Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
So in reading TR's from our grizzled or not so grizzled Negril veterans, I have been pushed or encouraged enough to try and submit my own report of Jamaica and Negril in particular! As I am not a writer, nor will pretend to be please do not expect too much! :-) I will try and keep in from meandering too much and getting too bogged down!
After having made 2 previous trips to the island, One to Sandal's in Ochi and one to Breezes Runaway Bay I figured that we had to hit Negril. This dispite the fact that my new wife really. really enjoys the relaxation no worry type trip that the AI big resorts provide, myself I am there for the RandR, Drinks, and Golf!!!
The previous January we had gotten engaged at BRB, and my wife was kinda hoping to get back there on our honeymoon or even wishing more to head to Sandals either in Mo Bay! I for one had Negril in mind and had pretty much decided thats where the honeymoon would take us. Now the funny thing here is that my wife had to convince my to even go to Jamaica the first time, I was thinking strickly rationally with my pocket book as I work as a Sales Manager in the Auto industry and we had been experienceing a NOT SO GOOD time when my wife started to ask about Booking in 2009 for a January 2010 trip. After some unhappy e-mails from her and a little convincing, I said book it!!! Well once there, I fell in love with the country, the people, the food, and of course the warm Jamaican sunshine!!!! So much so, I have taken over the planning, booking, researching and re-planning of our subsequent trips.
Now back to the honeymoon planning, my wife of course jumped into the planning of the wedding and took the bull by the horns. So much so that not only did I not have to really help with anything, I really didn't have to worry. I therefore proclaimed that I would plan the honeymoon! I jumped in with great enthusiasm and started researching, reading, re-reading reviews almost to the point that my wife to be got sick of seeing the Tripadvisor Website up on my laptop (I had yet to discover Negril.com).
One thing that I kept reading was how so many people kept suggesting Non AI on the forums, so away I went. I eventually found a great studion Condo on TA and sent off an e-mail to a fellow and was quickly responded to with a slew of information. Now a big catch was the fact that my wifes experiences with JA and mine as well up until this time had been Sandals or Breezes and so expectations were quite high to say the least. I had broached the subject of Non AI with overwelming enthusiasm with my wife and recieved a middle of the raod, whatever you think hunnie... I trust you... Now for you guys out there this is genearlly not something you wanna hear, is it! But I will not be detered, so I book it!
As the date comes closer to our departure date we have but one small bump in the road, the wedding :). Now, as part of our wedding we had decided to have an evening wedding so my fellow co workers could be there and we all work Saturdays in the Car buisness, this meant a sit down "dinner" would not really be something as we could plan for as that would mean a 10pm supper and no Party.... Well seriously, everyone comes for the party. Right! We decided on a ceremony in upstairs and then staright downstairs in the hall for the presentation or the New Mr and Mrs and drinks while we did a come and go buffet style of our favorite foods prepared the way we prepare them. One hiccupp with this plan meant I was up preparing the "special" pork ribs that we make for four nights before the wedding until around 2 or 3 am each night. Those outta the way we can fastforward to the night before and an evening spet decoratiing the hall until about 12:30 or 1 before we could head home for the night before the wedding.... To say I was tired the day of was an understatment but we still had the booze pick up, Ice pick up and of course make sure everything was at the hall. Myself and one of my goomsmen acomplished this with about 3 minutes to spare before we were to be at another groomsmans house to get ready so the limo could pick us up. Now, a January wedding can be wonderful in Canada(weather depending) and based on the winters we have been having the last couple years the law ov averages and percentages were with us for warm weather. Not so, 2 days before the "day" we plunged into the deepfreeze and found out we would be expecting temps of around minus 20 celcius and wind chills of about minus 32, now for you friends in the good ol USofA that is -4F or -25.6 with the windchill!!! But we are what we call Prarie folk, and we can take it....LOL, it was cold!!!! Needless to say we did tough it out and we did have pre ceremony pictures done OUTSIDE!! off to the wedding, ceremony check, food check, party CHECK!! and of course the wedding night,ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. We were too tired at 3AM by the time we arrived and just fell asleep!LOL!!! That would have to wait for NEGRIL!!!!!! Awake the next day bright and early to meet all the outta town folk for a brunch/lunch and visit pick up the remenants from the hall, then get ready to go. Holy Crap we gotta be at the airport in an hour and we still have to finish the last minute packing!!!!!! Well, we make the airport with time to spare and at 11PM our time we board the plane to paradise. Take of at 11:30 now we just have to sleep so we can catch up from the last 6 days that we have not!!! Goodnight all!
Well, that lasted about and hour or hour and a half before we hit some really really wiked turbulance and We were back awake, me cause I was now excited to arrive and my wife because she doesn't really like flying and the massive lightning storm we were flying over had the plane rockin and rolling pretty good!!!Eventually the sun starts rishing and we see Cuba pass underneath us and eventually Jamaica comes into sight through the windows as we are now on final approach. We arrive a bit ahead of schedule with a wonderfully soft landing and now to clear customs and immigration, grab our bags and find our ride! As always I am rushing to get to the immigration counter quickly ahead of the rush and my wife is urging me to slow down all the while asking what is the hurry!!!!!! I cannot, I am in JAMAICA and gotta get out of this AIRPORT!!!!
We clear immigration quickly as there is only a half a dozen who beat us to the waiting area and we are off to get our bag. That takes no time, next custome....Check... Now where is our ride???
Out we go and are greeted by our wonderful driver Latoya from Joe Cool Taxi, it is about 6:30 so she had to have been up by at least 5 to be there to get us, but she was bright eyed and ready to roll!!! Pack the bags, start our trek for Negril!!!!YAY!!! About 10 minutes into the drive, she asks if we would like a drink maybe a water or a Juice? Any Redstrip I ask? Well of course you know the answer right... I had asked Joe to pick me up a case for our arrival just in case it took us awhile to get setteled, well he didn't dissapoint! Now we are really ready!!!
The trip to Negril was over in a snap and we are in Negril! Now I dig out the info for the Condo to show to Security at Point Village, check we are through, they point us down a road to our condo. Latoya and I unload our bags and agree she will be back in an Hour or so to take us for groceries and to tha cambio to change money, oh yeah and more redstripe, rum and rum cream too!! Unloaded we head for the bulilding, up the staris, open the lockbox for the key, key into door..... Okay, now lets hope its as nice as the pictures....... Open the door ("this is cute"), fling open the patio doors and......................

Here is a couple of other shots taken around the resort. One thing you will notice is there is almost noone else in any of the shots! PV is very quiet but we LOVED it. Your in Negril and it is easy to get anywhere you wanna go!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
So, once we had caught our breath after the first look off the balcony we realized we better get our @sses in gear, Latoya was to be back and pick us up so we cound head out, get cash changed and get food and booze!! Clothes come flying outta the suitcase jammed into the dresser, or hung up! Ready to go, wait we got some time to chill and have a drink!! Thank god Joe Cool picked us up a case of Stripes!!! Pop a couple stripes, out to the deck take in the surroundings and toss back a couple of stripes each, so far a good day! Not even noon and I am 4 Red stripes into my day :). Gotta love a redeye flight!!!!
Our driver arrives back at the Condo to pick us up right on time and we are off, first the Cambio. Latoya suggests hitting the Hi Lo as there is a Cambio there and since its in the store it will be that much quicker, sounds good to me! We arrive and head in, my wife is uncomfortable to say the least, and is not sure what to think about the offers to change our money for us, and of course if we wanted ganga or snow! I laugh to myself and head into the store pulling the new bride along with me. She seems nervouse as the Cambio is really busy today and she doesn't like the feeling she is having, I suggest she grab a cart and her and Latoya head in and start shopping. While I am changing money Latoya stays with Shellie and wanders through the grocery store keeping her company and making her feel much better! The line up flows quickly considering we are running on Jamaican time and in no time I am helping with the grocery shopping. Food... Check, Booze....Check, now lets get outta here!

Gulp $19000+ Makes a uy feel rich, if only for a short time!
Next gotta hit the Digicel store and pick up a cell, this is completed in not much more than about 15 minutes and we are back on the road heading back to PV! We thank Latoya for all the help and pay her for her time and she is off! She has another fare and has to get a move on if she is gonna make it! We haul our food and drinks up to the room and unpack, at this time our previous 5 days with about 5 hours of sleep each night has caught up with us. We needed sleep and we needed it right now! We decide a couple hour nap would not be a bad idea as we still wanted to go out to eat somehwere and also wanted to try and catch sunset! We grab a couple of hours of ZZZZZ's and are up and attem at about 3pm, amazing what 2 hours of sleep can do for someone! While where are we gonna eat? Well, we decide we are going to grab the supplied mountain bikes and go for a ride to find somewhere I have hear of and grab some food and Bevie's!!!! Now I know what some people are thinking, are you crazy for riding BICYCLES!!!!! Actually it wasn't that bad, just have you wits about you and you will be fine! It was a great ride and we were really enjoying it, we finally arrive at Alfreds and decide thats where lunch/supper will be from tonight! Unfortunatly I cannot remember what we ate, but I do remember it was quite tasty and we had planned on eating there again but as you all can probably understand you can't make plans in JA. Now the only real issue with riding a Bike whilke on holidays in Jamaica is, when you have not ridden a bike in a couple of years, Man does you @SS hurt!!! This is further compounded by the fact that at the wedding my drunk ass buddies had picked me up and where carrying me around the dance floor and up for drinks. This is all fine and well, but getting down of a bunch of guys shoulders proved harder, and I got dropped on my @SS!!! Once combined with riding from PV to Alfreds and back I was sore!!!! Well Grab the drinks and head down to the rock pools to catch the sunset with a bunch of other folks who are staying in the Complex. We are officially HOOKED ON NEGRIL!!!!!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
Back to the sunset, the PV complex has a great little spot where there are a couple little natural "rock pools" that people suntan around during the day and every evening a large group gathers there for sunset. Usually there are a around 12-20 people. Now this first night we were the "newbies" and had not yet met anyone, but we were told by the owners to make sure to head down there. We kinda felt like outcasts but in little to know time one of the folks made refrence to Canadian Football team jersey I was wearing and next thing you know we are pulled into the group and making new friends. We are offereed brownies, "not the special ones toinight" and I think a glass of wine from one other couple. We decline and thank them all, the party goes on for about an hour after sunset and most couplel are making dinner plans and plans on where they will be headed. At this time I am exhausted but not yet ready for bed! We grab a six pack outta the freezer and the cooler, throw in some ice and decide we are gonna head out and explore the quiet grounds. Tomorrow is our first whole day in Negril and I wanna have my bearings, we have not yet even found the beach and I know that is on the wifes agenda. We wander around in the dark, find the regular beach, keep wandering and next we find the Au natural beach that borders Hedo. This is where we meet the head of night Security, a young man named Foyan who turns out to be a really nice you guy with a big heart as big as his smile. Funny thing as I am typing this I just recieved a text from Foyan seeing how we are doing! We finish our exploratory walk and retire to the patio to finish off a couple more stripes and hit the hay. Day one has been a long day, it started almost 40 hours ago when we woke up the day after the wedding, we have only had about 3-4 hours of sleep since then and we are beat! Tomorrow will be a new adventure and we cannot wait! Goodnight all!!!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
Tuesday morning comes and we roll outta bed, finally a night with more than 3-4 hours of sleep. I feel human finally and am ready to venture out and see what Negril has to offer today, but first must have morning coffee! Brew a pot, crack the Rum Cream and the day is off to a really great start. Since we had bought groceries we decided to have a good breakfast before we go out walking, we have a big Breakfast (Streaky Bacon, Eggs, Toast, more coffe and even more Rum Cream), on the patio patio of course just taking in the great view. We get dressed, grab a couple of Tig's from the fridge, a couple of water and head out to find our way to Long bay! We wander aimlessly until we are approached by a nice older lady asking if we are lost, we bashfully say we want to walk the beach she says to follow her, away we go. She takes out to the Au Natural beach and points us over to Hedo and says straight through there! Now I am far from a prude and my wife is a little more reserved than I am, but I really must say no showering after a hockey game or after a workout at the gym could prepare me for all the casual nakedness we walked through!!!LOL!!!!My wife was almost hyperventelating and had a deathgrip on my hand, Between people bending over to pick up packages of smoke, or the eyefull's of gravity over time effected flesh she was on the verge of meltdown! Later we find out it was during a particular lifestyles week, so there was even more open affection day or night and more nakedness than usual, either way it provided a good chuckle to everyone who heard the story for quite sometime when I would describe the look on her face, LOL!!! We wander the beach, hitting stands, stores you name it. Grab a dink here then there and so one down the beach. It seems like no time has past and it is already lunchtime, I am hungr and lightheaded from the stripes, I look at my Negril map and realize we have only made it about 2-2.5 Km. We stop at Foote Prints in the sand and grab lunch, it was good but not memorable so I cannot say really what we had. We chill out with a couple more stripes and decide we will head back to the Condo to take in a couple hours of beachtime and maybe do a little snorkling, its about 2pm and we have a few hours to kill before supper at Ivan's. This is the one I had planned as a special dinner for my wife and I and she was super excited. I had played it down a bit cause I stillwanted some WOW factor when we arrive and take our seat, I had requested the"nicest" table they had as it was our Honeymoon and they did not dissapoint! We overlooked the cove just above the hotub, was a great night, great food, great view, and great service! I had the Seafood pasta, and my wife had steak and mashed Potatoe, we also shared a couple of appatizers. Here's some photo's!!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
OMG, does that look good!!! Loving your report! The part regarding the walk through Hedo cracked me up!! We took the stroll through many years ago when out on our adventure of walking the entire beach. OMG, I feel ya!. They were having an annual July 4th parade with a fully dressed band, but followed by undressed group of Hedo guests. It was rather entertaining though....they used body paint on many strategic area's with stars and stripes etc. This particular dude had his stuff painted the traditional red, white and with the added touch of "blue balls" if you get my drift! LOL
To each his own however, if one is comfortable...go for it...but, for me, I'll keep this old stuff covered. Carry on.....I am so enjoying your report!!! Thanks......

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
Sooooooo, where did I leave off? Ivan's!!! We finish up our dinner, drink's and vino and ask for the bill. I must say that it was right around $100 plus tip so we were really impressed, off to the gate to catch our ride home. Now something to note here, they supplied us with one way transportation to the restaurant, now before we hopped in I didn't really look at the plate. However when we jumped out I was able to grab a look and I noticed that the ride they supplied was from a white plated car, we were also urged to use him for our return ride at our cost. We did, and arived without event, he did make a pitstop for me to pic up some stripes, and smokes along the way. While I ran into the store, Mike ur driver pulled out his sales speech on my wife for his Subway Sandwich shop! My wife declined as she doesn't partake but suggested that I do once in awhile, I was soon back in the car and we were on our way to PV! Another unevenful ride and we are back at the condo, now at this time I must say that I was already planning another trip to the Cambio the next morning for additional funds for the One Love Pub crawl, and dinner that next night as well so against my better judgment I asked him for a ride the next day. He accepted and he told me to call him when I was ready to roll. We spent that evening listening to the light wave action and relaxing on the patio for a few hours before calling it a night! Another great day in JA! Tomorrow, The Pub Crawl!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
Well, its slow at work today so I may as well start on Wednesday! We awake around7:30-8 Am, get the coffee brewing and grab the Rum Cream and head for the patio, throw some bread in the toaster and pour my first cup of coffee, add the rum cream and wait for my toast. Its looking like another beautiful day in JA!! Light breakfast done, pot of coffee done and weare planning to head for the beach, We decide to lay low today cause at about 2 PM the One Love Bus is to pick us up for our much anticipated Pub Crawl, before I head for the beach I duck out and call the driver for a trip to the Cambio while my wife gets ready. Now, I know this is no advised and I guess in looking back I may have been lucky but Mike (the guy from the previous night in the white plate car) was a good guy and I had no issues, however the previous Eve, he had mentioned the sale of some cold cuts to my wife and she had declined so after the Cambio and another quick Stripe Stop we are headed back to PV and he tells me, "I got you a lil treat for you in your smoke pack" I check it out and he has deposited 2 massive Double Meat Subs with all the fixins in there for me and he cannot close the package, good thing it was a Canadian smoke package cause they are A LOT bigger and they were kinda protected from being crushed, I think he asked me for $1000J and I was happy to oblige as that was more than enough for my once and a blue moon Sub cravings. He drops me off back at the Condo, I tuck my Subs away for later and head to the beach with a 6 pack, my beach chair, snorkel set and a book. I still have a little over 3 hours to kill before Lenbert will pick us up for the Pub Crawl and figure a swim/snorkel will kill a bit of that. The snorkeling around PV is excellent as BGN is right around the corner and most of the big resorts around the area bring people to the point to snorkel for good reason, the there is lots of fish life and coral all around there, I saw rays, eels, tons of different tropical fish, Barracuda and much much more! we killed the sixerand I read for a bit after the swim then head up for a quick shower, we only have about a half hour before Lenbert is to be there to pick us up and the debauchery is to start!!! I'll finish that up later, gotta get ready for the company Xmas party! Ciao for now!!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
We have now gotten ready for the Pub Crawl to start and have decided that we would walk out to the street in front of Hedo and BGN so that Lenbert would not have to turn around up at the Point Village gate, so we grab a couple of Wata for the walk and our wait. I think it was about a 15 minute wait and the bus was there to pick up up and away we went, it was a little disorganized at the start as we had to double back a couple times to pick up people who had been forgotten but eventually we were all picked up and at the first bar, it was a really busy Pub Crawl and I think there was actually 2 groups of people. Lenbert was taking a busload ahead to the next place, then doubling back and grabbing another busload and so and so forth. Made for quite a fun day as there was a real crowd at each bar at times!! I only have a handful of pictures, the following one being about the best one.
Attachment 19899
One love pub crawl, taken on the roof at Swordfish
The places we hit were as follows
1)Mi Yard
2) Some little place across the road with an all wood interior, real small with a great view that needed a little TLC and cleaning up to make it appreciable but the beer were cold and cheap :)
3)Swordfish- Beautiful rooftop bar, cold beer and a wonderful view!!! We'll be stopping there again in 2013
4)C&D country bar- a nice little spot with no Lie about 10 Square feet of Texas, the beer was very cold, and the smiling faces that were behind the bar were very welcoming. Special brownie available on request in the back!
Now the rest of them I am not sure of the order but I do remember all the names, The lack of being able to remember the order has ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING to do with number of Red Stripes at each of the first 4 places or the monster Sub that I was asked to partake in :).
the rest were
5) Tayon's - was a great little roadside bar, Loud music, cold beer and strong drinks!!
6) Pee Wee's-Another great cliffside place with awesome views of the water and Blue Cave Castle
7)No Limit Bar- Tiny Little raodside bar that was probablt my favorite, just cause of the owers and bartenders were so friendly and welcoming
8) Sir D's Firewater-Best View!!
The whole Pub Crawl was a great time and frankly one of funest ways to explore the west end pub's with a great assortment of people from all over. I still keep in touch with a couple of folks from that afternoon, and will probably partake in another pubcrawl with at least a couple next time we are in Negril in January 2013.
After the Pub Crawl we were SUPER hungry and could not wait to eat, we had kinda decided on Pizza and were thinking we would check out Ciao Jamaica. Now I cannot for the life of me remember what made us decide on that, I think it was a report on TA but anyways that doesn't matter!! We arrived back at PV at about 8-8:30 and called Ciao, we decided on the Jerk Chicken XL size pizza made the order and the wait was on. In retrospect it would have been a better idea to have just had Lenbert drop us off there on the way back to the condo and either eat there or catch a cab back with our pizza, as it was more than a wait! The 12-14 beer I had during the pub crawl and the numerous drinks my wife had, had made the wait excruciating, that and it was probably the longest I had ever waited for a pizza had me chomping at the bit!!!! It finally arrived just before I started chewing on a falled palm branch just to stop the hunger pangs, and MAN was it worth the wait!!!! I am sorry to say I do not have a picture to post of that pizza caus ehalf of it was gone as soon as the box was opened, but it was AWESOME!!!!!!! If you want a great pie, check it out it is well worth it. Just don't be hungry when you order :)! My wife was soon sound asleep, partly cause of the huge pizza meal and party cause of the Pub Crawl Rum and Ting. I had the rest of the evening to myself!!!! Well, time to dig out one of my MASSIVE DOUBLE MEAT subs from the driver earlier today!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm good! I spent the next hour or so enjoying the sub and a couple more Stripes before retiring for the night Sweet Dreams!!!
Tomorrow, second walk through Hedo, Lunch at Our Pastime, Beachwalk, Supper at Kuyaba
Friday, Wifes wedding gift two tickets to The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival (Celine Dion her FAVORITE)
Saturday-Beach, Beach walk, Snorkel, Seastar Buffet and show
Sunday- Inter airlink flight to Montego Bay to begin Week Two at Breezes Runaway Bay

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
Thursday Jan, 26th arrived fairly early considering that the Rum and Ting, and Red Stripes had flowed so freely and plentiful the previous night, and the little man in my head with the really big SLEDGHAMMER was actually easily looked after by a couple extra strength Advil and a couple ice cold Wata's! Thank god I had remembered to throw a few in the fridge the night before, cause man did that Jerk Pizza Dry out my mouth (had nothing to do with the rum and Red Stripe). After the initial self administered first aid, IO set out on making the regular morning fare a big pot of coffee and the jug of Rum Cream!!! Bacon, Eggs, and toast to follow but have to have the morning coffee first, right? Mental note to self, must take picture of breakfast setup cause the early light of Negril and the beautiful view of Caribbean sea with booby cay off to the side really is something to marvel at, especially when shared with a great cup of Blue Mountain and Rum Cream! We easily kill the pot of coffee and scarf down a hearty breakfast and pack up a backpack with some staples for today's beach-walk! couple Bottles of Ting, couple of water, a couple ice cold Red stripes for the drink coozies and a couple in the back pack in reserve, flip flops, Cash, and we are off! Now the last couple days my wife kept re living the inital shock she had felt in walking through Hedo the first time and had vowed that she would be fine this time and to her credit she was much better, I actually had feeling in my hand by the time we had made it through, something I cannot say the first time!! ;). That morning was fairly uneventful and we really didn't make it that far, we spent about an hour wandering through boardwalk village looking at all the little shops, checking things out buying a few nick-nacs here and there but really just blowing the morning window shopping, and then hitting a couple little stalls on the beach! Lunch was needed early this day as we seemed really kinda shaky and lost of energy again I insist it musta been something we ate :). We stopped at Our Pastime and grabbed a huge lunch that finally made us feel a bit better!!
Attachment 19936Attachment 19937
After this we walked a few miles down the beach, stopping here and there a grabbing a beer or a water, not really accomplishing very much of anything all we did was take in the sights and sounds of Negril and went with the flow! I really don't even have much for pictures from this afternoon, but I remember it being a nice relaxing chill day walking the beach!

I am not even 100% sure where we called it quits as my memory is a little hazy, again probably cause of the pizza last night, right?????LOL! After the walk we wandered out to the road, caught a cab and headed back to PV to grab an hour or so of RandR before we grabbed the sunset at the rock-pools then headed to Kuyaba for a nice dinner!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
On this evening my Hunnie and I decided we should bring down a little something to share with the group, we settled on mixing up a couple big jugs of pre-mixed Good Ol Canadian Caesars!!!! Now for those of you American friends who have not had the opportunity to partake in this great Canadian CLASSIC cocktail it's kinda like a Bloody Mary but with a Tomato/Clam cocktail in place of the regular Tomato juice a must is to add a extra Worcestershire Sauce to make it really really tangy though. These were a hit to the fellow Canadian's and our new American friends that we had met at PV, as well the Sunset was gorgeous as always!!! Below I have a few pictures from the patio and then down by the rock pools!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
After Sunset we headed to Kuyaba for dinner, Not the outright beautiful views you get at Ivan's but a really unique open air dining experience and if you arrive before sunset as we hadn't, you will still be treated to a nice sunset, just as anywhere else along Long Bay! The food was OUTSTANDING and the restaurant had great ambiance, so nice that we have decided to stay there for 2 nights on our upcoming reach, an anniversary trip of sorts in the honeymoon suite to see what its like!If any of you have stayed in this suite please let me know what you thought!! There really was not too much else to say about this evening as we were planning on laying low and trying to get a really good night sleep, we knew tomorrow would be a really long day! We were headed to the Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival and didn't know what to expect. More on that later though! For dinner I had the Grilled Lobster and Shellie had Lobster Therm adore and both dishes were off the charts awesome!!!

After the meal we headed home to relax on the patio and just take in the sounds of the water, the tree frogs and enjoy. I think we were in bed by about 11-12 o'clock that night and it still wasn't enough time to sleep!!! We had really not been going that hard, but in attempt to take in as much as possible I think we were both almost in a state of sensory overload as we tried to take everything in and there is so much to do and see and do. The funny thing after we had finished a week in Negril, I was sad cause there was sooooooooo much more that I had wanted to see that I thought I had missed, is that always how you feel when leaving Negril???

Great report, beautiful pictures (the sunset shots are fantastic), the food looks to die for and yes that is always how you feel when you leave Jamaica! It's been 7 years since we have been on the rock and I can't wait to be back. These trip reports sure do help though :)

Thanks for reading T&A, I have always wanted to stay after previous trips to Jamaica, But after leaving Negril, and going to spend a week in Runaway bay this last trip I kept finding myself thinking about Negril and missing it!!!!

Re: Trip Report January 2012 Honeymoon in Heaven!
So, I guess I better get back at this! I have 2.5 more days to go and if I don't get started I am afraid it will grind to a permanent halt so here it goes!
Friday morning we wake up and start the morning right again, RUM cream and Coffee!!! And some toast and peanut butter, we elect for a light breakfast cause we figure we will grab a quick bite at the Bar at Boardwalk Village before we leave for the concert. We had walked past it a couple times and ridden bikes past a couple times and thought it would be worthwhile checking out. If for no other reason than it was close and if the food is decent a good place to grab some grub on the run we would file it away in memory for the future! We rode our bikes over to BV and locked up, wandered through all the little shops for an hour or so, then grabbed a Red Strip and ordered up some appetizers. The food arrived fairly quickly and was decent enough to eat, although it was on the pricier side of things for what you got. The beer was ICE cold and the deck of the bar has a really nice view of long bay and would be a great spot to take in a sunset!! I don't have any pictures of it on this computer so I will add them later for all you picture loving folk :).
After our short break we headed back to PV to hit the beach for a few hours, and a swim, our ride was to pick us up at 1:30 or so and we had some time to burn!! My wife and I quickly changed and headed for the beach, Beers, Loungers, I phone and X-mini speaker, snorkel set's, beach towels, books all accounted for NOW off to the beach! Now I am not one to sit around so I get fidgety fairly quickly and decide to head out for a swim and a snorkel for a half hour or 45 minutes. It was excellent!! I get back to the beach after my swim and am toweling off and about to grab a seat when my wife says, Hey, did you hear that? Well I musta been deaf or was too involved in the music cause i didn't hear a thing!!! I said what you talking about? She replies, did you hear someone holler for help??? No, I exclaim you must be hearing things!!! 5-10 Seconds later, there it is again!!!! HEEEELLLLPPPP!!! Oh Sh!T I say and take off running in the direction of the noise. As I arrive at the rock pool I realize there is Two fella's dragging another fella towards shore and they are struggling, I take a quick second to survey the situation to make sure I am not jumping onto a coral head and jump in and start swimming out to them. They are still about 50-70 yards of shore and one of them is having trouble keeping his own head above water much less the fella in distress! I pull him away and send him to shore on his own and proceed to help get the 3rd man to shore, he is a dead weight and appears to be unconscious. After about 50 feet I can touch bottom so it makes it easier to pull him in, Thank goodness!!! Now the only worry is to make sure that I don't step on a sea urchin!!! I already have a massive pain in my right heel and am not really sure why, the adrenaline rush is coming to an end now that we have the guy close enough to shore that we are not struggling nearly as much! A crowd has gathered around and someone goes off to call 119, as we get him back to shore we are trying to figure out a way to get a 6 foot plus, 200 Lb plus man outta the water. He is starting to come around and is fighting us a little cause he is scared, he doesn't know what has happened to him and is having major difficulties speaking and he is bleeding badly from the mouth! We get him calmed down, and decide we are going to use a chaise lounge to haul him out. This works good and we get him out of the sea with minimal struggles, I took off to our condo to grab a rag and some water, as well as try and find some aspirin in case it was a stroke (turns out there is a previous stroke he had recovered from a few years earlier). We find an aspirin, and give him a little water to wash it down and clean him up a bit. In no time the ambulance arrives and takes him away, at the conclusion of the excitement I realize I have a 6-10 Sea Urchin quills broke off in the heel of my right foot and its killing me! Off to the condo I go to find whatever I can to get them out!! I find a really bad pair of tweezers, a pair of nail clippers and a small pair of scissors. As well a first aid kit that has been picked over but has a few supplies, after about 1.5 hours painfully digging at my heel I get all but 2 out and find some polysporin in our travel kit to put on it and some gauze to put on the heel. I pillage what is left of the first aid kit to make a crude bandage.
About this time we realize we should get our @sses in gear and get ready, we are to be picked up in about 30 minutes!!! Latoya from Joe Cool Taxi picks us up right on time and we are OFF, 2 quick stops to make on the way. We grab a couple of patties and a couple drinks at the gas station, and hit a cambio in Mobay to change some money and we are on the road to the Cricket stadium in Trelawny. After about a 2 hour road trip we arrive and the place is ALREADY a MADHOUSE!!!! I cannot remember all the performers that night but the ones I can remember were as follows. Julie Black, Tami and Tenisha Chynn, Richie Stephens and Gentleman, Nicole Henry, and of course Celine Dion. All the performers were excellent and it was a really cool experience. I will give a little more of a rundown later when time permits but for now here are a couple pictures from around the venue and the performers. I will post some more when I get on my laptop that has them all on it!! Hope you enjoy!!! I will add, I am NOT a Celine Dion fan, but Man does that girl have a voice, and all the Jamaicans LOVED her at times it was so loud with hollers, screams and people shouting out the words that you couldn't hear her!!!!

However the whole time at the concert we kept wondering if our new friend we had met at the sunset a few night earlier was okay, and what it was that caused him to become distressed earlier today in the sea!
