finished they close.
North East Florida is really South East Georgia
Where is the love for St. Louis BBQ? 17th Street Barbeque, Pappy's Smokehouse(Best in the Country!), and Roper's Ribs. 17th Street routinely gets voted best Ribs in the US!
Thanks Yetta and Marko...will have to give them a try at Bourbon Beach this reach.
So Chet. We are constantly on the search for the best pork and this place seems like a place to seek out. Can you give us a better idea of where this place is? Somewhere between Torrigton and Anchovy?
In Negril - Red Dragon
In Boston (actually Somerville) RedBones
It's all good!
Enjoy,
VVHT
Hmmmmmmm, see attached map, B8 runs A2 Ferris Cross (just east of Sav) to A1 Reading (just west of MoBay)
Border is the border of St James & Westmoreland between Mackfield & Chichester - if you are headed north and hit the orange groves you went to far, if you are headed south hang your head out the window at the orange groves and turn your sniffer on.

I have enjoyed the jerk pork at Red Dragon a couple of times (although my personal preference is Ossies). Was not aware that Red Dragon served ribs??
