Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I know the storm is hitting hard, but for all of you like the great Brasi from New York, I hope it's not too bad and that you're able to calm yourselves with warm thoughts of beautiful Negril.
Negril is where my thoughts go in times of trouble -- particularly when I am in Jamaica, ha ha -- so please check in when you can (power out in lot of places) and let us know all is good in the hood.
One Love.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
We are on the ct shoreline...we're ok...no power, no trees down in the yard but many down other places...lots of destruction from flooding at the immediate shoreline. Close to 700,000 people without power in ct alone...
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
Lorax2, glad you're okay!

Gerry...you...trouble...in Jamaica, nah, hard to believe.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
West of Boston not bad. Breeze blew, rain fell hard, power still out, but Vasillia baked lots of cookies before we lost power.
Her kids are enjoying beating me at backgammon and chess now that their smart phones are dead!! Haven't told them I have a car charger yet!!! :) Maybe if they let me win a game or two...
It was pretty cool heating up left overs on top of the wood stove last night. I told the kids it was an "Old School" Microwave!
I hung green glow sticks around the house and the kids thought it was a bit spooky....
The no power thing will definitely grow stale tonight.
Enjoy,

Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
Philadelphia pretty much spared as the eye passed right over us and most of the destruction was on either side of the eye. Not nearly as bad as they were predicting for this area, at least.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I got to live through Hurricane Sandy twice!!! First time was last Wednesday in Negril and now back home. Also west of Boston. Power came back earlier today. Glad we have a generator. BTW Gerryg - We had a great time at Bentley's. Full trip report soon come.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
Hay Happy, never lost power in the Capital of Halloween (Salem, Ma), boat put away all good there, Halloween all go for tomorrow, city expecting extra 100,000 people!Friends came back from Ochie last Fri, got a week free from resort for one day of storm there!
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
Gerry. Atlantic city area did not do too well. We are about 15 minutes from ac and we have no power and trees down, but our shore areas are devastated. So many homes ruined. Parts of the boardwalk and piers are gone. Really sad. Beaches took quite a hit also. No cable but from what i hear up and down the east coast shore communities are devastated. I worry in jamaica about hurricanes, don't think we could see that kind of damage here :)

Al, did you remember to put up the top on your convertable??? LOL
Going to be a busy day in Salem, MA.
My best to Lulu.
Enjoy,

North jersey here, got hammered. 200 plus trees down on my farm. No power since Sunday. Will be another 2 weeks without power. Might be stinky for our nov 17 flight to Jah.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
Beth Ann and I live on the Central PA/NJ border and surprisingly had all of our utilities remain up during the storm. We are fortunate to live in a small pocket that was largely unaffected by outages and had only minor damage to our siding and gutters. Almost everyone around us is not as lucky. Lots of wind damage everywhere (downed trees, fences, billboards etc.) and power is expected to be out for at least another day or two. People are coming in from NJ to get gas for their generators. The lines are so long they have police directing traffic. Luckily we didn't get the rain/flooding to compound things.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I am in the Washington, D.C. area and we just had lots of rain and wind...my power did not go out but a rock did hit my windshield and cracked it.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I live in Maryland and we wasnt affected much...lots of rain, high winds some felt like it was going to knock the house over...we did have power the entire time so yes WE were lucky!...
Prayers out to those that suffered the path of Sandy...
The funny thing is I was texting my JA friend while Sandy was in JA...and when she traveled from Negril to the East coast he and I were texting again him giving me comfort as I did him found it comical...what a connection!! LOL
Thanks Gerry for asking!
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
We finally got our power back last night. I have a new appreciation for heat, lights and water. It sure was cold. Couldn't sleep in our bed because a very large tree came down on our house and put a hole in the roof. We have never heard wind like that. We spent a few nights sleeping upright on the couch. We feel very fortunate that we were able to get the tree removed and the roof patched within a few days. Eating all meals out got tiring and throwing everything away that was in the refrigerator and freezer was pretty costly. Just kept thinking that soon it will be over and we will be in Negril. We are still more fortunate than most. The devastation is unbelievable. Soon Come Jamaica!

MoFromMonroe, sorry to hear about your house...Glad to hear you are all ok...are you in ct ?
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I'm on Long Island. Our family was very lucky, we are in the center of the island and never lost electric, no damage to our home. The worst part for us has been the traffic lights being out and downed wires and trees making getting around dangerous. Schools have been closed for a week and we aren't sure when they will reopen. Getting gas is a major problem. The few stations that have power and gas have lines with people waiting for miles. If it doesn't ease up there will be a lot of people missing work. Lots of fights breaking out over gas for cars and generators. And that's for the lucky ones that have cars and generators. 90% of the island lost power.
People closer to the shores have lost everything. Homes flooded up to the second floors, cars destroyed by salt water. 100 homes in a shore town burned to the ground. And this was a category 1 :(
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?ga
I live in Brooklyn and fortunately was spared of any trouble . I never lost power or anything. It really was a miracle and extreme luck because sections of nearby areas were devastated. The damage in NYC is very severe in some parts, but some parts escaped without any damage at all.
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
@ Lorax- No I am in Monroe NY about 50 miles north of NYC
Re: Which boardies are on the East Coast and how are you doing?
I am so tired of this storm. We live north of Philly, and it is the Sunday after the storm, still no power, and it is going down to freezing at night. Gave up a few days ago and checked into a hotel. Days inn is most definitely not a resort on the cliffs. Peco (our electric company) has told us every day since Wednesday that the power would be on at 11 that night. 100 yards down the road, people have power.
