Hurricane sandy pictures - day of
Mi Lady, Helen, and I strolled north from the Co Co in mid morning to shoot these pics. The beach was deserted. All the properties had everything stowed in anticipation of the event. No beach chairs, no signs, no bars open, restaurants boarded, no people, no dogs, no birds, no nothing.
Most of the morning and afternoon, we did our part by securing bar stools at the Co Co LaPalm beach bar and Sun Beach - the only other one we saw open near us. There was no electricity. The Co Co has a generator, but the smaller resorts were without.
Negril was on lock down - curfew enforced. Stores closed. The staff at the Co Co had to spend the night at the resort because nothing was moving to take them home.
Negril was so fortunate that this storm stayed east of us.

Thanks and it was eerie with no one on the beach at 10:30 AM. Not even the cigarette vendors.

Thanks for the pics - seems surreal how dead it was...
Re: Hurricane sandy pictures - day of
Great pictures guess thats the only time the beach clears out like that!

It looks like a deserted island. Peaceful and erie!
Re: Hurricane sandy pictures - day of
It does look so strange to not see anyone walking up and down. Is that Neville's Patty Bicycle trail in the first pix? YUM

Eerie! I love the photo of Barry's Bar. That's my dad's name and I took a picture there to send to him.

I saw that track too. We didn't see Neville or Norman that day; but that might be an explanation for the wheel trail.

We were supposed to fly home Wednesday but were delayed by 2 days due to Sandy. 6 of us went walking the beach from Hedo to the round a bout on Thursday and everything was tucked away. When we were making the drive from Negril to MBJ we were stunned by the waves. Even when Sandy hit it was not that strong. Sure brought a lot on shore from what the pictures from Friday the 27th show.

Long walk! The waves got progessively worse every day after Sandy's passing. There wasn't even much, if any rain, in Negril with Sandy, as you know from having been there.

Long walk indeed! But it felt good. We went Thursday the 25th and everything was tucked away and the waves made some stretches a little difficult. But Friday was totally different. There was no walking on the beach that day. Wednesday the day Sandy was to hit the weather was actually much milder.
