The animals of Jamaica, Touched by Hurricane Sandy.
Animal House Jamaica is a registered Non-profit organization in Jamaica that does a great service to all of Jamaica's abandoned, feral and stray animals all over Jamaica from Negril to Port Antonio. I found out about the organization when I took part in an online auction and won a week at an excellent Studio Condo in Negril. The best part about it was the amount I paid, went strait to the Animal House Jamaica and helped some of the Jamaican dogs, Cats, and other animals. I am sure many of you are animal lovers and many of you appreciate the lovable Jamaican street dogs like we do! Maureen, the lady who runs the rescue does it all by way of donations, and her own hard earned money. Unfortunately Hurricane Sandy damaged the rescue, and there is NO power which also means all medication/food kept in the fridge/freezer will all need to be replaced. If any of you are interested I am going to include links to the facebook page, and her webpage. Donate if you feel it is worthwhile. If you can promote them on facebook it would be appreciated! I am not affiliated with the rescue at all other than I felt a need to help! The animals cannot ask for help, so I am asking for them. Please help if you can! :)

Re: Touched by Hurricane Sandy in a bad way, help if you see fit
Much respect for the info. I am a major animal lover....thanks for the links. Definitely will do what I can! Thanks for caring about our canine, feline and other animals. As my Dad always said, " See someone that is cruel to animals, ya better watch out, their cruelty runs deep"

It was just the other day that I did a search to see when the auction was. It looks like it hits in December and I am really looking forward to it. Thanks Walleyed for posting this.... Maureen is a sweetheart and works hard to place animals in a good home. You know I'm all in......

Kaycee - Animal House of Jamaica actually does adopt animals from Jamaica out to folks everywhere so it is actually possible to adopt a dog or cat from Jamaica, you can email them for details!
Really great charity!

Yes!
Isn't that great?
And they post photos all the time of the pups or kitties in their new homes in US, Canada, etc
They always look so happy.....it makes me smile!
Love the animals of Jamaica (and everywhere)!

Booger, I just had to go there too! This little fella has his own story and it really hit home with the approach of Sandy! He is currently living right by Grand Bahia Principe in the bush, scavenging for food and is only about 4 months old! He is scared to death of humans cause he is being chased away by the hotel workers and Maureen has been trying to catch him so she can bring him in. Maureen posted these pics and it really made me sad to see this poor little guy. She had him in a cage at one point and the cage collapsed as they tried to close the door! Since then they have not been able to get him again! As hurricane Sandy approached Maureen made one last attempt but again he was scared by the Bahia staff and ran off! Maureens daughter is trying to find out an update on the little fella, hope he's okay!!

Re: Touched by Hurricane Sandy in a bad way, help if you see fit
Just heard an update today from Maureen's daughter, The Grand Bahia puppy has been seen since Sandy! She will be heading out again today to try and make contact and hopefully be able to catch him/her and bring the puppy back to the shelter! And an update on the shelter, as of Sunday night they were still without power and water, all of the frozen/refrigerated food has gone bad as has the vaccinations that were stored in the fridges as well. The plan is to try and raise money for a generator or see if someone will donate a generator so this does not happen again. Please check this great charity out online, please like the organization on facebook, and please donate if you have the extra funds available and have the desire to help!

Re: Touched by Hurricane Sandy in a bad way, help if you see fit
Just saw a post on the Facebook page for the Animal House Jamaica! They are doing a test run on the internet and they had internet briefly but will be back online permanently soon! Must mean power is restored as well, life is finally getting closer to back to normal for the rescue and the animals! Lets keep the donations coming if you can!!!!

Re: Touched by Hurricane Sandy in a bad way, help if you see fit
Power is not back on at the shelter, but they do have the water truck bringing water with regularity now. Maureen has power and Internet at her home but not at the shelter yet! Hope to see that change soon! Puppy at Grand Bahia is still at large but, Maureen will not give up till he is brought in! They still need help though as food is low and they have little to no meds that did not go bad without power. Please check them out on Facebook and online and spread the word!!
Cheers
Walleyed

Re: Touched by Hurricane Sandy in a bad way, help if you see fit
Maureen, posted on her facebook page and The Animal House Jamaica's, that power is FINALLY back on at the shelter! Life is finally getting back to normal for her and her volunteer's! As well, an update on the puppy that is living around Grand Bahia. He is still loose and has not been caught, however Maureen has enlisted help of some guests who have volunteered to help buy feeding him and gaining his trust while they are staying there. Lets hope this helps gain his trust in people so that finally Maureen will be able to bring him in!!!
