First time visiting Negril!
My husband and I will be in Jamaica from 4-15 Feb 2013. We're booked in at Rockhouse Negril, Jakes in Treasure Beach, and we're thinking about spending the last few days back in Negril at Catcha Falling Star in the Pisces room (http://www.catchajamaica.com/thepisces.htm). Anyone stayed at this property before?
Thanks!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
LOL, You'll have a hard time getting feedback on Catcha Falling Star around here...

Re: First time visiting Negril!
LOL!
Sorry I don't mean to laugh at your very good question, but when I read it that is exactly what I did
Catcha Falling Star is one of the most popular resorts discussed on this board. And in my opinion it is the best place around (I may be biased I know)
I myself will be the first to admit that I am 100% in love with that place. Catcha is my all time favorite place in the whole world, not trying to oversell it of course! LOL
You will have the BEST time!
If you have any specific questions about Catcha feel free to ask and we will gladly help!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Thanks Marley! This hotel looks great but the price seemed too good to be true. Made me worry a little. We'll book the end of our trip there for sure. I also read some great reviews about Joe Cool for transfters (http://www.joecooltaxiandtoursjamaic...ansfers_1.html). I'd love to be able to just use one guy to go from the airport in Montego Bay - Rockhouse - Jakes - Catcha - airport. If we could do some sightseeing on these trips it would be even better. Make the cab rides a little more interesting. Anyone used Joe Cool before?
Thanks for the fast responses!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
The reason that the price is low is because that is one of the smaller units on the property and it is closer to the road than to the cliff side. But with that said, in my opinion there isn't a bad room on the property, some just have better views or perks than others.
But the real sell of Catcha is how gorgeous the place is, how amazing the staff is, how wonderful the food and drinks are, etc. so if they would let me put a tent on the property I would do it and not even complain (and that is coming from someone who doesn't camp!) LOL
You will be happy there for sure and the Rockhouse is also a gorgeous property with great views food and drinks too, I just prefer Catcha for the vibe and the staff and overall experience.
Treasure Beach is great too, you have to check out YS Falls and the Pelican Bar!
You have made some really great choices for your first visit, you will have a great time.
I myself am not familiar with Joe Cool as I always use my own favorite driver (Chicken) but I think others on this board have used Joe Cool and have said good things, so I will let them speak on that but yes, your idea of using one driver for everything is a great idea!
You sound like a pro already!
Have a great time!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
I noticed a lot of people talking about Chicken! He's on my list as well. Maybe i'll send him an email and see what he can set up for us. I'd like to get a set rate for the whole deal. We are definitely going to Pelican Bar, hopefully the falls, and I thought we'd do the Love Bus Bar Crawl for fun.
I used to be a travel agent many years ago, so I think that helps with my planning. ;)
Can't wait for our trip!! This is my 40th birthday present to myself. I figure if i'm going to do it, do it right.

Re: First time visiting Negril!
That sounds like a great plan! And a great Birthday! I am a planner too so I know what you mean, I just can't help myself! lol
oh and you HAVE to do the pub crawl....that is so much fun!
We have some friends who are going on their honeymoon next week in Negril. They came to me as the "Jamaica expert" and asked for advice and a list of must do things.
I gave them a list of about 50 things to do in Negril, webcasts, shows, entertainment, places to eat, drinks to order, etc.
Then I gave them a second list that said
"After reading that list here are the 2 MUST DO things"
1) Eat dinner and enjoy drinks at Ivan's (Catcha Falling Star)
2) The One Love Bus Pub Crawl
For Day trip options I told them YS Falls / Pelican Bar
Check out my trip report and you can see how much fun can be had doing those 3 things listed above:

Yeah, you are going to have a GREAT time!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
If you are going to Treasure Beach in the middle of your stay, why not leave Rockhouse early on your departure day, visit Black River and YS Falls with a drop off in Treasure Beach? It might cost a little extra, but would save a full day of travel. I believe you can visit Pelican Bar from a Treasure Beach fishing boat.
Regards,
Bob

Hey ThreeBlackCats, we arrive on the 12th of Feb, so maybe we will cross paths! (I like your boardie name!) :)

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Thanks for the awesome link Marley! Can't wait to read through that. :)
Rjonsun - That's exactly what we're planning to do. I'd like to make some stops on each trip and definitely do Pelican Bar while we're at Jakes.
Beth Ann - Thanks! It's the name of my jewellery shop (www.threeblackcats.ca). We have 3 black kitties at home. Where are you staying?

Re: First time visiting Negril!
You're gonna be warming up treasure beach a week or so before us. It's our second stay. We stay next to Jakes at sunset resort. Never stayed at jakes but had lunch there, a massage and dinner there - all super! It's a very unique property. We also hng out at jack sprats for several meals and music. If you want a special meal contact axel at MarBlu just up the road a piece for a real culinary experience. Check out their website. We had he most amazing meal finalizing with a homemade guava ice cream. It's only opened Friday and Saturday for dinner and you have to make reservations as its food made to order. We're doing treasure beach 4 days and then negril 10 days at the westender.

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Dwest - That place looks great! I wonder if he'd do a vegan menu for us? That's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Jamaica....very easy for vegans to eat there (as long as you're not stuck in a big resort). ;)
Can't wait to hit Jack Sprats for dancing!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
you have to go to Pelican Bar by Black River, soon come

Re: First time visiting Negril!
ThreeBlackCats, We'll be arriving @ Blue Cave Castle on the 12th. We have one VERY spoiled black kitty right now. :) Hope to meet up sometime during our stay...maybe a pub crawl?

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Three Black Cats,
You chose well! The Rockhouse is amazing, and of course Catcha is beautiful and has many fans here on the board. I have always wanted to go to Jake's (have heard wonderful things about it), but alas have not ventured out that way yet. You will have to give us all a report on it. Sounds like you are planning a great vacation and an amazing way to celebrate your birthday!:-)

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Pisces is a cool little room with great AC! The road noise was not an issue at all. I had two issues with the room. First, they put a towel rack on the front door which can be confusing as to which door it is when you are half asleep. It's right next to the bathroom door and my naked confused wife walked out the front door thinking she was headed to the bathroom. Good stuff there.
Second, the toilet is too close to the vanity and you are cramped in the bathroom. I'm a little particular to my toilets. Speaking of toilets, do any of the hotels offer up an elongated toilet? The ones designed by a man, not the round bowls which were designed by a woman for a woman. Just saying.....
The porch is kick a$$ and has a great hammock that me and my honey swung in a couple of nights with a nice ocean view. It also has an outdoor shower which is kinda cool. Tizzy can probably help you with the details a little better with the outdoor showers........

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Ok. I am very curious about Tizzy and the outdoor shower. I keep reading little bits here and there..lol.

Re: First time visiting Negril!
As for Joe cool, he and his wife Latoya are excellent! Very nice people, they picked us up at the airport and provided transport to our condo last year, as well they were our taxi to take in the Jamaican Jazz and Blues festival( long trip from Negril), prices were excellent as service was phenomenal! No worries using them!!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
I stayed at the Pices room....Nice but small.I loved it. Outside shower where the flowers fall in.Big deck with shade, waterview. You can sit there under the rain and not get wet.

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Wife & I stayed two years ago. We will be returning Feb 13th so we will overlap by a couple days.
-
Re: First time visiting Negril!
WOW WOW WOW
That sounds like a GOOD trip.
Respect ;)
** I'd offer some input but Marley is quick on the draw and covered everything LOL.....So all I can advise you to do is HAVE FUN, but thats a given!

Re: First time visiting Negril!
Beth Ann - Maybe we should do a pub crawl Feb 13!
Eden - I'll definitely post a review of Jakes after our trip. ;)
Booger - Thanks for the scoop on the Pisces room. I was going to ask about street noise. Good to know it's not an issue. I wanted that room because of the outdoor shower. We're totally hooked after our Cuba trip so any time I see an outdoor shower, i'm there. Haha! We have one at Rockhouse too. I'll make sure i'm not wandering the grounds naked in search of the bathroom. Ha! The porch looks great too.
Walleyed99 - Good to hear. Now I have to decide between Chicken and Joe Cool.
Fred Stripe - I'm sold. Booking Pisces. :)

Oh Booger, please tell us more about how difficult and painful it is being a man!
LMAO

Re: First time visiting Negril!

WARNING!! GG BS Ahead. Delicate sensibilities should stop reading now. Got to go with Boogs on this one Fred. If you're sportin' a package the round bowls are problematic. Undesired flesh to porcelain contact is a heeber jeeber. See I told you...

Re: First time visiting Negril!
I'm still trying to figure out if my package is an innie or an outtie?

Re: First time visiting Negril!
UPDATE: So, while I was chatting with you fine people about the greatness of the Pisces room at Catcha, someone booked it! They must have been reading this thread. :( We'll have to try Catcha next time.
Here's what we've got... 4 nights at Rockhouse and 7 nights at Jakes. I can't wait for total relaxation!!
