What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I've been to Negril a lot, and I'm kind of infamous for my hotel hopping, but there are a few properties, for one reason or another (a fence?), I've never set foot upon the grounds.
One I really to check out, if only for moment, is The Caves ..... Just for the prestige factor and to see what all the fuss is about.
Also never stopped at Idle Awhile nor Hide Awhile, but I want to, along with Jackies, Banana Shout, Country Country, Charela and maybe Negril Yoga Centre to see how the other half lives.
I've seen just about every other hotel on the Strip and Cliffs, even if it was just an airport pickup or a quick ice tea .....
How about the other Negril vets? Any hotels you just have not got around to yet?

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
And Villa Del Sur maybe too ....

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
The Caves. Some day when I win the lottery....

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
had Patron shots at the bar at Villa Sur Mar, and I wasnt buying! was like a rich guy for an afternoon, and thought it would be cool to stay there!
Moondance cliffs is the one that comes to mind, rent the really expensive villa there invite a bunch of friends and party like rockstars!

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Ya, Moondance is nice ..... It's SO slow there most of the time, I bet you could negotiate a good deal as a walk-up ....

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I had wanted to stay at Le Mirage and eventually did. Nice place.
I think I've checked out everywhere that I would want to stay at except Catcha. I may have to do a dinner there just to check it out...

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Zimbali Mountain Retreat and Moondance...top of my list for the future.
But for those in my budget now: Samsara, CocoLa Palm, Catcha and Travellers.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I've only stayed at Seastar....It really meets my needs
The only other place I want to sleep is Zion Hill (my yard) one more time in my life....

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I would like to do the caves, but it is my understanding no ac? I could not deal with that... I have the windows open at night in a Pennsylvania winter. Edit-- just checked put the caves website... They do have ac... Rates on off season are not too bad. We used to stay at couples fairly frequently... Caves looks a lot nicer than that, and comparable in Princeton what we used to pay.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I guess Moondance Villas on the beach is the one place that interests me but haven't even stepped a foot on the property. Maybe someday...
Like a number of others, The Caves was my other one. I splurged and spent a few nights there last December. It was a good experience and there were things about it I really liked, but honestly... there were also things about it that I was disappointed with. Wouldn't go back unless I got a real good deal. We did a split stay, The Caves and Couples Swept Away, the Caves was almost $200 a night more.. not worth it for us.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
What didn't you like?my wife and I used to love the couples resorts, we have done tower isle, sans souci and negril a number of times, but fell in love with tensing pen last year. Neither of us drink, so the AI route is never all that much of an attraction for us. I just want a superb room with an immaculate location for the few days I take off each year. Caves looks cool, but if it is only different from tensing by virtue of being AI, I will stay put. Tensing is dirt cheap, just under 2,000 for a fantastic view, and the company of the best guests I have ever met on the island.

My thinking is if you catch Xtabi or Rockhouse on a good week, how different would it be to Caves factoring in value?

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Gerry, I used to hang out at the Cave's bar (The Sands) that was open to the public. That was good enough for me!!

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Gotta agree Pretty40, Have been to the bar at the Caves twice. Really enjoyed it and it was not much more expensive than Rockhouse and Catcha. Just being there and seeing all the beautiful designs...it was worth it. Not saying that I want to spend that much per night...but the ambiance was nice at the bar. Plan to check it out this New Years Eve. I think they have a deal for those who are not staying there. Sounds like an interesting time fi sure. Guess we will see wah gwan this New Years. Leaning towards something different unless there is a great concert on NYE.

Lighthouse Inn on the Cliffs.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Hussyband~ I think we may have just had our expectations set too high. And like I said, it was a good experience and the staff was very nice.
At the risk of sounding like one of "those people" who complain about sheets thread count:) Heres a few things that bugged me..
They ran out of diet soda after our first day. Everytime I would request one I was told that they were out,. Now..not a big deal, went and bought my own and kept it in our fridge and would go to the room and grab one between frozen rum drinks.:) But since they even have a place on the reservation form to list if there are any special foods you would like to try etc.. I thought they would have restocked some diet soda for me. I guess I should have put it on the form. lol
Also, outlets in the room were hard to find. I get rustic, I like rustic, but I also like access to electricity. Again, not a big deal, I brought extension cords and just had to remember to replug things in .
And while the food was good, especially for breakfast, I didn't find it over the top good. Again.. expectations maybe too high. We booked the private cave dinner, thought we'd have something special but it was the same chop suey(i think thats what it was) that was served for regular dinner that night.Food was ok but we've had better meals at other places on the cliffs.
Hope I didn't sound petty and we really did enjoy our time there, but for us its not a good value for the money. Other places on the cliffs that we liked just as much or better. So.. next trip to the cliffs will probably be back to Tensing Pen(loved it!) or Catcha(also loved it!). The only other place on the cliffs we've stayed that we thought was overpriced for what you got was Rockhouse.
Having said all that. I do think you'd like The Caves, we just weren't blown away by it. But I know it gets rave reviews so maybe its us.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
I toured Moon Dance Villas several years ago and since then it has always been on my wish list. I just can't justify $400 and up per night. Come on Powerball :-)

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
For me, Rock House and Catcha and we're going to Catcha in April, so that only leaves Rock House. ;)
-
Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Catcha for sure...Hopefully get in for a few nights in April..Also never have stayed at Blue Cave Castle..(tried a few times but dates didn't work out) I know Ras W. Loves it there.....Also haven't stayed at Sea Star yet..Again, April Maybe..I'm usually on the beach and have tried most everything down there.. I need to expand to the cliffs a bit more, there are many places on the West End I want to stay.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Zimbali Resort is at the top of my list.

Re: What Negril hotels have you never been but desperately want to check out?
Blue Cave Castle and Catcha are both on my list and I am excited to be getting to try both on our next trip. Idle Awhile is also on my list - I just love the look of those porches. Unfortunately it was all booked up for our dates this year. No worries though, it just means I'll have to go back!

No I didn't. I have been trying to get someone to have their wedding there. I really don't like to stay at that fancy of a place but it sure would be neat to spend a day or two there.

After 7 trips to the beach, we are ready to sample, Catcha and Sea Star for a couple of days...It's hard to break a habit when ya fall in love with a spot, but
more adventure awaits, I know....
Happy Travels...
