So, to lighten up the mood around here
My time for my second trip to Negril is coming very quickly. This is the busiest season of the year for me. I work in the Healthcare industry, and lots of our clients are beginning open enrollment. This means, coming into the office Saturdays and well over 50 hour work weeks. Yes it sucks, but it makes the time go by really fast.
Originally, my lady and I were going have a special get away to ourselves. We were going to stay at Nirvana most likely.. However my Mom got wind of the fact that we would be leaving the country during Thanksgiving and decided to book plane tickets for: Herself, My Dad, My brother, and my sister. My family dynamic is crazy... My parents are still married, but only spend about 2 days a week together. Otherwise they live an hour apart, and in basically opposite directions from where I live. I am 28 and the oldest of the "Kids". My brother is 23 and lives out in Wyoming. My sister is 16 going on 30 and just started driving. (And just got busted for skipping school a week or so ago - LOL)
Since we now have stowaways on our trip, we decided it might be better to get a couple full cottages at the Yellow Bird. My GF and I will be taking a side. My brother will take the other side. My parents and my sister (so they can keep an eye on her) will be in the other full cottage.
My brother is about as crazy of a person you are ever going to meet. He loves "subs" he loves rum and he loves the show LOST. He sends me random emails and messages about how we are going to go off into the jungle looking for hatches, and the smoke monster once we get to the "island" (Jamaica). I can't imagine Negril will be the same after he is let loose for 7 nights.
Anyway,
So far we have Rocky scheduled to pick us up. We get in, sometime in the 11am hour. We will want to grab lunch and drinks on the way. I think I have seen Bigga's mentions on here? Where's that? Any other recommendations?
Next is cellular. We will probably want to grab 2 phones. Because I sure as hell hope, that we are not all together... all the time. My GF is already a little tweaked that her future in-laws are coming. (As would I be) - So - Locations in Negril easily reached? Not necessarily a first day necessity.
Seeing as we will be making landfall in Negril Friday mid afternoon (if all goes to plan) - Plot my afternoon/evening. I had planned on grabbing a stripe for the walk and making my way up the beach to Tony's for the sunset and to say what's up to Niah. What's good on Friday nights?
That's about as far as I can plan ahead haha. I know even this is much.

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Biggas is in green island and is a grest place to stop. All drivers should know where it is. I would rent phones from hotel usually cheap. if you want to buy Digicel in town your driver will stop there to. Have fun i have three weeks to wait.

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Hey Flip,
I can relate...lol. Our 2nd trip to Negril is right around the corner, but first have to get through open enrollment here too. I'm taking a break from as we speak, but my office door is still open for any lunch-time customers. The later in the month it gets, the busier it gets.
Stopped @ Biggas on our ride in last year. It's kind of a blur ;), but I can tell you it was worth the stop. Have a great 2nd trip, and good luck with the rest of open enrollment...half way there!

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Hey Flip Girfriend and I will be at the White Sands stop up for a drink and a Sub!

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Bigga's is awesome, but keep in mind that it is about 1 hour from airport. So if your are hungry after your flight, you may want to stop somewhere close to MoBay. On this last trip, we stopped at Jerky's for jerk chicken and Red Stripes, which was only a few minutes from the airport. Jerky's is kinda like a chain restaurant version of jerk stand, but it was good and fast so we were able to get back on the road quickly.
I hear that the Pork Pit in Mobay is also good.

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Flip, lol. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you at the moment. Your story just cracks me up. I can relate.

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
I need to stay off facebook because when I saw "SUB" my mind wondered for a second :p!! But your brother sounds like fun....LOL
But anywhoo....If you plan on going back to jamaica I would just purchase a cheap phone from the Digicel store and add minutes. i think Biggas will be open by that time, but be warned that his sauce is HOT so get it on the side. You can also ask your driver what does he recommend for food places along the way...I noticed back in April that there were a few spots along the way that were open.
I don't know what the haps are for a Friday night but just check the signs at the roundabout and I am sure the usual places are open...American Pie, Rooftop, Scrub A Dub.
Have fun!!!

Yup, we're hooked. I hope to go back every year at least once. But ideally twice.

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
Flip if you are using Rocky he will GIVE you a phone to use... all you have to do is buy minutes for it. Minutes are very cheap. We paid ab $20 for 1000 international & local minutes. Very easy to do...
All you have to do is let him know you want a phone ahead of time & he'll give it to you when he picks you up.
Have a blast! :)

Re: So, to lighten up the mood around here
My brotha, I totally see your situation,lol... A couple of years ago, we took 4 relatives to Negril for their 1st time... I wish I'd taken 'em to an AI, as we ended up being responsible for them eating for the 1st 4 of our 8 day trip... I dearly love my Fam, but being on call was starting to bum me out, as Negril is "our" getaway spot...I know ,lol, it sounds selfish, but it's "our" spot! That said, create a word document for them from this site and Trip Advisor and the negril.com info map... That document should have the map, list of Top 5 eating spots on the beach and cliff... Social nicety's like how to deal with the higglers, saftey rules and whatever else you think they need to know...For instance, instead of shaking with an open hand , do a fist pound because no one can put something in your hand(Hard to give back once they do), or knowing that that string bracelet tied around your wrist is gonna cost ya in cash or stress,lol...We've been to Jamaica 8 or 9 times, but during our 1st trip, I had a 25 page word document that I read over and over like a professor... By the time my wife and I hit Mo'Bay, we knew as much about culture, as we could. OH YEAH... Check out Friday Night at C&D Country Western Pub/Jenny's in the Cliff's "Texas Barbecue, Jamaican Style" party in the Cliffs... We stay at Rooms on The Beach(2K mark on Negriinfo.com map) and love to come out of our room about 10p or 11p
at night and head wherever the music is pulsating...The older crew should be mellowed by this point!
Happy Travels...

Cool. I am wondering if they have AC. Not real clear on the website. Not a huge deal, but it sounds to me like they may not all be air conditioned.
