Been out to the reef - mostly hang around the shore at the beach for "snarklin" (as our friend Randy used to say) but I would like to try the cliffs - We are staying at Fun Holiday so we'd be looking for a day trip kinda thing...

Xtabi is one of the best since the sea access is quite easy. However, there are some other spots, with longer ladders and a bit more challenging to get into the wata.....LTU is a super place to snorkel, swim around the the next cove over, near Villa Sir mer and actually can swim up towards the caves. They just replaced their ladder so it is nice and steady now, just a likkle long however. So if sea ruff up, no go sir.
Samsara has some nice areas also. Further out by the Lighthouse, walk into the park there and you will find an area with a wooden ladder (again, a rather tall one) where you can enter the water. My husband likes to snorkel there but I find heading down that LONG ladder kind of spooks me. Enjoy! I can't wait to get back into the wata and snorkel my backside off!
Try PeeWee's on the cliffs.
I spend a lot of time in the water when I travel anywhere.....not just Jamaica. In Negril, Samsara has the best and safest snorkeling area. It is bouyed off and no outside boats or jet skis can enter other than the dive shop boat. The scuba dive shop is awesome and you could likely rent some equipment there cheap if you dont want to bring your own.
The house reef at Samsara is very nice. I've spent a lot of time scuba diving thr house reef rather than going further out to sea.....its that nice ....just not Cozumel nice. The reefs of Negril are still recovering. Visibilty is good at the shallow depths and there is a lot to see. There is also more than one way to get out of the water.
I've got lots of photos of the Samsara house reef in an album on my profile page if you want to check them out.
Just remember to look but dont touch anything in the ocean.
...as you touch something in the ocean hahaha
Hey Mr. Twister- We want to snorkel Samsara while staying at Rockhouse. Some places let you if you buy something- is that possible there? Looking at their restaurant they have "all inclusive meals" what does that mean? We are not big buffet fans as a little chicken and a red stripe could suffice. Thanks for any info
Hey Patricia, Thanks- we will toast you in about 24 days when we snack and snorkel at SamSara,
Snorkeling is one of my favorite things in Negril!
DaRev: XTABI, Samsara, LTU, are all easy to get to and will cost you a bar/food tab. The lighthouse is technically free, but you may end up making a donation. You can bring your own food and beveridges there for post snorkeling picinic. The snorkeling can be very good early a.m. You can explore the shore-line at The Caves resort. There is more agility and physical exertion required to enter and exit than at the other recommended sites.
gregillinois: The snorkeling right at Rockhouse is pretty good. Similar to XTABI and Samsara. I have seen lots of interesting sea critters near the Pushcart (formerly Pirates Cave) area.
Not on the cliffs, but you could take a trip to Rhodes Hall Plantation (Green Island 25 mins away) and pay entry fee for pretty good snorkeling.
Have Fun!
