I don't know how old you are but in 1954 I was 12 yrs old living in South Philly and hurricane Hazel came through.
This may be as bad.
I still think of Floyd. We lived in bucks county for that one and lost our house to the flooding. In northern Montgomery county now, on a hill, in a stone house. No mo floods for me, but the wind has blown off one of our roof sections... Which I just had replaced at a cost of $5000 this summer. I am not enjoying sandy... Pennsylvania is not supposed to have hurricanes...
I'm 25 miles north of Philly, and we have a lull in the action right now as far as rain is concerned but the wind is still heavy. I'll be headed into work tonight for some double time. I work in waste water, and heavy rains cause a lot of overtime. This will pay for a few extras on our upcoming trip.
The news just said that some of the Atlantic City boardwalk has floated away!
Regards.
Bob
Getting more wind in manayunk.
I was six during Haze. I remember it raining sideways.
Wind is blowing hard way over here by Detroit too.
Wasn't that a mighty storm

Captain, sorry for the lost 25 years in New Hope, LOL. Remember Apple Jacks bar up in Point Pleasant? That is where in 1972 I decided to go to Jamaica.

Bob
Thinking of our our friends in Sandy's path! Update us as soon as you can! Thinking about you and praying!
NYC was seriously maimed by Sandy, she is no sweetheart and packed a huge punch. Going to take months to recover. So much flooding, fires (one fire took out 50 homes in Queens), over 600,000 w/out power, subways flooded with up to 7 feet of water, 2 hospitals evacuated, all bridges and tunnels closed, tunnels flooded--it goes on and on and more to come tomorrow. Even though the strongest part of the storm has passed she is still with us with a lot of strong wind and rain. This storm is taking a heavy hand and she is still on the move and wreaking havoc as she goes. Prayers and blessing to everyone affected, here and in the Caribbean, those who lost their homes or loved ones.
Made it through.
Our fanily shore home is going to need a lot of work. Here locally. Not much flooding. Minimal wind damage. Less than 1 million people lost power. (Over 5 million live on our general area).
All in all. Our area did OK
Good to hear
I am monitoring NYFD radio traffic. This thing is far from over. Those brave *******s have been at it 100 percent for 24 hours now. In Manhattan it is mostly flooding...in the boroughs, it is far, far worse. If anyone is familiar with Ocean Ave., Brighton Beach Ave., and Rockaway.....it looks like it is a real disaster along there....I realize that where I grew up, Brighton Beach, is a Zone A evacuation location....but the damage I fear will be tragic.....I bet the sand is now up to the planks of the Boardwalk...I wonder how Coney Island fared?
We are right outside of atlantic city and we are ok no power trees down but all of our barrier islands are devastated, homes destroyed, parts of boardwalk and piers are gone done expect storms like that as far north as we are. Thoughts and prayers to everyone who was effected it is going to be a long pro!cess of clean up. And can't get much news right now but it does sound really bad for new york Also
A little OT but does anybody have any info on OBX damage? It's our next favorite place after Negril.
rock robster, coney island is submerged! I posted a pic on Face book. I will pm you my FB info if you want to friend me. I have a lot of images on there of the devastation.
We made it through relatively unscathed, as well. Still, about 1/3 of the homes in the Philadelphia region have no power.
My entire family (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, brothers), in the NYC metro area, are still without power. Aside from the Jersey shore, they got the brunt of the damage.
Atlantic City is a mess, too. The casinos will be closed until Thursday, at least.
Our power company called me a we just got our power back this afternoon. Only a 30 hour outage. Fortunately we are in NC for a few weeks so we really weren't affected. My neighbor checked our house and apparently no damage. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected.
